Chapter 4

Ana's pov

“My love, I'm sorry, but do you mind explaining everything to me again?”

My Mom asked me; each word that passed through her lips did so with intentional efforts, so much so that it made my heart basically ache to watch my once energetic mother struggle with something so basic as speech.

In the past weeks, I had mastered the art of crafting believable stories. I told her that I have been working for a rich old lady who was in dire need of a caretaker.

“So what went wrong?” She inquired worriedly.

“The woman passed away, but her kids refused to pay me…I would take them to court but…even that isn't an option now, besides they can always bribe the judge to favor them.”

My Mom settled in her bed, a look of complete resignation claiming her facial features.

“I suppose it wasn't meant to be, you did your best, and that means the world to me…”

“But Mom…”

“It's okay,” she said soothingly as she stroked my hair, “It's, Okay, my love.”

I burst into tears and hugged her, unable to believe that after all I did, I would still end up back in square one; watching my mother die slowly in front of my eyes.

Miraculously, my mother made it to the next week and the week after that. However, I knew that we were on borrowed time.

That maybe one day, I would show up at the hospital and find her covered in a white sheet. But until then, I wanted to show her just how much I loved her before she's finally gone. I got a job as a cleaner in a small law firm so I was able to afford some of my mother's drugs and groceries in my apartment, where the only now existing piece of furniture was a second hand chair and table.

I never told my mom about the burglary; that would be heavy weight on her already weak heart. So I fed her lies that my future was beginning to look bright, when it was the darkest that it had ever been.

As for Marcus Blinge, his face was like a recurrent nightmare that I had to relive constantly because that man was everywhere: TV, billboards, magazines, you name it…I could never escape him or the hunting guilt that plagued my heart.

Asides all that, my daily life was simple and unproblematic. However, because I wasn't destined to ever have a single lick of happiness, the owner of the law firm announced that the company was facing the possibility of bankruptcy and they would have to let go of a few employees.

“Miss Miller, you are dismissed from your responsibilities tomorrow. You'll be paid only for the days you have worked.”

“Sir, is there no way I can work…at least till the end of the month?” I pleaded, “I really need the money.”

“Unless you are willing to work for free,” he said sarcastically.

“Now if you could please leave my office, I have important matters to attend to.”

At that moment I wished the Earth would just open up and swallow me whole. Why? Why must everything happen to me? Why should any little thing I try to achieve go down to s**t, always?

The next day, I arrived knowing that it was going to be my last. I thought about slacking off since nothing was going to make the owner change his mind, but then I didn't want to give him any excuse to not pay me my proper wage.

So I went to attack the toilets, starting out first with the men's…the abhorrent smell that assaulted my nostrils the moment I cracked the door open almost made me retreat.

No matter how much I tried to get used to it, it always stung.

I cemented my resolve and stepped in. By the time I was done with the last toilet, I smelt awful. However, I didn't have time to dwell on that as I went through the door, and that's when I locked eyes with him.

In all the million scenarios I had pictured in my head on both of us crossing paths again. This was one that I didn't dare to imagine yet, it was unfolding right in front of me as stark reality.

“F**k!” I gasped.

He looked straight at me and I could hardly read his eyes; was he angry that the girl he had trusted had not only drugged but robbed him as well?

“Olivia, what a pleasant surprise…” He said, the smell emanating from me forcing him to scrunch his nose, as he took a step back. Maybe I could use it as an opening to escape–

“If you are thinking of escaping, I suggest that you account for my men surrounding this building…”

I gulped a heavy lump of spit. How did he find me?

“Look, I can explain…I–”

“You know, this hardly looks like a jeweler. Does your father know about this, Olivia?”

“Or should I say, Ana Miller…”

I couldn't stop the shock from spreading across my features. He had really caught me. I don't know how he did it, I must have been careless somehow.

“Are you going to have me arrested?” I asked, every inch of my body, trembling with raw fear; I should have known with rotten luck like mine, eventually this shady business was going to catch up with me.

If only I had been able to save Mom.

He let me quake beneath his blue gaze for a second before–

“No.” I was foolish enough to allow myself to feel a little bit of relief, but it was snuffed out when he added with a devious smile, “I have something else planned for you…come with me, but walk at a distance…you stink.”

He had not been lying, outside the firm his bodyguards large and imposing like tamed rhinos were waiting. He had brought two cars with him, I took the second, with my heart ready to pop.

“What exactly do you want with me, Mr Blinge?” I asked desperately.

“You'll soon find out,” he said, before one of his bulkier bodyguards slammed the door shut.

