Chapter 5
REBECCA’S POV
Felix's hand trembled as he picked up the divorce papers, his knuckles turning white.
"You're lying," he said through gritted teeth. "You're bluffing, Rebecca."
I tilted my head, my expression calm.
"Why would I bluff?"
Anna's hand tightened around Felix’s arm, her fake innocence slipping for just a second.
She was scared.
She knew that if I walked away, she’d be left with nothing but a man who was as useless as he was heartless.
My smirk grew even wider as I stepped closer to him. "All these years, the reason Sterling Fashion House has thrived is because of my inheritance. Felix Sterling, you are nothing without me."
Crack.
The force sent me stumbling back. A sharp sting exploded across my cheek.
My ears rang. The room spun.
I tasted blood.
Did he just slap me?
Slowly, I turned back to him. Felix’s chest heaved, his eyes dark with rage.
But behind it, there was something else.
Fear.
He was losing control. And he knew it.
My lips curled. And before he could say another word—
Smack.
My palm met his cheek with brutal force as Anna's gasps filled the air.
"Re...Rebecca, have you lost your mind? Why would you do something like this?" Anna stuttered as she rushed toward Felix, who stumbled back, shock evident in his eyes.
He wasn't expecting that, was he?
"Did you just hit me?" Felix asked, his eyes filled with disbelief as he started panting.
I took the pen from the table and rolled it toward Felix.
"Sign it," I said, my voice steady and emotionless. "Or don’t. Either way, it's done."
Felix’s nostrils flared, but his fingers hesitated over the papers. For the first time, doubt flickered in his eyes.
I turned toward the door. "I'll have my lawyer handle the rest."
"Rebecca," Felix called, his voice still filled with anger, but beneath it, I caught a hint of something else—something close to desperation.
All these years, I had dimmed my light just to be the perfect wife, supporting my husband’s dream to fulfill my parents' last wish. But no more.
"I won’t let you leave," Felix finally said, his face set in determination.
"That’s right. What kind of mother abandons her son because of her pride?" Anna added sharply, tugging at Felix’s arm. He nodded in response.
My lips parted slightly, and then I halted.
"Mommy?"
My breath caught in my throat.
He still called me "Mommy." He was sick, weak, shivering.
But all I could see was him running into Anna’s arms, calling her his "new mommy."
I was dead to him the moment she arrived.
The pain twisted deep in my chest, but I swallowed it down. I would not be weak. Not again.
"Mommy, hurry up. Go make the medicine. I can't hold on much longer," he cried, his fingers running over the sides of his arms as he shivered.
I should have run to his aid like I always did. But he abandoned me first.
I let out a scoff as I crouched to his level, resting my elbows on my lap for support, then grinned.
"Young Master William Sterling, you should go ask your new mother to take care of you."
"Aunt Anna doesn’t have the recipe. Give it to her since you can’t do it."
Such an authoritative tone. Like father, like son.
I tapped my finger against his cheek, and he cried out in pain.
"It seems I failed to discipline you properly, even though the heavens know I did my best. But it’s alright," I said, my voice trailing off as I flicked my gaze toward Anna and Felix.
"I’m sure your new parents will take good care of you," I spat, loosening my grip on his cheek.
"You're an evil witch! Aunt Anna was right about you!" Will burst into tears and rushed toward Anna, who received him with open arms.
"Now that the new family is complete, I’ll take my leave." I turned on my heels.
"Hold on!" Felix yelled, stepping in front of me.
"Since you insist on leaving, you are not allowed to take any property. That includes the car I got you. All of it."
I clicked my tongue. The same car he bought using my fortune?
I crossed my arms over my chest. "Fine."
I turned to leave, but Felix clamped his hand around my wrist.
"I told you—you can’t take anything I got you. That includes the clothes you’re wearing. I bought them for you." His eyes glimmered with satisfaction, daring me to react.
But I wasn’t going to give him the pleasure. I forced a smile.
