Chapter 3: Chapter Three: Dad, I'm Sorry

Phoebe Conrad returned to the apartment, her temper flaring at the sight of the chaotic living room.

"Maria Conrad, get out here now!"

"Toby, that's Big Phoebe's favorite dress, don't bite it!"

Immediately after, Phoebe Conrad saw Toby running out with her favorite blue dress on its head, followed by Maria Conrad. "Ah, Big Phoebe, you're back! Look at Toby, it's so naughty, it's tearing the house apart. If I hadn't stopped it, it might have even torn down your room!"

Phoebe Conrad strode forward and twisted Maria Conrad's ear. "You little brat! Do you think I'm an idiot? Toby is a Tibetan Mastiff, not a Husky! Tearing the house apart? You have half an hour to clean up, or I'll call Eugene Woolley and have him take you abroad to debut as a star."

"Big Phoebe, beautiful Ruan, I was wrong, please forgive me this once. It's enough for my little sister to be poisoned by Eugene Woolley. Putting me in the spotlight every day would be worse than death." If she could fight Eugene Woolley or outsmart her mom in hacking, she wouldn't have let her little sister go on that tour. Her sister was so adorable, loved by so many, and who knows, she might get snatched away one day.

"And you, Toby, if you help her again, I'll cut off your favorite dog food." Toby was a retired police dog, and Maria Conrad had taken a liking to it at first sight, going through great lengths to obtain the adoption rights. However, when Toby first arrived, it often took the blame for Maria Conrad's mischief.

Hearing Phoebe Conrad's words, Toby pulled the dress off its head and quietly retreated to Maria Conrad's side, turning its head away.

"Toby, you traitor, how could you betray me!"

"Stop talking nonsense. I'm going to take a shower. If the room isn't cleaned up when I come out, I'll pack you off to Eugene Woolley." With that, Phoebe Conrad left the living room.

"Traitor, Toby!" Maria Conrad gritted her teeth as she tidied up the living room, while Toby slowly put its toys back into its box.

Whether from anger or a delusion, Maria Conrad felt that Toby's eyes were filled with disdain and a hint of accusation, making her feel inexplicably guilty. But it wasn't without reason; after all, Maria Conrad had thrown out Toby's toys to frame it!

While things were somewhat peaceful here, Samuel Vaughan was not having an easy time.

After being brought home by Lambert Vaughan's assistant, he locked himself in his room, refusing to communicate with anyone. The butler checked on him several times, but Samuel Vaughan just sat on his bed, ignoring everyone. During this period, Gloria Vaughan did not come to see Samuel Vaughan once.

The butler had watched Samuel Vaughan grow up, and in his heart, Samuel Vaughan was like his own grandson. Since childhood, Samuel Vaughan had never been close to others.

Back then, Gloria Vaughan brought Samuel Vaughan to the Vaughan residence, claiming he was Lambert Vaughan's child. The old lady had a paternity test done, confirming that he was indeed Lambert Vaughan's son, and so Lambert Vaughan married Gloria Vaughan.

However, the butler could clearly sense that Gloria Vaughan never treated the young master like a mother should. Lambert Vaughan, due to his personality, didn't know how to interact with children, and since the young master rarely spoke, the two of them got along like enemies.

"Young Master, you haven't eaten anything all day. Your body can't handle this."

Samuel Vaughan buried himself under the covers, saying nothing.

The butler shook his head helplessly and walked out.

"What, he still won't open the door?" Lambert Vaughan removed his tie and handed his suit to a maid.

"Yes, Young Master, what happened to the little master? He just stopped throwing up, and now he's not eating or drinking. I'm afraid his stomach won't be able to take it." The butler knew that Lambert Vaughan cared about the little master, just not good at showing it.

"Where is Gloria Vaughan?" Lambert Vaughan's face was cold; Samuel Vaughan was pushing his limits.

"The lady hasn't returned yet." The butler never liked Gloria Vaughan, always two-faced, good at pleasing the old lady and pretending to be virtuous in front of the young master.

"Her own son is in such a state, and she's still so calm!" Lambert Vaughan never liked Gloria Vaughan. If it weren't for the pressure from Samuel Vaughan and his mother, he would never have married such a woman.

"Young Master, should I call..."

"No need, I'll go see him." Lambert Vaughan went to Samuel Vaughan's room, using a spare key to enter. He saw Samuel Vaughan shattering a vase and picking up a piece of ceramic.

"Samuel Vaughan! What are you doing? Do you want to die?" Seeing Samuel Vaughan's actions, Lambert Vaughan's anger surged.

"Dad, I want Mom!" Samuel Vaughan held the ceramic shard, his small face resolute.

"Hello? Get home in fifteen minutes!"

Lambert Vaughan called Gloria Vaughan, but Samuel Vaughan shook his head frantically, "No, no, not her!"

"I want... Mom from the hospital!"

"Otherwise..." Samuel Vaughan pressed the shard hard against his wrist.

"Fine, very good. This is my son, Lambert Vaughan, threatening his father for a woman! Samuel Vaughan, I tell you, if you dare to harm yourself, I will make that woman disappear forever! Don't believe me, try it!"

Samuel Vaughan knew Lambert Vaughan always kept his word. He weakly dropped the shard to the floor. The butler quickly rushed over, carried Samuel Vaughan to the bed, and ordered the maids to clean up the broken pieces.

Samuel Vaughan sat on the bed, tears streaming down like broken beads. He must find that person, he must.

Two days later, Samuel Vaughan realized that confronting Lambert Vaughan directly was not the solution. With his father's power, he could definitely find out the identity and location of that person. So, after Lambert Vaughan came home from work, Samuel Vaughan went to his study.

"Dad, I'm sorry." Samuel Vaughan lowered his head, speaking softly to Lambert Vaughan, who was reading.

Lambert Vaughan raised an eyebrow. He knew his son well; Samuel Vaughan had never said sorry to anyone before.

"What are you sorry for?"

"Sorry, I... threatened, Dad."

"Dad, take me to see... the hospital, Mom." Samuel Vaughan struggled to finish, looking at Lambert Vaughan with hope.

"What is it about that woman that attracts you so much, to make you beg me like this?" Lambert Vaughan had already investigated Phoebe Conrad. He was surprised to find out that she was Gloria Vaughan's cousin, and because of the connection to Gloria Vaughan, his opinion of her plummeted.

"Because..." Before Samuel Vaughan could finish, he swayed and fainted on the floor.

Lambert Vaughan noticed Samuel Vaughan's pale face and quickly picked him up, instructing the butler to call the family doctor.

The doctor examined Samuel Vaughan and told Lambert Vaughan that it was just low blood sugar. He needed some glucose and regular meals.

When Samuel Vaughan woke up, he saw Lambert Vaughan sitting beside his bed, his face cold. Samuel Vaughan lowered his gaze, biting his lip and staying silent.

"Will you stop hurting yourself if I take you to see her?"

Hearing Lambert Vaughan's words, Samuel Vaughan's eyes lit up immediately.
