CHAPTER 44

We were driving for about half an hour till we reached Crompton area. Crompton area is not like any type of area, it is surrounded by old buildings and old mills and other odd looking things. The only good thing about this place is that, its near to the private wharf here in Chicago, where private business man's do their trading or receive their shipments.
We entered the gravel road and then I pointed to the deserted road on Shane's left, where the shortcut is to get faster to the wharf. I've been here before back when I was just a teen. Dad used to take me along with him to collect any shipments that came for his business, so we always used this shortcut.
"Are you sure this is the right way?" Shane asked while glancing outside his window.

Nicole "Doctor Chung I need you now!" I yelled out as soon as I stumbled through the house, while helping Shane inside by holding on to one of his arms and calling out to the mafia doctor that works for us, who helps in the infirmary. The Asian doctor rushed out of the infirmary room and helped Shane by also grabbing his other arm and then we both dragged him inside the infirmary room. The rest of the mafia members slowly trailed along behind us while Sofia tried to help Cameron inside the house, while Jackson and Toby assist the other members that were also injured. "We need to put him in one of the beds." Doctor Chung suddenly informed and we both helped Shane lay down on the first bed that came into my sight.

Nicole "Are you sure you're gonna be okay cam?" Sofia pat Cameron's shoulder gently and they both smiled back at me. We were still in the infirmary, getting Cameron's arm fixed while Sofia sat next to him. "I'm going to be fine Nicole. Don't worry about me. Plus, I have Sofia to take care of me now." He replied and glance back at Sofia while smiling back at her and grabbing her hand and kissed the back of it. My eyes slowly widen in realization and I held back the urge to squeal in excitement. "Oh my god! What-? When did this happen?" I asked while pointing back and forth between them. They both chuckled and then smiled up at me.

NicoleI woke up the next morning and sat on my bed for awhile and stared at the upcoming sun that was peaking out of the horizon, just outside my floor to ceiling window.I didn't get much sleep last night. Well it was not something new that I have to talk about almost everyday but this time it was sort of different. The nightmares I've been having before had stopped for a while but it came back last night.This time, I was not stuck in the interrogation room and getting tortured over and over again by sienna. The nightmare I had last night showed me that I was standing in a field full of sunflowers, hugging Shane and when we pulled back from the embrace, blood was seeping through his white crisp shirt that he was wearing.

Nicole"Well nice to see you too darling. Now will you invite me in or will you keep me standing out here while staring at me as if you've never seen me for years." He responded sarcastically."Sorry you just surprised me I guess. Come on in." I stepped to the side while motioning for him to come in and he did while looking around inside. I quickly glanced at his two bodyguards that were still standing outside before closing the door.I looked back at my father and folded my arms across my chest."So, what brings you here?" He looked back at me as if I just asked him to recite a poem."What? I should not check up on my daughter and see how she's doing?" I sighed whil

*ONE MONTH LATER*Nicole"Nic you busy?" I looked up from my computer and smiled at Jackson who was standing on the doorway of Shane's office."Not really. Cmon in." He walked in and closed the door behind him, then sat down in front of the table."So we have this regular checkups we do every month, where we go around and see how things are going at all of our workplaces, warehouses, clubs and other places. So today is that day and since Shane is still in a coma, you're in charge of that as well."I leaned back on the comfortable black leather chair and sighed out loud."Seriously?" He wags a finger

Nicole "Where to now?" I asked Jackson the minute we stepped out of the nightclub. "Our main underground fighting arena. It's not far, just a couple of blocks away from here." He replied while walking by my side, as we all approached the parked vehicles. "So we're only checking out the main places for today?" He shrugged while opening the passenger's door for me. "Just two places for today and then we're done." I smiled at him and then got into the car while he shuts the door behind me. We started driving to the place where Shane named 'The Lions Cave' where he held illegal underground fights and placed bets for his fighters.

NicoleI jumped out of the car the minute i pulled up in front of the house, and ran inside and yelled for Sofia."Where's Sofia?! Where the hell is she?" I yelled out in frustration the minute I saw Cameron walking down the stairs with a frown on his face."Woah calm down Nicole. What is going on with you?" I ran up to him and grabbed one of his arm after making sure that it was the one that wasn't injured."Cameron where's Sofia? Is Shane alright? What is going on?!" He placed a hand on my shoulder while telling me to calm down over again."Relax alright? Now tell me what's wrong?" I ran past him heading up the stairs while ignoring his shouts from below.

Nicole"Shane?" I knocked on his bedroom door and then pushed it open while looking in. I frowned when I saw him standing in front of the long body length mirror with his back turned towards it while staring over his shoulder at the long scar on the middle of his back where the bullet had hit him.I walked in and then closed the door behind me and wrapped my arms around him. He looked at me with a small smile on his face and then went back to staring at his back on the mirror."What are you thinking about?" I asked softly while tracing one finger on the scar."Just thinking how doc did a pretty good job on my back. Now every time I will take my shirt off. I'll always be reminded why I had that scar."