"If that’s what you want."
reached for the buttons, undoing them one by one, slowly.
Felix’s smirk faltered. The satisfaction in his eyes flickered—turning into something else.
Unease.
Good.
I let the dress slip from my shoulders, pooling at my feet.
Silence.
I stood tall, my chin high, watching the way Felix suddenly couldn’t meet my eyes.
He expected humiliation. But I gave him indifference.
“Are you satisfied?” I asked. My voice was calm. Cold. Dead.
Felix didn’t answer but his eyes widened in disbelief. "Rebecca, are you out of your mind?"
"Maybe." I tightened my jaw, my eyes burning with rage.
"I told myself I wouldn’t cross certain lines because of our past. But today, Mr. Sterling, you went too far—so don’t blame me for what happens next."
Felix’s gaze swept over me, his brows locked in tension.
"What do you mean?"
My smile grew into something sinister, and I noticed the way his face went pale.
"Watch your back."
I slid the wedding ring off my finger—the ring I had held onto for far too long—lifted it toward Felix, then let it crash to the floor.
"This is going to be a bumpy ride."
I walked down the steps of the Sterling mansion, inhaling the crisp air of my freedom.
I wasn’t Rebecca Sterling anymore.
I was Rebecca Belmont.
And it was time to remind the world who I really was—Felix Sterling included.
Suddenly, the sound of a vehicle pulling up beside me made me stop in my tracks.
I turned toward the car. The glass window lowered, revealing Jessica.
"Oh my Godness. Thank God I followed you here." she exclaimed, a hand over her mouth.
"I knew that bastard was a moron, but letting you leave half-naked? That’s too much." She shook her head in disgust.
She turned to someone beside her. "Hurry up and cover her before she catches a cold!"
The other side of the car door flung open. I squinted, realizing it was that strange man I had met in the meeting room.
He draped his coat over me, and I felt a strange flutter in my stomach. As he adjusted the collar, his fingers sent an unexpected tingle down my neck.
Instinctively, I stepped back. "Who’s this?" I asked, turning to Jessica.
Jessica sighed. "You really don’t remember him? That’s my brother—Kendrick."
I turned toward the man, eyeing him with suspicion. He had grown so much—he was even taller than me now.
"It’s nice to see you again, Rebecca," Kendrick said, extending his hand.
I ignored it and turned to Jessica. "I need you to take me somewhere."
Jessica arched a brow. "What are you going to do?"
I stood there for a moment, my expression blank.
"Retribution."
Then, slowly—I smiled. A smile that promised war.
"It’s time to take back what’s mine."
ANNA’S POVMy phone beeped, and I snatched it off the bed in a heartbeat. My heart leapt with hope—it had to be Felix. He’d been avoiding me all day. Not a word. Not even after that board meeting he wouldn’t shut up about last week. That wasn’t like him.Sure, he used to get angry, but he never pushed me away. That smug-faced vixen. It's all her fault. My jaw clenched as her calm, arrogant expression flashed through my mind. Rebecca. Always so composed. Always playing innocent.I tapped the message open—and for a second, I felt dizzy. No… no, this couldn’t be real.I blinked. Once. Twice. My chest tightened as my eyes locked on the image on the screen.“Kendrick Reyes of Reyes Corporation meets with Rebecca.”I couldn’t breathe. My fingers trembled as I zoomed in on the picture. Rebecca was in his arms. In the middle of a damn board meeting. And the way he looked at her—soft, close, intimate.Too intimate.I wanted to scream.“That cursed bitch…” I hissed through clenched teeth. “W
KENDRICK'S POV"Boss, if Miss Belmont finds out, she won't be very happy with what you did," Lewis grumbled. The way his mouth twitched to the side was like he was trying to be pissed off with my decision. On what grounds?"Lewis, are you working with me or Miss Belmont?" I asked sharply."You," he mumbled with a deep frown."Good, so do what I asked and stop concerning yourself with matters that don't even concern you." I pointed out, and he gave an understanding nod.I watched as he turned away from me and started walking toward the door. My eyes followed him carefully, not sure if he was actually pissed off.I guess it's probably good he won't be close to Becca. I wouldn’t want him getting attached and then start questioning every decision I made when it came to Becca. But he was the only one I could trust for this job, and that meant he had to keep guarding Becca. That way I wouldn’t have to keep losing my mind.My phone buzzed on the table and my attention shifted toward it immed
