Chapter 563 Traitors

Author: Five Generals
The woman was Ryan’s wife, Rei.

She scolded Ryan when she saw him talking to others.

Ryan shrugged and said, “Rei, this is Winnie Souffle from Shangrila Group…”

“I don’t care what souffle or pancake! If they are not here to see a doctor or buy medicine, tell them to… Wait, what? What did you say?”

Rei widened her eyes at Winnie.

“Winnie White you mean? James White’s wife?”

Winnie smiled. “It’s Souffle now. Hi, Rei. I’m here on behalf of Shangrila Group to invite Ryan back to the company as the technical supervisor for the lab…”

“Oh no you don’t!” Rei shouted and stopped Winnie before she could finish.

“You just want the patent that Ryan has!” Rei’s arms akimbo as she glared at Winnie. “Don’t even think about it!”

Winnie frowned.

“Rei, the patents belonged to Ryan. Even if we were to use it, we would pay him accordingly, but a part of it belongs to our lab and it’s only natural for us to take it back.”

“Winnie is right.” Ryan nodded.

“What did you say?!” Rei slap

“He’s the chairman of Shangrila Group?” Upon hearing Winnie, not only Zach, Aster, and Shelly were shocked, but even Ryan looked at Kaze in surprise. No one expected that the young man who kept a low profile behind Winnie was the chairman who single-handedly brought Shangrila Group back to life. “Ryan, the chairman is here to welcome you back,” Winnie said. She wanted to use this chance to persuade Ryan back to oversee the lab. “Hmph! Chairman? So what? We are now working for the top three families!” “The top three families are kings in Lilyrose! They even got rid of Shangrila Group two years ago, and they can do it again now!” “As a matter of fact, Frank alone was more than enough to destroy you and your little chairman, let alone the top three families combined!” Zach, Aster, and Shelly mocked Winnie and Kaze after the initial surprise. The three of them were recruited by the top three families but they were never part of the core team. They had no idea that durin

“Get him!” Zach ordered Aster and Shelly. The three of them jumped on Ryan, punching and kicking him for the patents. Being crippled, Ryan was not capable of fighting back. He hugged his head and curled up his body on the ground, grunting in pain. The three of them were his students once, yet they turned on him. “Good one! Beat him to death! Useless piece of shit! If you gave the patents to the top three families, I would have lived a better life for the past two years, not being poor!” What devastated Ryan even more was his wife, Rei, cheering on his assaulters instead of helping him. “Hand it over!” “No!” Ryan refused to loosen his lips even though he was beaten up. Shelly was infuriated. She lifted her foot wearing the heel and aimed at Ryan’s crotch. Slap! Suddenly, a slap landed on her face and sent her to the ground. “What the fuck? You slapped me?!” She screamed as she covered her face. Slap! Slap! Kaze ignored the woman and slapped Zach and Aster t

“Really?” Ryan picked his chin up and looked at Kaze with a twinkle in his eyes. “As if! You’re just a good-for-nothing handicap. I will never regret my decision.“Hmph! Shangrila Group was no match for the top three families two years ago. I doubt that has changed even now. Ryan, you will only be in a worse situation if you go with him.“Mr. Golding said that it will be the end of Shangrila Group in the next few days.” Zach and the others expressed their disdain. Noticing Ryan’s hesitance, Winnie persuaded. “Trust in the chairman, Ryan. I wasn’t in a better circumstance than you before, but look at me now.” “Alright, I’ll go with you to Shangrila Group.” Ryan trusted Winnie more than anything. He rose to his feet. Rei panicked because Ryan had not handed over the technology. She blew a fuse and threatened him. “If you walked out on me, I’m filing for divorce, Ryan.” “Fine by me.” Ryan no longer cherished his wife who had betrayed their sacred vows. Nevertheless

Winnie sensed something amiss because it sounded like the person on the other end of the line was brushing her off. She asked with a frown, “By a later date, how long are you referring to?” “The earliest we can do is three months, but I can’t give you a definitive deadline. It can be a year or more,” the company representative replied nonchalantly. Winnie grew furious. “But the contract states that the shipment would be dispatched within ten days. Don’t tell me Key High Tech can’t keep up with production.” “Don’t put that on us, Ms. Souffle.” The representative said unhappily, “We have received a lot of orders, and you are in the back of the line. What choice do we have?” Winnie saw red. Key High Tech only received such a large order because Shangrila Group was trying to set up a laboratory. A procurement order of tens of millions of dollars was considered a substantial order to Key High Tech. Besides, some equipment was worth millions of dollars individually. Even

Kaze merely smiled as Ryan reeled in the shock. If Ryan had seen the God of War Palace’s defense technology laboratory, he probably would have passed out in awe. Winnie and Ryan were confused. They did not understand why Kaze brought them there. “Derek, can you share the quality of the precision instrument you developed for clinical studies?” Kaze asked. Carrying the pride of a scholar, Derek said proudly, “Our lab boasts the most advanced technology in the entire military. Our commitment to quality is unsurpassed, Sir. Even state-level labs utilize our state-of-the-art equipment.” Ryan was envious. If only Shangrila Group’s laboratory could be set up with such cutting-edge equipment. No doubt it would be a great help to his research. Kaze pointed at Ryan and Winnie before uttering, “This is Ms. Souffle from Shangrila Group and Ryan Waker, who oversees the company research lab.“I have a thought of a possible collaboration. You can partner with Shangrila Group to set u

