Alpha Rowland's POV

The fire in the hearth had burned very low now, and Caleb sat across from me like a stone statue, patiently waiting for me to unleash my burden as always. He was never one to force words from me, but his silence seemed heavier than questions.

I cleared my throat and adjusted myself to a comfortable position. “Okay, Caleb. Let me tell you exactly what has been happening in this pack.”

“I’m listening,” He said calmly.

I nodded, then began. “It started with Cael going on a hunting trip weeks ago, and he took Mira along with him.”

Caleb gave a knowing smile. “Of course he did.”

Despite myself, I almost smiled too. “Yes, of course he did. That boy has never listened to me a day in his life.” My voice hardened. “But what they ran into wasn’t just prey… It was a group of rogues.”

Caleb straightened in his chair. “Rogues? How come?”

“It was surprising,” I replied quietly.

He swore under his breath, shaking his head. “That close to our borders?”

I nodded grimly. “Too close

  • From Omega's Daughter To Alpha's Daughter   Laying it Bare 85

Alpha Rowland’s POVI looked at Caleb, studying his face in the dim light to make sure it wasn't the tiredness speaking. “Are you saying that you've thought about it too? That you've also considered them?”Caleb grinned sheepishly. “How could I have thought about them so quickly when you've only just told me everything this evening. But let me tell you why I think your daughter might be on to something.”“I'm all ears,” I said, giving him my complete attention.Caleb scratched his head slowly, as if arranging whatever he wanted to say carefully in his head to avoid mixing it up. “During my trip, I heard something that seems to be loosely related to what Mira has suggested. At first, I dismissed it as nothing but idle gossip, meaningless words from merchants who had drunk too much wine. But hearing you now… It’s hard to ignore.”Caleb had my complete attention, and I urged him on. “Go on, tell me everything.”“The whispers are that Pine Shadows has been producing and selling a lot of m

  • From Omega's Daughter To Alpha's Daughter   Thinking 84

Alpha Rowland’s POVCuriosity danced in Caleb's eyes as he listened with rapt attention, looking as if he was getting ready to pry the words out of me if I delayed any longer. I exhaled calmly, preparing myself for the part of the story that still troubled me each time I thought about it.“We had planned to interrogate the rogues after the birthday,” I began. “I had sent for Mira and Cael to prepare them for it, and our plan was to do anything necessary to learn how they had come into possession of the Thallium, and most importantly… who was supplying them.”Caleb nodded thoughtfully, with his eyes alive with intensity. “Exactly what I would have done, Rowland. You had them in your grasp. So what went wrong?”I let out a bitter laugh, shaking my head at the question. “When I gave the order for them to be brought in, the guard who fetched them came back looking as if he had seen a ghost, trembling, and totally unable to speak a word. He could only signal for us to follow him.”“Rowla

  • From Omega's Daughter To Alpha's Daughter   Plotting Siblings 82

Cael's POVI should’ve known from the way her shoulders tightened that this wasn’t going to be something light. Mira had that look… the one where her mind was made up before she had even opened her mouth, and nothing short of a war would change it.She looked into my eyes, and I saw hers as clear as moonlight, steady and firm even though her pulse was thrumming faintly in her throat.“Cael,” she finally began. “I think it’s really important… for us to go to Pine Shadows.”There it was. The words landed like a pebble that had been dropped into deep water, sending ripples spreading through my chest. Pine Shadows… The name was seldom mentioned in our pack, but she spoke about it like it was salvation.“Are you being serious?” I asked carefully. She was firm in her reply. “Dead serious.”I laughed at the thought, a funny sort of sound that startled even me. “You want us to just stroll into the den of the wolves who have hated us for decades, even banished you under a false accusation, an

  • From Omega's Daughter To Alpha's Daughter   Midnight walk 81

Cael's POVMira and I took a stroll in the cool night air, something we did often as we both enjoyed the outdoors more than we liked to admit. I walked slowly, adjusting my pace to fall in line with Mira’s. She didn’t complain though… she never did. Mira had that stubborn streak in her that reminded me too much of Father. We walked in silence for a while, enjoying the sound of nocturnal creatures and the coolness of the wind all around us. The moon shone so brightly, and for a moment I was tempted to howl at it. The stroll felt comfortable and easy, with the kind of silence only siblings could share without effort. But Mira broke it, as I knew she eventually would. She always noticed too much, always picking out things that others were likely to overlook.“Who was he?” she asked suddenly in her overly curious voice.I gave her a sideways glance. The moonlight made her eyes sparkle like emeralds, and the furrow in her brow told me that she had been holding in this question for a while

  • From Omega's Daughter To Alpha's Daughter   Revealing the Burdens 80

Alpha Rowland's POVAt the mention of those words, Caleb became even more serious and looked expectantly at me, waiting for me to spill the burden that was troubling me. “You sound as if there are ghosts roaming around the streets, Rowland, what exactly is happening?”I chuckled after seeing his reaction, but the smile faded off again. “Maybe there are indeed ghosts roaming our lands, Caleb. Do you remember Samantha?”Caleb looked confused for a while, then slowly his memory started recollecting events from a long time ago. He opened his mouth to say something, then closed it back again when the words wouldn't come. Samantha… my secret mate, the Omega that Selene had forced to flee after discovering our affair. It had been a forgotten occurrence, supposedly hidden away by time.“You cannot mean…” Caleb mumbled in disbelief. “Rowland, tell me you’re not talking about your ex mistress…”“I am,” I interrupted in a firm tone. “A girl named Mira appeared here a few weeks ago, claiming to b