KENDRICK'S POV"Moving out?" The words taunted me like a ghost refusing to leave my mind.I could feel the sting in my palm as I tried to breathe. Even though she told me the house belonged to her assistant, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was lying. My hands found their way to my tie and loosened it. I kicked off my shoes, falling back onto my bed. A deep exhale followed, and I pinched the space between my brows. The door opened and I turned to see Lewis coming inside. He stood a few paces from my bed with his hands behind his back.I picked myself up slowly and then crouched forward with my elbows on my knees. "What is it? Any news?"Lewis cleared his throat but no words came out for a moment. Then, noticing my eyes narrowing, he took a step backward and I shot my brows up."If you're going to stand there and make me wonder what’s going through your mind, then you might as well just leave." I sneered, turning back to lie down on my bed. "I already have enough to think abou
REBECCA'S POVMy fingers hovered over the trackpad, my eyes fixed on the screen in front of me as I scrolled through the file Alyssa had compiled. Surprisingly, she’s proven herself to be very useful and fast when it came to her job.My finger found its way between my teeth and I bit hard. Even though she told me that she and Derek had already settled in their new house, I couldn’t help but worry. Derek was still growing and he needed a conducive environment, and I didn’t think staying at a hotel was going to be enough.I stared hard at the apartment displayed on the screen. I let out a deep sigh and bit my thumb.“Will little Derek love to stay in a place like this?”“BECKY!” Jessica’s voice broke through my thoughts and I whipped my head instinctively toward her. A tender smile spread across my face as she ran toward me, still dressed in her court uniform. After I got back from the company, I was too exhausted to even do anything, so I locked myself inside my room.Well, a part o
REBECCA'S POVAs I sat there, pressed against the boardroom table, one question rang in my head: Was this actually hot, or was I just a sexually starved divorcée who hadn't been touched in months?“Mr. Reyes, I don’t think that’s… um… appropriate.”My voice trembled as my nails scraped against the table, desperate for something to ground me. I tried to pull in a steady breath, but his warm, rich scent filled my lungs, making it impossible to think straight. His fingers pressed harder against my lips, and my shoulders went rigid. Heat surged through me, Liquid heat spiraled low in my belly, my thighs instinctively pressing tight.“Earlier,” he murmured in a low tone, “you didn’t call me Mr. Reyes. Not in my office when you were trying to seduce me.”His fingers slipped from my mouth to wrap lightly around my neck. He guided me forward until our lips were so close I could feel the heat of his breath—but he didn’t close the final gap.“Did you?”My heart slammed wildly in my chest, thr
KENDRICK'S POVThey hurt her, so they all deserve it."What! You wouldn’t dare." Felix yelled at the top of his lungs. "You can’t just kill everyone here."I smirked. "There’s no problem money can’t solve."Becca tugged against my shirt, whispering. "What do you think you are doing?"I stared down at her and grinned. "I told you to stay still. I’ll handle it. Besides, I’m already involved so you can’t push me away."I drew my gun in one swift, practiced motion. The shot cracked like thunder through the room. A wave of shock rippled across the room. Their sharp intakes of breath shattered the silence. Felix’s lips parted, his eyes widening in terror as the bullet screamed past, burying itself in the concrete wall behind him with a dull, splintering crunch. Dust and fragments cascaded to the floor. His whole body trembled uncontrollably when he realized I was only toying with him. A low chuckle escaped my throat, curling around the sudden hush in the room, and the embarrassed flush o
