Chapter 227: This Ends Today

Savannah

“Hi, Mom.”

The word mom still felt fragile in my mouth. Like glass. Like something that could shatter if I said it too loudly. I guess that's what years of trauma does to a person.

She pulled me into a hug immediately, arms thin and trembling around my shoulders. I had to fight the instinct to brace her, afraid that if I leaned too hard, she might break in my arms. She was smaller than the last time I’d seen her. Frailer. I could literally feel her bones beneath the fabric of her sweater, her body light in a way that made something twist painfully in my chest.

She pulled back just enough to look at me properly.

“You look beautiful, sweetie.” Her hands cupped my face, thumbs brushing my cheeks. Her eyes filled instantly. “You’re practically glowing.”

I smiled, though my throat burned. I glanced around the driveway instinctively—just to be sure. Just us. Me, Mom, and Roman standing a step behind me, solid and steady like an anchor. The house loom

It's so frustrating when a novel becomes spelbounding and then suddenly it's being serialized.

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Don’t Come Down

Chapter 234: Don't Come DownSavannah “You're pregnant?” “Are you pregnant?” The words collided in the air, spoken at the exact same moment by two different men, carrying two very different weights.Jace’s voice cracked, emotional and disbelieving.Julius’s was sharp, almost triumphant—like he’d just found another weapon to use against me.Every eye in the room turned toward me.The gun was still pointed. Blood was still pooling on the floor. Paula was still lying there, gasping weakly now, her breaths shallow and uneven. And yet somehow, this—this—was the moment everything hinged on.Chloe’s lips curved into a slow, poisonous smile. “What? You didn't tell uncle Jace that he's going to be a grand daddy soon?” I met her gaze and felt something dark coil in my chest. Rage. Fear. Defiance. I refused to give her the satisfaction of watching me break. “Yes,” I said, my voice steadier than I felt. “I’m pregnant.”The silence that followed was heavy, crushing. Like the house itself was

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Who Was Shot?

Chapter 233: Who Was Shot?Savannah The first thing I thought when I heard the gunshot wasn’t I’m going to die. It wasn’t we’re all going to die.It was—who was shot? The sound cracked through the room like glass shattering inside my skull. Loud. Violent. Final. That for a split second, the world froze, suspended between before and after, and my body reacted before my mind could catch up.My eyes went straight to Roman.I scanned his immaculate white shirt in a blind panic, searching for red. My heart slammed against my ribs as my gaze dragged over his chest, his stomach, his side—anywhere a bullet might have torn through him.Nothing. No blood. No spreading stain.I sucked in a sharp breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding, relief crashing over me so hard it made my knees weak. But that relief barely had time to settle before something else sliced through the air.A sound. A sharp, broken inhale. It didn’t come from Roman. It came from Paula. For a second, my brain refused to proc

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Stand Back

Chapter 232: Stand Back Savannah There was a version of my life that existed before Roman.Sometimes, it felt like it belonged to someone else entirely. A girl who lived a life that was too easy. Who believed that life was permanent. Who thought love was soft and predictable and didn’t come with bloodstains you couldn’t scrub out no matter how hard you tried. Before Roman, my world was simple. Not perfect—but safe. I had never watched someone die. I had never smelled gunpowder or heard the deafening crack of a gunshot splitting the air. I didn’t know how heavy a weapon felt in your hands, how wrong it was to see one pointed at a human being and realize it only took a twitch of a finger to end a life. That sort of violence, back then, had been abstract. Something that happened to other people. Something on the news. Something distant. And then there was my life after Roman. After I fell in love with a man who seemed to carry death like a shadow behind him.Chaos followed us everywher

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    Crime And Punishment

Chapter 231: Crime And Punishment Savannah If someone had told me a few months ago that this same living room—the one that once smelled like grilled meat, laughter, and cheap beer—would turn into a battlefield, I would have laughed in their face.Back then, this house had hosted a barbecue for Chloe and Dean. Music had played. Uncle Jace and Alyssa had danced. Drinks had flowed. People had smiled like we were a normal, functional family. Now?Now it smelled like blood, rage, and something rotten that had been festering for years.“Jace, take that girl and get out of my house!”Julius’s voice cracked through the room like a gunshot. His finger was extended, shaking as it pointed directly at Paula. His face was red—veins bulging, mouth bloodied from the punches he’d taken earlier, eyes blazing with the kind of fury that felt unhinged.“I do not want to see her, nor you, anywhere near my property ever again!”“She’s not going anywhere.” Jace’s voice was calm. Too calm. The kind of calm

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    This Is Delicious

Chapter 230: This Is Delicious Savannah My scalp still burned.Every time I lifted my hand, I could feel it—the phantom pull, the sharp sting where Julius’s fingers had tangled in my hair and yanked like I was nothing more than something to be dragged. But even that pain faded into the background, drowned out by the one truth echoing in my head.Jace.My biological father. The man standing just a few feet away from me, shoulders squared, eyes calm in a room that felt like it was collapsing in on itself.“Julius,” Jace said quietly, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade through silk. “Do you remember what I told you the night you confronted me about Flora’s pregnancy?”Julius’s jaw tightened. “And why would that matter now?” he snapped. “What relevance does ancient history have to this present mess?”“You know exactly what relevance it has,” Jace replied evenly. “My exact words were: If you ever hurt my child, I will kill you.”The room seemed to tilt.A chill raced down

  • From Best Friend To Fiancé    A Filthy Mistake

Chapter 229: A Filthy MistakeRoman “It’s a good thing we’re skipping introductions,” I said calmly, though every muscle in my body was locked tight. “You already know Paula. And that means you know exactly why she’s here. You know why we’re here.”Julius stood near the center of the living room like a man who still believed he owned the ground beneath his feet. His posture was stiff, his expression carefully blank. He’d perfected that look over decades—feigned confusion layered over arrogance.“I don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about,” he said lightly. Too lightly. “Why are you all in my house?”I took a slow step forward.“You’ve been my father’s loyal dog for years,” I said. “You cleaned up his messes. Covered his crimes. Bent yourself into whatever shape he demanded. And in doing his bidding, Julius, you destroyed lives. You shattered families. You left scars that don’t fade. Scars people carry into the grave.”His eyes flicked around the room. He was counting.
