Chapter 1225

Author: Cozy Season
Robert didn't dodge, but the bullet didn't hit him.

It grazed past his ear, drawing blood.

But through that action, Robert figured out something. "You didn't tell her, did you? You're such a coward. If Debra found out that your love for her isn't what she imagines, would she still love you?"

With every word Robert uttered, Marion's gaze grew colder.

Unfazed, Robert pressed on, "I heard Mrs. Houston is picky when it comes to relationships. If she knew that the love between you two over the past year was nothing but a joke, do you think she'd kick you out of her world and hate you for the rest of her life?"

"You really have a death wish." Marion's face lost every trace of humor.

One of the men nearby quickly stepped forward, grabbing Marion's arm. "Sir, don't fall for it. He's trying to provoke you. If he dies, we'll never find out who's behind all this."

Marion's face was icy. Robert knew that was his true nature. He was born without emotions, sympathy, and empathy.

"Just kidding. Dream or reality, past or future, I'm never Sampson," Drake said.Sampson didn't deserve to be his family name."Alright, I don't need you today. Go back to your dorm," he added, ruffling her hair.Debra stared at him, stunned. He didn't need her, but he had dragged her out and made her walk so far.She looked back. The dorm building was a mile away. She suddenly felt sticking to her own business wasn't such a bad idea.Drake wandered around the campus alone. He passed the basketball court, the main field, the two cafeterias in the west district, the coffee shop, and the convenience store.School days seemed easygoing and relaxed. This kind of life was something he had never experienced before. Before he knew it, he'd walked a long way. He stopped, not even turning around, but he knew Debra was trailing him."Why are you following me?" he asked.Debra had kept her distance, deliberately slowing her steps to stay discreet. But Drake still sensed it."Uh... I wa

Debra hesitated, then took his cup.One sip, and her face scrunched. "Ugh, it's like syrup. How do you drink this?""Used to it," Drake said, sipping again.Debra tried her own tea, but now it tasted bland. Just yesterday, she had tried one and found it good.As they walked, the maple leaves drifted down. From his angle, she was striking. In truth, she was always striking. Her fire just usually outshone her looks."A question has been bothering me," she started. "Why do you always stare at me like that? Do we know each other?"Too many emotions were hidden in his gaze, but there was no malice. That was why she wanted to help me in the first place."You remind me of a friend.""Really?""Sort of. Meeting her was bad luck. Everything went sideways after.""That bad?""Oh yeah. She subverted my life. She's sharp, and I can't outwit her. Kinda hate her for it.""Sounds like you don't hate her. You care about her."Drake stopped, frowning. "Care? I'd care about dogs first."Sh

Drake smiled with satisfaction. For once, he had finally one-upped Debra."I want bubble tea.""Now? I've got class soon.""Feeling low. Might jump."He turned toward the edge again. Debra grabbed him. "Okay, okay. I'll get your bubble tea."She remembered there was a store 700 meters away. She hesitated for a moment and said, "To keep you safe, you're going with me.""I'm a man of my word," Drake clarified. "If you want me to come along, I'm game."Debra shot him a look, catching the glint in his eyes. "Alright, let's go."She led the way. Drake stayed a step behind. The passing students looked at them, curious.Debra glanced back a few times, noting his polite distance. It was not bad, but it felt like he was her bodyguard. The 700 meters to the shop felt eternal. At the counter, she pointed to the menu. "Which one?""With pearls," he replied."Two bubble teas with pearls, please," she told the cashier. He added, "Full sugar.""It's already sweet.""I like it sweeter

Drake couldn't resist messing with Debra."No point living," he said, playing it up. "Might as well end it.""There's so much out there," she pleaded. "You're only 18. A bright future is still ahead.""No future," he said, still sitting on the edge. "You don't know what I've been through. Someone like me? I'm too rotten to live.""Nothing's set in stone," she said, frantic. "If you're hurting, talk to me. You don't have to do this. Yesterday, I was kinda harsh. I'm sorry. Just come down. It's dangerous."The wind roared. One slip, and he'd fall for real.Drake shifted, dangling his legs off the edge."Chill," she said, even more anxious. "I don't even know why I'm up here, but I studied psychology for a year. I can help. This won't solve anything. Think of your parents or someone you care about. Or that show you love, still waiting for the finale. New stuff happens every day. You can find something worth sticking around for. If you're lonely, I'll hang with you.""Hang with me?

Drake's casual flex drew a crowd.Everyone wondered if the school was recruiting ballers now."Man, you're good," one yelped."Name your dinner. I'm paying," another echoed. They rushed him, sweaty and hyped, piling on like he'd won a championship. Drake dodged, but they were relentless, all bro-hugs and cheers.By nine p.m., he was wiped. These kids had endless energy, alive in a way he'd forgotten. He crashed in the dorm, expecting to wake up from the dream. But when he opened his eyes, he was still at school. His roommates were snoring like chainsaws. It was eight a.m., but nobody stirred.'No classes?' he wondered. Then he started to think about his own problem. He seriously doubted that he had inhaled too much of the incense and had sunk into a deep coma in the real world.Panic crept in. He bolted from the dorm without washing up. He considered jumping off the building or slitting his wrist. The pain might snap him up from the dream. He sprinted to the tallest building

Debra flinched at his rasp.Drake paused, wondering if he had gone too far. Then he nodded, believing so. This wasn't the full-fledged Debra he knew. It was just another regular girl.He frowned, unsure how to communicate with normal girls. Her scared look rattled him even more."Yo, that's not how you chase a girl," a guy said, slinging an arm around Drake."Debra's a catch, but you're coming on way too strong," another added. They acted like they were old friends with Drake, but he wasn't having it."Hands off," he said coldly. In the real world, people would've backed off or even begged forgiveness, but these two guys laughed it off, slapping his shoulders."No need to play shy. We're all guys," one of them said. "If you're into her, we'll help out. Let's hit the court later. My treat at the cafeteria tonight."Drake had zero interest in their frat-boy energy. In the two minutes he wasted on them, Debra vanished. His mood soured. He shook off their hands, ready to ditch,
