Chapter 3

Author: Fierce Sleeping Dog
My composure took everyone completely by surprise.

“Settle accounts? How are you going to do that? Can you even pay?” shouted one of Jenson’s friends. “Don’t think playing tough will let you wiggle out of this! If you can’t get the money today, we’ll call the cops and report you for fraud!”

“Exactly! A gold digger living off a man, and she has the nerve to talk back!”

Laughter and taunts swirled around me, but I paid them no mind. I reached into my pocket, took out my phone, and made a call. “Mrs. Zane, you may come in.”

No sooner had I spoken than the doors of the banquet hall swung open. A poised, professional middle-aged woman stepped inside.

Mrs. Zane walked straight to my side and placed a file on the table, sliding it in front of Jenson.

“Mr. Middleton, regarding the financial dispute between you and my client, we've prepared a detailed account for your review.”

Jenson froze for a moment as he stared at the document, seemingly too stunned to even reach for it.

“First, the car, valued at 230,000 dollars.” Mrs. Zane’s assistant immediately turned on a laptop and projected a bank transfer record onto the large screen.

“The payment for the car did come from your account, Mr. Middleton. However, the day before the purchase, an amount of 250,000 dollars was transferred from Ms. Hale’s personal account to your account… Mr. Middleton, how do you explain this?”

Jenson’s face was drained of all color.

“T-That… That was a voluntary gift from her!” Jenson stammered, trying to defend himself.

“Whether it was a gift will be decided in court.” Mrs. Zane remained unmoved and went on, “Next, regarding the club spending you mentioned, we've contacted the bank and obtained surveillance footage from Sunshine Club.”

A video appeared on the big screen.

A woman resembling me was using the very card I had never touched, making repeated transactions.

“Our investigation shows that this card is indeed the same one given out by Mr. Middleton. Someone told this woman it was an extra card belonging to a wealthy client, with unlimited spending. All she had to do was sign the name ‘Estelle Hale.’”

Mrs. Zane paused for a moment and looked at Jenson with sharp, unwavering eyes. “Mr. Middleton, you forged signatures, misused another person’s bank card, and used it as false evidence to maliciously defame my client. Do you need me to remind you of the crimes these acts constitute?”

Jenson trembled all over. He wavered on his feet and staggered backward, but he was caught by one of his friends.

The hall fell silent. Everyone was frozen, stunned by this shocking reversal.

“That’s not possible… I didn’t…” Jenson’s lips quivered as panic crept into his eyes.

“Finally, let’s discuss the so-called expenses you claim to have spent on Ms. Hale.” Mrs. Zane picked up the card I had placed on the table.

“From the day this card was entrusted to my client, she has not spent a single cent. In fact…” Mrs. Zane’s tone sharpened, slicing through the tension. “Over the past year, she has deposited a total of 374,000 dollars into this card!”

Another detailed record of deposits appeared on the screen, each entry marked with the date and amount.

“And where did this money go? We've investigated that as well.”

One by one, the transaction history appeared on the screen.

“A Hermès classic handbag that cost 38,000 dollars. A total of 120,000 dollars was spent to repay your father’s gambling debts. 150,000 dollars was spent to cover the losses of your brother’s failed startup.”

It became clear that Jenson's glamorous lifestyle had been supported by me, the so-called 'gold digger'.

“Mr. Middleton, your claim for 800,000 dollars in compensation is utterly baseless.” Mrs. Zane’s voice cut like ice. “Now, you owe my client 374,000 dollars, plus the car.”

“No… It’s not like that…” Jenson was completely panicking now. He looked around desperately, seeking help from a woman in the crowd.

  • Gave Him My Paycheck, Now I Owe Him 800k   Chapter 9

Ever since the day we opened up to each other, things between Linden and me just fell into place. There was nothing dramatic about it. No fireworks or grand gestures, but there was warmth, steadiness, and a quiet understanding that grew deeper day by day.He could read every look in my eyes, and I grew used to the way he always planned around me. We worked together, ate together, and talked about the future together.Six months later, I proposed to him. It was an ordinary evening, right in the office where we always stayed late. There were no flowers or diamond rings, just my sincerity. He looked at me with red-rimmed eyes and nodded hard. Our wedding was set for early fall. That day, the sunlight was perfect, and the guests filled the venue.Linden stood at the end of the aisle, watching me walk toward him step by step, dressed in a pristine white dress with Dad holding my arm. There was a soft, blissful smile on his face, and his eyes were filled with affection. I knew then I h