Rei did not stop with just the video. She also sent Ryan two voice messages. “You’re useless, Ryan. I heard from Zach that the Four Ocean Commerce Guild issued a boycott order on Shangrila Group. You can forget ever acquiring any equipment. “Are you running a laboratory or nothing? Haha! How do you like that?” The sound of running water and Zach’s ridicule played in the background. Ryan dared not imagine what they were doing. “Don’t get too excited, bitch. The Four Ocean Commerce Guild is irrelevant. We are getting the testing apparatus transported to the company overnight, and I can guarantee you that the technology is more advanced than the top three families’.” He pressed the button to record his reply. Once done, he did not send the voice message. It was not too late to prove the cheating couple wrong after setting up the laboratory and conducting the important experiments. Kaze witnessed everything. He smiled and uttered, “Just send the voice message, Ryan.” “Mr

The general manager of Lilyrose Logistics, Howard was the son-in-law of the Goldings. He was an uncle to Frank. Howard would not neglect a call from his nephew, Frank. So, he immediately rolled out Frank’s instructions. Lilyrose Logistics dominated the distribution chain in Lilyrose. No other shipping companies would dare retaliate against it. These companies heeded Lilyrose Logistics’ orders right away. Soon, the main roads into the city were closed. All freight vehicles entering Lilyrose would be stopped and searched. The power and reach of the top three families permeated the complex network. The local government turned a blind eye to Lilyrose Logistics’ illegal road closures. Some authorities in uniform even volunteered to cover for them. It explained why the public considered Johnson a figurehead mayor. The real people running the city were the three family heads. Large trucks snaked along the roadside, queueing on the other side of the toll booth at around t

Greed was visible on Leath’s face. He had thoughts about hijacking the freight and logistics domain in Melrose. Leath had attempted to dip his fingers there before, but he suffered a massive loss instead. Now that he had a chance for a do-over, he was not going to let the opportunity slip through his fingers. All he needed to do was destroy dozens of cargo vans. The destruction would cost a heavy loss to the logistics company in Melrose. Even if the company did not go bankrupt, the loss would be hard to recover from. “Stop!” “Stop and pull over to the side!” Leath’s men had set up a roadblock. As the men clamored, the fleet of cargo vans pulled over. “Where are the goods heading?” Leath’s subordinate aggressively pulled the driver from his seat. “Shangrila Group.” “Open the door now.” “Alright.” The strange thing was the drivers appeared rather calm. They opened the doors to the cargo beds, no questions asked, nor did they consider retaliation. Leath’

“Kaze can pull the punches for sure. I mean, he has the Butterworth branch chief’s trust for a reason. “There has to be something for him to win the branch chief’s approval.” Edmund doubted there was depth to Kaze. After all, Edmund decided whether to take on a person based on their abilities. It made no sense to pay attention to losers, as he would hold them in contempt. Edmund had been impressed with Herman, who excelled in strategies and management. That was why Edmund bumped Herman up and made sure he stayed on top. “Got it.” Herman nodded and had one foot out the door. “Don’t be in a hurry to leave. There’s one more thing.” Edmund pointed at the table. Herman approached and stood on bent knees. Pleased with Herman’s submission, Edmund passed him a wine glass. Herman took the drink humbly before looking carefully at Edmund, awaiting his orders. “The wine was just airlifted from abroad. I can vouch for the taste. If you’re looking to sip on the finest, yo

Time went by, and a towering man in a suit showed up outside the door. Picking up on the noise inside the room, he knocked on the door. It was hard to tell whether the person inside could hear the knocking, so the man waited outside. The door was opened, and a woman, her face flawless with makeup, popped her head out and saw him. She cocked her head back at Edmund. “You have a guest, Mr. Witterson.” “Let him in,” Edmund instructed. He then leaned in to take the drink from the girl next to him with his mouth. The other girls cheered him on. The group was lost in their fun. The man, who entered the room, stood by the sofa respectfully. He kept his head down, his gaze staying low at the bottles of alcohol spread across the table. It was a bit of a wait before the man approached at Edmund’s order. “Tell me about Dwight.”While listening to the girls’ singing, Edmund turned to Herman. Herman rushed over as soon as Edmund called. He won a lot of money at poker toda

In this particular circumstance, Morris had to play it safe so that things would not get out of hand. The last thing he wanted was to be dragged into the mess. At least, he finally saw the Wittersons’ true colors. Morris’ friendly advice was met with disrespect and insult. However, the Wittersons were a force of nature, and Morris was not about to take them head-on. Despite his frustration, Morris had to walk away. Well, Edmund would soon face his downfall at the height of his power, and Morris would be there to enjoy the ride. Still, it did not sit well with Morris to have a young fella walk all over him. It had crossed his mind to keep the Wittersons in check, but there was only so much he could do. Morris had to be the one to back away as the Wittersons grew haughty. Morris believed there was more to Kaze’s visit to Westeros. Nothing major happened in Westeros recently. At least, there was nothing worth the other branch’s attention. However, a representative of the

