Roman’s hand rested firmly on my waist as he steered me through the polished glass doors of the restaurant. His touch was casual on the surface, but I knew better—Roman never did anything casually. Even here, in a place of white tablecloths and clinking wine glasses, he carried himself like a man staking his claim.

I, on the other hand, was a mess. My free hand kept fussing with my hair, then my skirt, then checking the buttons of my blouse. Every polished surface we passed caught me in it like a mirror, further enhancing my fear that people would know what went down in his office.

“Stop fussing, Sav.” Roman’s voice was low, threaded with amusement as he leaned down to my ear. “You look perfect.”

“You always say that.”

“Because it’s always true.”

I rolled my eyes, but the heat blooming in my cheeks betrayed me. The restaurant manager approached us, recognition lighting his face. “Good afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Blackwood.” He extended his hand, all deference and polished charm.

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Alexander

Chapter 222: Alexander ReeseA stray. That’s what he’d called her.A fucking stray. As if Serena Matthews had been a dog wandering the street or a cat seeking affection—like she wasn’t a living, breathing human being whose life he’d sliced out of existence without a flicker of hesitation. A girl who probably laughed, who dreamed, who deserved to see tomorrow. He’d tossed her aside like she was disposable. And that word. That damn word. It stuck inside my skull like a parasite.Roman hadn’t moved since I said it. He sat perfectly still, elbows on his knees, staring at the floor as if it might confess something to him. His jaw flexed once. Twice. Then nothing. Silence so loud I could hear his thoughts gnashing against each other. The clock on the wall ticked. Ticked again. Ticked louder. Then, finally—“We’re going to New Hope tomorrow, Reese.”His voice was low. Controlled. Too controlled. The kind of calm that meant violence was two breaths away.“We’re going to find out what Jace k

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    The Wrong Trunk

Chapter 221: The Wrong TrunkReeseRoman rarely looks afraid. He’s the one who laughs at danger, who smirks in the face of chaos, who doesn’t flinch when The General raises hell. But right now, the way he’s staring at me like he’s waiting to hear the verdict that might shatter the floor beneath him… yeah. He’s scared. But not of our father. He's scared because he suspects I murdered Serena. Or had something to do with her death. “Reese,” he says, voice low, tight. “What do you mean by that?”I swallow, my throat already burning. “I knew her,” I whisper. “I met Serena Matthews. But I didn’t know what she was. Not until she died.”Roman leaned forward, impatient. “Where? How? When did you—just talk, dammit!”“I am talking!” I snap, louder than I intended. “I’m saying something, aren’t I?!”“Well get on with it then!”“For fuck’s sake!” I drag both hands through my hair, pacing. “You’re driving me fucking nuts, Roman!”He shuts up, but his eyes don’t leave me. Paula sits still—too still

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    The Serena Case

Chapter 220: The Serena Case Reese“The Serena Case.” Those three words hit me like a punch to the ribs—sharp, unexpected, meant to hurt. Even after Roman stopped talking, they echoed in my head, circling, taunting, refusing to let me breathe.I tried to keep my face neutral, casual even, because that’s what I do when shit gets bad. I joke. I pretend. I deny. But inside, my chest tightened until the pressure clawed up my throat. Most people go through life thinking they’ve got problems — bills, breakups, heartache, loneliness. Me? My entire existence is one giant problem sealed with the Blackwood name. I didn’t ask to be the son of General Blackwood. Didn’t audition. Didn’t sign up. Yet here I was, stuck with it like a brand I could never scrub off.But Serena? If the Serena he meant was the Serena I knew… then I was screwed. Utterly, hopelessly, catastrophically screwed.“Reese.” Roman’s voice cut through my spiraling thoughts. “Did you hear what I just said?”I blinked. Then force

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Jace’s Rat

Chapter 219: Jace’s Rat ReeseI always thought Roman was the more sensible one between the two of us. Smart. Level-headed. Capable of functioning under pressure. But standing here and facing this van with two unfamiliar women sitting inside it like hostages, I was starting to rethink every compliment I’d ever given him. “Please,” I said, dragging a hand through my hair, “don’t tell me you’ve added kidnapping to your résumé. Because otherwise, how the hell do you explain this? Who are they, and what are they doing here?”Roman didn’t even care. He just pointed.“That’s Chloe,” he said flatly, nodding at the blonde one who looked like she had barbed wire for blood. She glared at him like she was two seconds from stabbing him to death with a decorative fork. “Sav’s sister.”Then he pointed to the other girl—the one with the pixie haircut and a don’t-mess-with-me jawline.“And that,” he continued, “is Paula. Jace’s rat.”“Who the hell is Jace?” I asked, confused. Paula’s eyebrow shot u

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Promise Me

Chapter 218: Promise MeRomanSavannah had been pouting since the plane touched down—an actual, committed pout, lips pushed forward, cheeks puffed, the kind of expression that would’ve been cute if it wasn’t accompanied by complete silence. My girl could weaponize quietness better than any argument. And she’d done it for the entire flight, the entire walk through the airport, and now into the car.Her arms were folded tightly across her chest as she stared out the window like the scenery had personally offended her. The sound of the car filled the space between us, but even that felt too loud next to the tension vibrating off her.I nudged her gently. “Hey,” I murmured, keeping my voice low. “It’s not that serious, Sav. The house is always going to be there. We’ll pick up right where we left off.”Her sigh fogged the window. “It’s not about the house, Roman.”Of course it wasn’t. If it were, she wouldn’t be sitting there like she was seconds away from combusting.I glanced at the dri

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Favorite Sibling?

Chapter 217: Favorite Sibling?RomanSavannah is lying flat on her stomach beside me, her legs kicked up behind her and crossed at the ankles. The black bikini she’s wearing is completely illegal—not because it’s revealing, but because I can’t look anywhere else when she’s in it. Her hair is tied in a messy bun, a few strands brushing her shoulders as the breeze picks them up.Her phone is balanced on her palms like she’s holding some sacred relic.“Favourite word?” she asks out of nowhere.I don’t think. I don’t need to. The answer is already carved into my bones. “Savannah.”She looks at me over her shoulder, lips twitching into a slow, satisfied smile. “That was smooth, Roman. Very smooth.”I shrug like it wasn’t intentional. “I’m being sincere, my love.”“Favourite color?” She asks again. Again. I don't think. “Yellow.” She rolls her eyes, but she can’t hide the smile. “Okay, Romeo. Next question.”After the morning we’d had—the kind that leaves your muscles sore and your heartb
