**I was alone. The darkness hugged everything around me like a warm blanket. I knew there was no one here. Only the sound of my raspy breaths echoed in the darkness, I had no clue about where I was. Beads of sweat started rolling down my neck. I gulped and threw my arms around to feel my surroundings, I felt a rough surface underneath my fingertips. I kept on following it. I was in a room. Still keeping my hands on the wall I let it guide me to what I hoped was a door. I licked my dry lips, to provide some moisture to them. I gulped and did not make a sound. What if the wrong person heard my sound? The fear was making me move like a mouse in that dark room. I was already scared and the thought that someone else could be present in the room was not providing any comfort to me. I had to use my head if I wanted to survive. The room was not big just after six steps I could feel another wall. I started following it immediately, trying to find the door. But luck was not on m
Dreams. They were not meaningless, we just had to find the hidden meaning behind them, that's what my mother used to say. My mother had given up hope of ever having children but then she started seeing a baby in her dreams. It was a hope she needed, she was sure she would have a child and then I came into the picture. She used to call me her miracle baby...I wanted to laugh at it now. But unlike her dreams, my dreams were not happy. They were not filled with rainbows and butterflies they were filled with dead people and blood. A sigh escaped from my lips, I could not get the nightmare out of my head. Whenever I closed my eyes, I could still see the dead bodies lying on the ground...those children. "Are you okay?" Bernadette was staring at me with a worried look. I gave her a smile, "I am fine.""Are you sure? You look...tired?."I observed her, she was sitting in front of me wearing sweatpants and a tank top with popcorn between her arms. She was taking a break from her duties,
The ticking sound of the clock filled the emptiness of my room. It was mocking me..it was mocking my inability to leave the place.I still had no idea about the red moon or what Alpha Orion was planning. For some reason, my mind went straight to one person...Flora. The girl I found near the river, I did not know why but there was something about her that made me want to spill everything to her...all the things I could never imagine telling a soul. Those were her words that gave me the strength to talk to Alpha Orion for the first time. It was her because of whom I was able to speak in front of Alpha Orion. I could not leave the mansion but it did not mean I had to stay in the room. With all the thoughts inside my head, I started walking aimlessly out of the room. The walls, the hallways everything was a reminder that I did not belong there. People were not bothered by my presence anymore, at first they were curious...but with time I became someone who just lived in the mansi
Time was running out. Red moon was approaching fast....just two months and I had no idea about it. I knew nothing about the stories except for the one told by Bernadette. The story she told me...had many flaws. Werewolves were not weak, they could defend themselves. A pack no matter how peaceful they were... could have protected themselves. Someone should have survived. I glanced at the clock...it was 10 am. I had to wait for another hour. I knew Bernadette's routine by heart...she would leave in almost an hour for the pack visit. The more days I spent in the pack..the better I understood why this pack was strong and working so smoothly. Everything was planned.......planned by Alpha Orion. He had his eyes and ears everywhere. He had given the duty of keeping an eye on me to Bernadette, they both were sure I would not leave the mansion without asking the Alpha. Especially after what happened yesterday...I knew Alpha was looking at me, he was checking if I would leave the mansio
The tension in the dining room was thick enough to be cut with a knife easily. Everyone could sense it. It was the first time I was having dinner in the dining room with everyone else. Alpha Orion was sitting at the chair which clearly belonged to him at the corner, on the other end, Luca was sitting. They both seemed to be busy in their glaring battle.Bernadette had asked me to have my meals here but I always refused knowing well it was not my place.I was sitting on the left side of Alpha Orion while on his right Bernadette was sitting, who kept passing me comfortable smiles in between. Next to me was Chelsea. No one was saying a word as the dinner was being served. Everyone could sense the weirdness in the air. I wanted to ask Luca so many questions but I could not do that in front of everyone."How have you been, Ruhee?" Luca initiated the conversation by breaking the awkward silence which I did not know was a good idea as all the eyes were now on me, waiting for the answer.
"You do not have to pretend anymore, Luca is not here. You can stop the car and I will walk back to your house."We were in a car going somewhere. I did not know Alpha Orion would take this so seriously. Luca went to see the pack with Bernadette while I was sitting in a car with Alpha Orion. I was still waiting for my chance to talk to Luca alone, something which was not possible as long as Alpha was with me. He must be thinking I would tell Luca everything about us. "Why would I do anything for the King's stepbrother?" Alpha Orion's eyes were fixed on the road which was almost empty with trees on either side of the road. I kept on wondering where this road would lead us to. There were no boards or anything that could give me a hint. I had no clue if we were going out of the pack or if we were still in the pack. "You saved his life," I commented. He gave me a side look and then turned his eyes back on the road without saying anything else. "I know exactly what you are doing.""
"Alpha," a middle-aged woman wearing a floral maxi dress with a teal colored cardigan on the top came out to greet Alpha Orion. Her head was low while greeting in a soft voice as a bunch of children surrounded Alpha in no time. "How are you, Lenna?""I am fine, thank you," her head was still in the same position as she answered. Who was she?Who were these children?I watched the children of different age groups greet Alpha Orion with huge smiles on their faces. Alpha Orion seemed to be lost in his own world as well around them while I stood awkwardly watching them like a creep feeling out of place."Children, let Alpha enter the house first," the lady said softly but there was an authority in her voice. All the children at once listened to her. The toddler who hugged the Alpha did not leave his hand and started pulling him with all his strength saying something about showing him his new art."I am Lenna," the lady was now looking at me with her hands joined together in front of her
Who was Alpha Orion? The cruel Alpha who murdered people with no mercy just to take over the packs or the loving Alpha who looked after his people and for whom people had love and respect in their hearts? It was a question that was killing me.The journey was mostly silent, I was trying to get my head wrapped around the new side of Alpha. After Lenna returned I quickly apologized for earlier. Maybe she was right, maybe there was a piece of the puzzle that was not on the board yet. Or maybe she did not know the true side of Alpha. I had heard about him in the palace when he was taking over the packsIf the royal family had called him merciless, he was not a saint for sure. Spending time with those children turned out to be better than I was expecting. We read stories and played, one hour passed without even realising. Alpha Orion was different there, he was not just a cold and heartless Alpha who could scare someone with just his intimidating look. He was warm and he looked....ha
