Chapter 3

Penulis: Mountain River
It took everything I had to drag the two suitcases down the stairs.

I could hear Damian's scoffing comment from behind me.

"I never know what she's thinking… Does she really think she can get whatever she wants by acting out like this? Don't tell me she'll come back crying after three days because she can't handle it!"

I didn't know when, but the sky had turned gray. Cold rain battered the windows.

I originally wanted to grab an umbrella, but Damian's words were so hurtful I could hardly breathe. In the end, I left without the umbrella, stepping straight into the pouring rain. The downpour was so strong that it soaked me completely in seconds. Rain blurred my vision, turning the road ahead into a hazy smear.

Damian chased after me, his voice cutting through the rain, his tone commanding.

"Listen, Seraphina. There's still time to turn back. As long as you promise never to hurt Vivian again, we can still treat you as a younger sister."

I looked up, my voice shaking but resolute, "But I'm your fated mate, Damian! I was never just your sister!"

My words seemed to enrage him. His face went cold. "You're still clinging to that lie, even now? You really disappointed me, Seraphina!"

I couldn't tell if the water on my face was rain or tears. Beneath my soaked coat, the scabbed wounds on my arms were torn open again, blood seeping through. It was the scar from the day I tumbled down the stairs with Vivian as I tried to catch her as she fell.

But I felt nothing, just numbness.

I gripped my suitcases and walked on, step by step. I didn't know where I was going, only that I had to leave.

"Seraphina!" Vivian's voice, choked with tears, called after me. She came running out, ready to put on another show of innocence and kindness.

Damian's voice, filled with urgency, followed. "Get back inside! You're still sick! You'll only make it worse by going into the rain!"

For a second, I almost thought he was worried about me. But then, he shattered that last illusion.

"Ethan, tell the maid to make Vivian something hot and get her a blanket."

I tried to curl my lips into a smile, but it looked more like a grimace than anything else. My vision began to darken. Maybe it was the sleepless night. Or maybe it was the freezing rain.

My legs buckled, and just as I was about to collapse, a strong arm caught me. Suddenly, the downpour above my head vanished. I looked up with effort, and only after a moment did I realize who it was.

It was Leo, my senior.

His car was parked right there in the rain, headlights shining through the storm warmly. Without a word, he took my suitcases and loaded them into the trunk.

Damian stood at the door, sneering. His voice was somehow trembling with suppressed anger, "So this is why you left so easily. You've already found a backup plan. You're so promiscuous!"

I never expected Leo to show up. He must have come just to see how bad I messed things up. Leo's eyes flashed with anger as he took in my soaked clothes and bleeding arm.

"Why are you still hung up on a mate like him?" he said indignantly. "You're leaving in a few days, anyway…"

I cut him off quickly, panic in my voice, "Leo! That's enough!"

I couldn't let Leo continue. Otherwise, Damian would just see my heartbreak as a staged act.

Leo fell silent, then opened the car door and pushed me inside the warm interior. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Damian's expression turn dark as he walked forward.

"Leo, what's the meaning of this?"

Leo shot him a cold glare and scoffed, "What do I mean? You'll figure it out soon enough in a few days. For now, get out of my way."

My heart skipped a beat.

Damian just stood there, as if he couldn't process what was happening. Only when the engine started did he suddenly lunge forward, grabbing at the door on my side.

However, Leo had already locked it.

Through the rain-splattered window, I could barely make out Damian's tightly furrowed brows and his desperation.

"Seraphina, get out of the car!"

His face was twisted in anger, but there was something else I couldn't quite decipher.

Even so, I didn't want to try to understand it anymore.

By now, me leaving meant nothing to him.

I closed my eyes, refusing to look back.

Damian's calls came through almost immediately, but I didn't hesitate to switch off my phone.

Maybe it was time for a new number—and a new life.

  • He Believed Her Lies; Now He'll Never Hear My Truth   Chapter 10

Leo and I held our Mating Ceremony the second year after I left the training facility. We had a lovely daughter, and on her first birthday, we threw a grand celebration for her. When the party was over and I walked out to see the last guests off, I caught sight of two familiar yet distant figures standing under the trees. It was Damian and Ethan. That year, I was thirty-four, and they were both nearly forty.Damian sat in a specially made wheelchair. He was no longer exuding any trace of an Alpha's aura. His Wolf Soul… It was so weak, it looked ready to fade at any moment.I was a little surprised, and couldn't help but look again. They must have been standing there a long time, but they didn't have the bravery to come any closer. Sensing my gaze, a glimmer of joy flashed in their eyes.Ethan hurried over, pushing the wheelchair.Only then did I notice that they were holding gifts. Ethan nervously handed me a gift box. "This is for your daughter. I hope… I hope she'll like it.