“Why are you here?” I was a little surprised.“I’m in charge of promoting this project, so I need to follow it through.” Linden smiled and handed me a bottle of water. “Looks like you’ve had quite a bit to drink. Here, quench your thirst.”“Thanks.” I took the bottle of water and stood beside him by the lake.“You did really well,” I added. “This deal wouldn’t have happened without you.”“It’s only thanks to you for giving me the opportunity." He hung his head and replied in a soft, low tone.We fell into a quiet moment. The vibe was slightly off, tinged with unspoken meaning.“Oh, right.” It was as though something crossed his mind. He reached into his bag and pulled out a small gift box, offering it to me. “Here, think of it as… a little gift to celebrate your successful project.”I opened it to find a finely crafted pen, engraved with two small letters—'E.H.'“I designed it myself.” Linden scratched the back of his head with a hint of embarrassment. “I’m not sure if you like

I attended the cocktail party as a representative of Glory Corporation that evening. Amid the clinking glasses and laughter, I spotted someone I never expected—Jenson. He had lost a lot of weight, and the innocence he once carried was gone. Now, he was arm-in-arm with a corpulent, middle-aged woman, laughing in a way that was almost grotesque. The woman was a well-known real estate tycoon in the city. Her family name was Walls. She was notorious for her appetite for men.Jenson’s body stiffened the moment he saw me. His smile froze on his face.Ms. Walls followed his gaze and immediately plastered on a smarmy smile when she saw me.“Oh my, isn’t this Ms. Hale? What a pleasure!”I gave a faint nod, acknowledging her.“Ms. Hale, let me introduce you. This is my… new favorite, Jens.” Ms. Walls patted Jenson’s hand. Her tone dripped with frivolity.Jenson paled but dared not speak.I felt the bitter irony. The man who once stood proudly before me like a prince had now become someo

The day after returning to Glory Corporation, Dad threw me straight into the CEO’s office. He said it was time for the heiress to take up her post.As I looked at the towering piles of files and the densely packed schedule, I felt my head spin.“Dad, this… I just got back. I’m not familiar with the business yet…”“Then learn,” he replied concisely, pointing toward the door. “You’ll have a capable assistant. Ask him if you need anything.”There was a knock on the door. The next second, a man in a crisp business suit walked in, exuding an icy, composed air. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, and his gaze was sharp yet calm.“Ms. Hale, hello. I’m Linden Reeves. I was appointed by the chairman as your chief special assistant.”His voice matched his appearance. It was cool and precise, without any unnecessary emotion.I nodded. “Hello, Mr. Reeves.”The following days were spent almost entirely under Linden’s guidance. He seemed to know every detail of the company and somehow always manag

That single sentence exploded through the banquet hall like a bomb.Yes, I was Elbert Hale's daughter!Jenson stared at me, then at Dad, as though he was trying to find traces of plastic surgery on my face.“No… No way… This is impossible!” Jenson shrieked hysterically. “She told me she was an orphan! Her parents died in a car accident when she was little!”I stared at him coldly before finally speaking again. It was the second time I voiced out since this entire ordeal began.“I did say my parents were gone.” I deliberately paused for a moment between each word. “It was because the day I decided to live on my own, the title of Glory Corporation’s heiress was already dead to me.“I wanted someone who would love me for who I was, not my family or wealth. I thought I had found that person.”My gaze, filled with endless disappointment and mockery, swept over his pale face.“Now, it seems like it was I who was blind.”Jenson’s legs buckled, and he collapsed to the floor while mutt

Following Jenson's gaze, I saw his immediate superior—the company’s vice president, Katherine Hum. Katherine stood there. Her face had turned chalk white, and she stared back at him in utter shock. “Katherine, you have to help me!” Jenson staggered toward her and clutched at her arm like it was his last lifeline.Katherine instinctively tried to step back, but Jenson gripped her arm tightly, refusing to let go.“Katherine, this was all your idea! You said as long as I kicked Estelle out and squeezed some money from her, you would—”“Stop talking nonsense!” Katherine yanked her arm free. A trace of panic crossed her face before she snapped, “Jenson, are you out of your mind? These are your own personal misdeeds. You defamed your ex-girlfriend, and now, you’re trying to drag me into this?!”She turned to Mrs. Zane and me, forcing a tight smile. “Ms. Hale, Mrs. Zane, this is Jenson’s personal moral failing and has nothing to do with our company.”No one there was blind.
