Chapter 23

Josephine hurriedly walked out of the company building as though her life depended on it. She had initially thought of having a conversation with Lucas on the way to control the ongoing situation, but after receiving the latest information, nothing seemed more important.

"Good day, ma'am. How may I help you?" the receptionist asked as Josephine stood in front of the counter.

Presently, Josephine was at the Royal Suite Restaurant, one of the most prominent restaurants in the city. It was known not only for hosting elite customers but also for its high level of security. The restaurant provided a secured place to talk freely, with soundproof rooms and tight security measures ensuring privacy.

"Ah, yes. A reservation under the name John," Josephine said, managing to control her racing heart.

"Okay, ma'am. Give me a second," the receptionist said, offering Josephine a sweet smile as she quickly tapped on the keyboard in front of her.

"Here we go, ma'am. A

Chapter 34Hailey stood at the door, lost in thought, trying to figure out what could have made him that uneasy.“Hey,” a calm, warm voice said behind her, prompting Hailey to blink her eyes back to the present.“Uhmm, Hailey?” the voice spoke again, this time with more depth carrying emotion, maybe worry or concern.Hailey nodded. “Oh… good day, Miss Jenny.”“Are you okay? You’ve been standing here for quite some time.”Another cough was heard from Alex’s room.“Yes, just that I’m worried about him. His fever’s worse, and he’s being so difficult,” Hailey ranted, waving the documents in her hand in the air.“Oh, I’m sorry,” she mumbled, realizing her actions.Jenny chuckled softly. “Oh, no problem. He’s always been difficult.”Biting her lip, Jenny exhaled, took a deep gulp of air, and mumbled, “I’m going to talk to him… wish me luck,” before knocking on the door.Hailey nodded, giving way for her. Poor Miss Jenny. Although Alex brought her home, he rarely paid attention to her. In fa

  • From Ruin to Revenge     Storm of the past

Chapter 33The chandelier shone brightly in the breakfast room. Everyone was seated around the round table. The staff, all dressed neatly in black and white, carried in the breakfast trays. The aroma that filled the air was so delightful that it made one’s taste buds itch for a bite even before the eyes could feast on the meal.Selena closed her eyes for a moment. 'This feels magical.' She thought, being seated with her loved ones again. The ambiance, the gold light shining from the chandelier above everything looked perfect. Her eyes drifted around the table: Violet sat at the edge, Selena beside her, Mabel opposite her, and Riele, Sean’s assistant sat beside Mabel. Sean himself was at the other end of the table, directly opposite Violet. For what seemed like an eternity to Selena finally ended when a staff placed her breakfast in front of her, while the others continued serving the rest of the family. The smell of perfectly fried eggs, crispy bacon, sausages, freshly baked bread,

  • From Ruin to Revenge    Happiness

Chapter 32“Rise and shine!” Violet’s happiness filled the room with every word that came out of her mouth as she drew open the curtains. The rays of sunlight swept across the room as if announcing morning’s arrival.“Mom, wake up! We have a lot to do today.”Selena slowly opened her eyes. Her gaze wandered around the room, the glittering chandelier, the cream-colored curtains, and the tall, huge mirror embedded with gemstones that loudly screamed luxury from the corner. And to crown it all, the king-sized bed felt like heaven compared to the one she had been used to.She couldn’t remember the last time she had a proper, peaceful sleep. For five years, she hadn’t been able to close her eyes without the fear of nightmares. But last night… last night was different. She slept like a baby as though she had no problems in the world.Pushing herself into a sitting position, her eyes softened as they rested on the one person she couldn’t imagine living without.“Good morning, Mom,” Violet gr

Chapter 31“Leave me alone,” Josephine whispered, yanking off Liam’s hands that rested on her shoulder. For a moment, there was absolute silence, other than the ticking sound of the clock, which seemed louder than usual, probably mocking their fate.Liam stood still, his hands by his sides as tears clouded his vision.“I would give anything to reverse this…” he muttered.“Not now, Liam,” Josephine mumbled, walking toward the tall mirror that stood by the side of the room.“I’m okay,” she continued, her voice neutral, as though she hadn’t just had a mental breakdown.“Just let me be alone for a while,” she added, staring at her reflection.Liam, who was about to say something, instantly shut his mouth. He remained still behind her, his emotions scattered, but one thought echoed clearly in his mind, all of this was happening because of him.Taking a step back, he inhaled deeply in a failed attempt to steady himself before walking out of the room, granting his mother the privacy she dema

Chapter 30“Mom! Mom!” Liam called out the moment he entered the mansion.“She’s in her room,” John said. He had been in the living room, lost in thought, when Liam’s voice snapped him back to reality.Without sparing him a glance, Liam moved toward the stairs. He needed to speak to his mother not only about the situation with his father but also about the contents of the brown envelope he was holding. His brows furrowed at the thought.Everything’s going down the drain, he mumbled under his breath.Liam took a deep breath in an attempt to compose himself. He stood before the door that separated him from his mother.Who knows what she’s going through… No, I have to tell her everything without showing fear, he told himself.“Come in,” came Josephine’s voice.“I knew you would come. How have you been?” she asked.Liam didn’t respond immediately. He took a moment to observe her. All his life, he had known his mother to be an organized woman, graceful, poised, and in control. But the wo

Chapter 29“Give that back!” Josephine, who had just recovered from her shock, said, stretching out her hand in an attempt to snatch the photo from Lucas.“Your reaction shows me all I need to know,” Lucas said as he folded the paper and slipped it into his pocket. “What connection do you and Alfred have?”“There is no connection,” Josephine answered instantly, sighing. She took a deep breath in an effort to compose herself.“You know what, Lucas? You can very well keep the photo and your questions to yourself. I have no interest in keeping you engaged. Since you will be locked up all your life, you do need something to ponder, or you might lose your mind.”Scoffing, Lucas couldn’t help but clench his fist. “Now, my properties…”“Didn’t you get the memo? You will never get them again. Not ever.”“You arrogant bastard,” Josephine sneered.“I’m glad Selena finally got her justice and Violet her revenge on you, Lucas…” Josephine said.“Same here,” Lucas said, interrupting Josephine as h
