KENDRICK’S POV

"Did you just call me old?"

The words exploded out of me before I could stop them.

My fingers curled so tight into the edge of the table I was half-convinced I’d leave splinters in the wood.

My pulse pounded in my temples, hot and blinding, and for a moment, all I could see was red. I wanted to cross the room, rip him off her lap, and remind everyone in this damn house exactly who she belonged to.

But I didn’t move.

I stayed rooted to my chair, locked in place by some last shred of self-control, even as every muscle in my body screamed at me to act.

He didn’t even flinch. Just looked at me—wide-eyed, calm, and completely unbothered. Like I was the child in the room.

“Uncle,” he said slowly, like I needed help understanding, “you’re being loud. I don't think Pretty lady doesn’t like loud.”
