Chapter 1590

Author: Cozy Season
Liza was alone in the pitch-black wine cellar. Gunshots echoed from upstairs.

She desperately wanted to see what was happening, but the door had been locked.

Finally, the noise stopped. But the silence was even more unsettling.

Suddenly, the iron door creaked open. Liza hid in a corner, fearing the worst.

Then she heard Lara's voice. "Miss Eaton, it's me."

Liza peeked out from her hiding spot. Her voice shook as she asked, "What's going on out there?"

Lara rushed in and helped her up. "Fermin... He killed everyone in the house."

Liza was stunned by the news.

"But don't worry, his men didn't find this place," Lara reassured her, holding her hand tightly. "But you can't stay here anymore. Fermin is worried about you. If he doesn't find you, he might kill more people. If you go back to him and say you got lost, he won't blame you."

Liza was still reeling from the shock. Fermin had always been kind to her, never showing his ruthless side. But those gunshots...

A heavy weight settled in Liza's chest. If it weren't for her, those servants wouldn't have died."I've arranged a car outside," Lara said. "The driver will take you to Fermin. Just make sure he never finds out I sheltered you. Otherwise, Mrs. Houston and I will both be in trouble."Liza didn't want to cause Debra any more problems. She agreed without hesitation.Outside, the driver was already waiting.Lara stood at the doorway, watching as Liza left. The worried expression on her face slowly faded.Stepping back into the house, she surveyed the wreckage around her. The thick, metallic scent of blood filled the air, but she didn't seem to mind. Instead, she casually sank onto the couch, picking up a glass of wine. After a moment, she stood up and walked over to a vintage record player. She placed a new record onto the turntable, letting elegant music flow through the room. She hummed along and began to waltz. Her arms moved as if she were holding someone close, her steps light

Fermin admitted, "I did."Liza's heart sank as she realized he was responsible for the deaths of the Sharp family members."Can't you stop killing people?" Liza asked softly, her voice tinged with pleading.Usually, Fermin couldn't resist her when she acted this way.But this time, his tone was serious. "Liza, this world is brutal. If you don't kill, you'll be killed. I did this to protect our family and the thousands of employees who depend on us. I did this for you."He seemed to regret his words and quickly changed the subject. "Don't go anywhere recently. I don't care what happens to anyone else, but I will make sure you're safe."Liza was confused. Their family's power was immense. No one could challenge them. Only the Illuminati could pose a threat....At the D&M club, Debra had dismantled Fermin's operations. Josh handed her confidential files they had obtained from the Illuminati members.Debra reviewed the list. It included industry elites, entertainment veterans, bu

Even though the rumors were flying that Marion and Debra's marriage was falling apart, she was still the CEO of the McKinney Group."Move aside." The butler stepped out of the villa, and at his command, the guards quickly cleared a path.He walked up to Debra and said, "Mrs. Houston, our master has been waiting for you."Debra knew it was Bert who had saved Michael. She should have come to see him the moment she arrived overseas, but she had to take care of the loose ends first.Still, she felt a little guilty about trapping Fermin. She followed the butler into the house. Bert was in the living room, waiting.Debra didn't know how to start the conversation, but Bert simply lifted his gaze and said, "I know why you're here." "You do?" She was surprised.Bert nodded. "The Illuminati? I've known about them for 20 years. In fact, I was one of their core members."Debra was stunned. She had suspected he had some connection to the organization, but not so deep."I planned to take

Debra listened intently as Bert recounted the past."In my youth, I was ambitious and fearless. This recklessness helped me establish myself here. But 20 years ago, a business failure led me to the Illuminati. They offered to help me regain my footing, and I accepted. For a while, I was blinded by power and status. Later, I discovered that my previous business troubles were orchestrated by the Illuminati to recruit me.""You mentioned you were a core member 20 years ago. Are you still involved with them?" Debra asked.Bert shook his head. "After Liza's mother passed away, I wanted out. I realized the Illuminati wasn't about helping businesses succeed; it was a trap. My role was to provide favors to their people. I turned a blind eye to many things, including the black markets overseas."His eyes clouded over with regret. "The first time I attended one of their banquets, I was shocked. I thought I'd seen it all, but the mix of desire and darkness was overwhelming.""Was the banquet

Bert sighed, "She was always frail. After giving birth to Liza, her health got even worse. She spent most of her time in the hospital, while I was trying to figure out how to cut ties with the Illuminati. Back then, they made it clear. If I wanted out, there'd be a price. It could've been my status or wealth, but never in my worst nightmares did I think the price would be her life."Debra froze. "They killed your wife?"Bert's expression darkened, his voice heavy with regret and hatred. "That day, the hospital called, saying she was bleeding out. I rushed there, but by the time I arrived, all I saw was her cold body in the morgue.""You mean they drained the hospital's blood supply?"A chill ran down her spine. In her past life, she had also suffered massive blood loss during childbirth, only to find out all the A-type blood in the hospital had been transferred by Shelia. But now, she wasn't so sure.Even if Shelia had Juan wrapped around her finger, pulling off something like th