When I finally left the training facility, a full decade had passed. For ten long years, I devoted myself completely to researching ways to heal wounded Wolf Souls. I eventually developed a new soul therapy—a breakthrough that could mend Wolf Souls on the brink of collapse, whether from mate rejection or loss.At the Pack Healer Conference, I presented my findings to the world. Countless werewolves in the audience who had endured the same pain wept with relief and joy. That day marked exactly a decade since I had been publicly rejected. A decade since my soul had nearly shattered. It was as if time had come full circle—only now, I was no longer the helpless woman I once was.I had healed myself with my own hands and given others like me a new hope for salvation.I accepted congratulations from my peers and answered questions from the press.Suddenly, my eyes met two pairs of familiar ones. Across the crowded hall, I saw Damian and Ethan standing in the distance. After a decade,

Damian didn't have the courage to return home anymore.Even he didn't know where he was supposed to go.He just drove aimlessly through the city streets, the neon lights outside the window muddling into a blur of colors, just like his chaotic thoughts.Without even realizing it, he ended up outside the old, rundown orphanage on the city's outskirts. This was where it had all begun. He suddenly remembered it. The rift between him and Seraphina had started the day he brought Vivian back to the pack.If he could turn back time… If he had never met Vivian… What would things be like now?His mind was a haze.By the pale moonlight, he saw two figures arguing outside the orphanage's locked gates. Even in the darkness, he immediately recognized Vivian. The other was a male werewolf… Obviously a rogue werewolf that had been expelled by his Pack, judging by his tainted aura.Damian was so unfocused, he had forgotten to turn on his headlights. The two didn't notice his approach at all.

Damian opened his mouth, but it took a long time before he managed to say something. His tone was dry, devoid of emotion. He seemed to be trying to comfort himself, and perhaps convince Ethan. "She…she'll come back. She's not a child anymore. She won't get lost."Ethan's eyes reddened, the mist of grief hardening into hatred. He suddenly grabbed Damian by the collar, his trembling hands straining as his veins popped. "It was Leo! I checked the flight records. They left together! The day after you took Vivian to Sanctum Peak!"Ethan's voice trembled even more; his grip tightened until Damian could barely breathe."Do you get it? She left with Leo! Don't you know who Leo is, and why he's joining that closed-door training?"Damian was gasping for air, but couldn't even bother to struggle. After the wave of fear and despair, he was left utterly lost. How could he not know what Leo was up to?That advanced Healer retreat… The list of names had passed through the Pack's Elders' Cou

The other end of the line fell silent for a long time, leaving only a quiet sigh and the beeping signaling the end of the call. Skylar's words echoed endlessly in the empty bedroom like a curse. At that moment, Damian's world was shattered. What did Skylar mean by…there was no telling when she would be back? His mind went blank. After a long time, he picked up his phone with trembling hands and dialed again. "I don't understand… I don't understand a single word you just said…"On the other end, Skylar's voice was stern. "Alpha Damian, that advanced Healer's closed-door training is meant for werewolves who have no more ties left in this world. Some have been rejected by their mates, and some have lost their mates permanently. That decade of solitude is the last salvation for their broken souls."Seraphina… She only managed to get a spot after you rejected her in front of everyone. She did it for you, Damian. She told me you found your soul mate in Vivian. She said this was the

"Damian, can we stay a few more days?" Vivian held on to Damian's arm, acting coy.Damian snapped back to reality, instinctively wanting to refuse. He just wanted to get back to the Silvermoon Pack as soon as possible. The unease he had been feeling had tightened itself around his heart, making it hard to breathe. It had only been seven days, but it felt like a century had passed. As he was searching for an excuse, Ethan said coolly, "If you want to spend more time here, we can come again next time. There are things back in the pack that I need to settle, so I have to go."When she heard what Ethan had to say, Vivian argued back. She was annoyed at having her fun interrupted."You told Seraphina before that nothing else matters before the Mating Ceremony!"Ethan froze a little, saying nothing more. He stared at the frozen lake outside the window, guilt flickering in his eyes. After a while, he frowned and deliberately changed the subject. "I've said it before, don't compare eve