Morris suggested entertaining Kaze well. Things would not be good for the branch if Kaze got dirt on them. That was where Edmund disagreed with Morris. His idea was to send someone to sound Kaze out. Edmund was smug because Morris’ decision was wrong. “You shouldn’t do that. Kaze is here on behalf of the Butterworth branch. You don’t want tension between both branches.” Morris looked at things from a wider perspective. Edmund believed Kaze was just a doormat of little importance. “You just overthink things, and it’s not good for your age. You’re getting senile.” Edmund did not take Morris’ advice seriously. He believed he was right. “You’re not getting it. Kaze is from Butterworth. Even if he doesn’t hold a high position there, we were in the wrong. We did not keep our tracks clean either. “Now that he’s back, I’m worried that he’ll cause us harm.” Morris was only giving a heads-up because the whole branch was at stake. Edmund was young. Due to his lack of judgmen

“We should be generous to our guest from Butterworth. You can arrange as you see fit. Please don’t house him in a messy home. Hire cleaners to tidy up the place. “You can report back to me if you need more money, but it’s not a reason for you to misuse the funds.” Herman wanted to hang up. The money was now in Dwight’s bank account, so he was washing his hands off the matter. The plan was to keep Kaze happy. He was just an insignificant member of the Butterworth branch anyway. The whole thing would blow over soon enough, so long as Kaze kept to himself without taking things too far. Herman would figure out a way to get him out quickly anyway. Maybe Herman and his friends did not have to do anything to get rid of Kaze. “Got it. I’ll be a good host, Herman. I won’t let you down. I’ll keep you in the loop.” Dwight was over the moon to get the notification about the money transfer. “Just play by ear and arrange what you see best.” Herman hung up and continued playing pok

“It’s becoming a hassle now. Are you going to inform the Viper’s Den about the change of accommodation?” After much hesitation, Kaze nodded to take up the offer. Dwight was thrilled. It only hit Dwight that he had to communicate with the Viper’s Den. Kaze was booked for a hotel stay, and Dwight’s job was to take him to the destination. Yet now, Dwight took him to his home. “I’ll tell my superior and see what he has to say.” Dwight was not sure whether the change was appropriate. Nevertheless, he did not want to pass up on a great opportunity. He simply grabbed the bull by the horn. If Kaze stayed at his place, the Viper’s Den members had to respect Kaze’s request even if they had a problem with it. “But when they ask, you can say that you’re getting along well with me. Living together just makes work more convenient.” Feeling unsettled, Dwight tried to get their stories straight with Kaze. Hopefully, the Viper’s Den would not come after them. “Aren’t we friends? Dwight gave some suggestions. “But I’m worried about being a nuisance to your family.” Kaze remained hesitant, torn between decisions. “No, you won’t. I usually live alone. They stay somewhere else. They barely visit. I’ll just let them know not to visit for now,” Dwight replied. Dwight figured out what was in it for him. He could not let Kaze leave. “I don’t want to put your family in an awkward position.”Kaze was still considering the matter. “Relax. They don’t live with me anyway. The room I have for you is tidy. No one has stayed there before.“I’ll hire some help to freshen up the place. I can guarantee you an experience no less than at the hotel.” Dwight spoke with great confidence. “We should finish our food and doggie-bag the rest. I’ll take you to my place.” Dwight was ready to get things going. Kaze took the offer and nodded. “I’ll be in your care then.” Kaze was glad that his plan went through. Dwight had no idea that he got played. Nevertheless,

“I’m new to the place, so I don’t know much. Can you show me around when you’re available?” “No problem, but I usually have some stuff to take care of. I can’t be there 24/7. “Why don’t you propose to the branch that you want me to be your guide and attendant?” Dwight suggested. There was no telling whether Kaze would accept his proposal, but it was an opportunity to prove himself. He was never involved in the core operation. Often enough, he was the branch members’ punching bag. Though Dwight was aware that he was not good enough for the big stuff, he still wanted to succeed. Kaze was the trusted aide of the Butterworth Branch chief. He was in Westeros for a reason. By joining Kaze, Dwight would come across the major players. Kaze saw through Dwight’s plans. “Sure. I’ll do that.” Kaze did not mind the request. “Great. I’ll let them know on your behalf. I’ll be responsible for your needs while in the city.” Dwight was overjoyed at the opportunity. “So you live

Dwight’s angry screams came from outside. “What the hell is this? I only ordered a bunch of stuff. Why am I being charged an exorbitant amount?“What do you mean my friend is paying for everybody? That’s throwing money away,” Dwight said while storming his way over. “I know you have money, but you shouldn’t do this, Mr. Lee.” Dwight did not approve of this type of generosity. “You rubbed them the wrong way. It was only right to apologize. Besides, it’s not a lot of money.” Kaze looked at the bill and handed a bank card to Dwight. “It’s my treat.” The consumption was barely a dent in Kaze’s savings. The meal did not cost more than his us