"Maybe you never truly understood him," Debra disagreed. "He genuinely cares for Liza. He might have his reasons.""I hope so," Bert said tiredly. "I will do my part against the Illuminati. You young folks are more capable than us. Just promise me you'll take care of Liza. She's been spoiled her whole life and doesn't know the world's dangers."He paused, then continued, "But since she made friends with you, she has matured a lot. I've lived long enough to know that money isn't everything. Staying alive is what matters. Please look after her. She truly values your friendship, and I believe you do too."Debra nodded. "I promise, I'll take care of her.""There's nothing more I need to say," Bert said, handing Debra a badge. "Please keep this."The badge was different from the others they had recently seized. It had a phoenix emblem. It was the most complete badge Debra had ever seen."This belongs to the core members of the Illuminati," Bert explained. "Their goal is to create a pe

Debra found it laughable. They called themselves the great minds of this era after committing all those vile acts. They were no heroes of humanity. They weren't saving the world. They were just securing their wealth and power."By the way, how is Michael doing?" she asked, changing the subject."His injuries aren't too bad. With some rest, he'll recover in a few days. I'll have the butler take you to him," Bert replied. With many questions to ask Michael, she followed the butler to a corner room on the second floor. She pushed open the door and saw Michael lying in bed."Knew you'd come today," he smiled."And you're still laughing? You look like hell." Debra sat down beside him. "How are you feeling?""I'll live.""Who attacked you?""A man in a black cloak and a mask.""The Illuminati?""Given your descriptions, I believe he's one of them.""Why did he attack you?""I turned him down." He placed a black envelope in her hand. "They left this at my hotel room door. Matche

"I feel the same way. But with friends like you, I'm not afraid," Debra said."Do you?" Michael laughed. "You pushed everyone away to face the Illuminati alone.""I still have you," she said."So, I'm important to you?" he asked, looking at her intently."You were the first to believe in me when I had nothing," she replied. "You've been by my side all these years. Of course, you're important."In her past life, she had failed him. In this life, she wanted to elevate him to the top.And he was willing to do anything to support her.Michael looked at her for a long time. "Good to know.""Don't go out or investigate the Illuminati for now. You'll be safe here," Debra said, placing a bag of chocolates on the bed. "I got these from that shop you love. Your manager said you always go there. Get better and don't worry about anything else."Michael stared at the chocolates. After Debra left, he picked up the bag.The chocolates were beautifully arranged in a nine-slot box. He picked

It was afternoon already.Debra and Marion parked their car outside the valley.Looking at the sprawling terrain ahead, Debra couldn't shake the memory of trekking through it with Kale just days ago.Revisiting this place made her shiver."Your injury's still fresh," Marion said. "I can go alone."Debra shook her head. "We agreed on going together. Besides, I'm not here to fight. It will be fine."Marion ruffled her hair. "Alright, we're in this together."Enoch brought Erica here to lure them in. That much was clear. Now that they were here, they'd get her out. With night closing in, they quickly followed the route they'd mapped out and headed in.The map from Juan came in handy. In less than 30 minutes, they reached a clearing smack in the middle of four towering mountains.Mist hung light in the air, and the jagged peaks all around gave off a heavy, oppressive vibe.Through the fog, figures in black cloaks and white masks stepped out.Debra slid behind Marion, their han

'When did he get this good?'At the entrance, more guards tried to block Randy. He didn't slow down as he threw punches at them.Even with their number, they couldn't catch him.30 seconds later, Randy was in his car, peeling out toward the valley. Scenes from his childhood flashed across his mind."Leg up. Fist tight. Punch!" Caleb shouted.Erica eyed the wooden dummies in front of them and aimed for perfection.Randy's attention was all on her. He was not interested in these self-defense skills at all."Randy, focus!" Caleb whacked his arm with a cane. "Get real or go home."Randy couldn't care less. The truth was, he had already learned it all.At eight years old, his freakish athletic genes got him shipped off to a two-month boot camp. There, his raw talent made him untouchable in the junio

Lara came downstairs, smirking at Michael. "This time, even if you want to let them off, it won't happen."Michael was unfazed. "Don't say stuff that'll get twisted. I never plan to do that.""Oh, please. I know you better than that," Lara snorted. "Drop the act."Growing up, Michael had been given the best of everything. They were both in line to take over, but Michael got the bishop's favor from day one.Even if he didn't fight for it, he'd eclipse her. The bishop's partiality never failed to rattle her.She was a woman. True. But she was not any inferior to Michael. The partiality was unbelievable. This world's full of women outshining men.She was the one to help the bishop build something huge. The altar was only for her to ascend. She stepped up to Michael. It would be so much fun."She observed Michael's expression, but there wasn't a crack."You done