Chapter 20Ana's POVSilence stretched between us after Marcus’s confession. His words hung in the air, cold and unwavering."I never want to have one."I gripped the wine glass tighter, my heartbeat pounding in my ears. My free hand instinctively brushed over my stomach—over the tiny life growing inside me. He had no idea.I swallowed hard, forcing a small, casual laugh. "Marcus, just because your father was a terrible parent doesn’t mean you will be."His jaw clenched. "You don’t understand, Ana.""Then make me understand."He exhaled sharply, rubbing his temple as if debating whether to say more. "I don’t just hate children. I fear what I’d become if I had one. My father—he was a tyrant. He controlled everything—my mother, my childhood, my future. He made me believe love was a weakness. That family was just a means to an end."I watched him closely. This wasn’t the arrogant, untouchable Marcus Blinge I knew. This was someone burdened by his past, by the demons he tried to outrun.H

Chapter 19Ana's POV The following week came by pretty quick, with Marcus being less annoying and demanding I had no problem doing my job. I was surprised that this part of him existed. He smiled more often, we went to work together and got back together, we ate breakfast and dinner together. It was gradually becoming a routine that I was looking forward to everyday. Sometimes I get lost in the thought of that day. The memory of his hand, his lips, the way he whispered that I was his. It all clung to me like a second skin that I couldn't wash away. I glanced at myself in the mirror for the last time smoothing the creases on my gown. I was wearing a purple coperate flare gown, and I must say it looked beautiful on me. I arranged my hair again before I picked up my bag and walked out of my room to the kitchen." Marcus, I'm done." I called out as I entered the kitchen. I didn't get a response." Marcus?" I called out again, still no response. I noticed a note on the covered plate of

Chapter 18Ana's POV I woke up to the sound of steady breathing beside me. For a moment, I forgot where I was— until I felt the firm weight of a hand draped around my waist. My eyes snapped open and I turned to see Marcus still sleeping peacefully. I picked up my phone to check the time and it was four AM. I think I have to leave before he wakes up. I carefully peeled his arm off me and sat up, he stirred but didn't wake up. He looked so relaxed and incapable of being rude or strict. I exhaled deeply and ran my fingers through my hair before standing up, I had to get out of here before things get complicated. I tiptoed around the room and picked up my bag and shoe. Just as I reached the door, I heard his groggy voice." Ana." I turned back to see him sitting on the bed, rubbing his eyes. " Good morning, Sir." I said with a tight lipped smile. " Morning, where are you going? It's still dark outside." He said picking up his phone to check the time. " Home?" I said stating the ob

  • Got Pregnant For My Ex Boss    A Glimpse of Vulnerability

Chapter 17Ana's POV I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror, the intense redness of my eyes indicated that I had been crying. I pulled my hair into a messy bun allowing few strands of hair out to frame my face. I needed to pull myself together, today was not the day to fall apart. I splashed cold water on my face hoping it would wash away the exhaustion that cling to me like a second skin. It was already seven AM, I let out a tired sigh grabbing my bag and headed out of the apartment. I looked around the buzzing city but I felt disconnected from it. My mind kept replaying the picture of Marcus and Daisy throughout the entire ride to the office. I don't know why I got my hopes up that we could have a chemistry. I was just his property, another thing he acquired via a contract. What hurts the most is that he reminds me of it at every moment he gets. When I arrived at the office, immediately I noticed something was off. Marcus packing space in the garage was vacant. That's w

  • Got Pregnant For My Ex Boss    Family Secrets and Threats

Chapter 16Marcus POV I stared at the picture of I and Daisy that had spread all over the internet like wild fire. She had locked lips with me that night against my wish. She had invited me for a meeting that night, I went with the intention of cutting her off completely and warning her to stay away from Ana. But she obviously had tricks up her sleeves. I walked into the penthouse hoping that Ana had not seen it yet, at least until I explained it. The elevator opened at the floor of the penthouse and she was standing right there with a small bag. " Where are you going?" " Far away from your drama obviously." She said as she tried to walk past me. " You are not going anywhere until we talk this out." " You want to talk Marcus? No! We can't talk." She yelled angrily. She's going to make me do this the hard way." You are not allowed to leave to anywhere without my permission." I said sternly as I arranged my suit." Says who?" She shot back. " Says the contract, so if you still

  • Got Pregnant For My Ex Boss    Betrayal And Heartache

Chapter 15Ana's POV I had not seen Marcus since the day at the cafe. He didn't show up at the office and he didn't even drop by the penthouse like he used to do. I was left to manage the office alone, Jolene was a great company though. We ate lunch together so I wasn't really bored but I could feel his absence at the office. I tried to focus on work but I couldn't shake off the feeling of sadness that settled in my chest. I decided to take a break from the work cycle and visit my mum at the hospital. I hadn't seen her in a while. I walked down the hallway that my mum's ward was on. When I got to her ward she wasn't there. The place was cleared like no one was ever there. My heart started beating fast and it felt like the world was spinning. I rushed out of the room panicking. I really hope she is fine. I saw a nurse walking down the hallway and decided to ask her." Excuse me." I said obstructing her way. " I'm looking for my mum, room 516. She's not there." " I don't know where