The guard at the gate quickly stepped out of the booth. "Greetings, Mr. and Mrs. Houston. Unfortunately, Mr. Osborne isn't home.""We're not here for him," Marion said flat-out. "I want last night's security footage."The guard hesitated. "I'm sorry, but without Mr. Osborne saying so, I can't just hand it over.""Randy is lying in the hospital right now," Debra cut in. "Erica went missing from your place last night. If you don't cough up the tapes and something happens to her, can you take the heat?"The guard was shocked. "Mr. Randy Osborne in the hospital? And Miss Mathis is gone? I'll grab the footage. Hang on."He dashed to the security room. But when he pulled up the feed, the screen was pitch black."What's wrong? Is it busted?" Debra asked. The guard smacked the console a couple of times, and the picture flickered on. There was Enoch, stuffing a sack into his trunk and driving off. That explained why the cameras outside had only caught Enoch.Debra felt a chill run thro

A loud crash blasted through the phone, followed by screeching static.Debra's gut sank. "Randy's in trouble. Let's hurry."Jordan quickly rounded up a crew to track down Randy, while Debra and Marion bolted out of the house. That phone call screamed car wreck. Marion had Randy's location pinned fast, and an ambulance was already on its way."Don't panic. The ambulance is almost there," Debra reminded him, watching him push the speedometer. It was fine if it was just a regular crash. But if the Illuminati had set it up, the consequences were unimaginable. Enoch must have lost his mind to target his son.Debra and Marion had both lost their parents to car accidents. Marion would be devastated if he lost another person close to him."Quick! Get him out!"Thick smoke poured from the crash site. Debra's bad vibes grew. They jumped out and saw Jordan's people loading Randy onto a stretcher."How bad is it?" Debra ran up, desperate for details."Not too serious," Jordan replied. "

The maid froze. "Didn't Miss Mathis leave last night? I don't know where she is. But she's not here."A bad feeling hit Randy like a ton of bricks. He bolted out of the room and ran to the guest room next door. When he flung the door open, Erica wasn't there. The bed was pristine, with no sign of anyone sleeping in it.Erica was lazy as hell. There was no way she'd make the bed herself.Randy lost his head until what Theda had said suddenly echoed in his mind.If Enoch were the mastermind behind the Illuminati, he might have done something to Erica."Where's my dad?" Randy asked, his blood running cold. The maid had never seen him like this. He barked, "I'm asking you where my dad is."She stammered, "I called him last night like you asked. He came back for a bit and took off again."Now he confirmed that Enoch had taken Erica."Give me the phone.""Yes, sir."The maid handed it over.Randy dialed Enoch's number but could not get through.Sweat beaded on his forehead. Erica laughed, getting the implication.Randy coughed dryly. "Mom, what are you even saying? I'm not that kind of person."With that, he hustled Erica out of the room.As the door closed, she frowned. "What now? Your dad is suspicious.""Well, we'll deal with it when he gets back. Now take a rest.""Alright."He led her to a clean guest room."Yvette seemed fine just now. Didn't look like she's got any mental issues.""It comes and goes. She can be normal and confused at times.""Has she seen a doctor?""Yeah. They say it's from some big shock. If she takes it easy, she's pretty much fine. Her nerves are just shot. My dad kept her locked up here all these years. Probably doesn't want folks to know he's got a crazy wife."In his mind, Enoch always put profit and reputation first. If people found out he had a nutcase for a wife, he might ditch her. Even if he didn't, he'd freeze them out.One question was always hovering in Randy's mind. If Yvette wasn't tied to the Potter f

"Erica, let's head upstairs."Randy held Erica's hand as they walked up the stairs. The second floor was dead quiet, and the hallway lights were dim. At the far end was Yvette's bedroom. The door was wide open. Inside, Yvette sat at her vanity, brushing her hair.Nearing 50, she still looked good, though she'd let time take its toll. Her face was lined with wrinkles."Randy? You're back," she exclaimed, catching his reflection in the mirror. She turned around and saw him standing there, holding Erica's hand."Mom." Randy squeezed Erica's hand. "I brought Erica to see you."Yvette's eyes shifted to Erica, and she searched in her memories. After a while, she caught it. "Erica, I remember you. Randy always talked about you when he was a kid. I thought you two were just rivals or something."Yvette walked over to Erica and grabbed her hand. Everyone nodded at Marion's call. They split tasks fast.Randy drove Erica toward the Osborne Mansion, speeding through the dark. When they parked, he didn't budge from the driver's seat."Don't stress. I'm here with you," Erica said, squeezing his hand. She knew what ate at him. If Enoch was really the Illuminati's head, it would spark a war. His relationship with Enoch would be unmendable."I never saw this coming," Randy said, his face shadowed with a rare gloom. He had always known Enoch didn't care about him, Yvette, or their family. In fact, he had never known much about Enoch. Without Theda's hunch today, he'd never have linked Enoch to the Illuminati."If Enoch is tied to them, what will you do?" Erica asked, watching him closely. She knew that blood was thicker than water."I don't know." Randy shook his head.Being the heir to the Osborne family never mattered to him, but he could not deny his bloodline. If it came to picking sides, he didn't know if he'd back Mar
