LOGINMy mom came back a few minutes later. She looked between the twins and me. “I think these look beautiful in here; what do you think Rina?” She held the vase with both bouquets mixed together in it.
“They had that vase at the nurse’s station?” I knew better than to believe that.
“Well, no. I ran into the gift shop, the woman was so helpful. She asked who these were for, I told her my daughter’s mates had brought them, and she helped me pick out this beautiful vase. She also arranged them; don’t they look so lovely mixed together?”
I rolled my eyes. “Mom, when do I get to go home?” I wanted to go home, I felt better but I needed space where I could be alone. I needed time to process all that has happened.
“The doctor said tomorrow.” My mom was still looking at the flowers.
I grumbled, “does anyone know where my phone is?” I could at least use it to take my mind off of being stuck here.
“I’ll get it, I took it out of the bag you had, it’s been charging.” Arion walked over to the little table meant for going over the bed, he unplugged my phone before turning it on. It chirped with each notification, from the sound of it, there were a hundred. He wrinkled his nose at it before handing it to me. “It looks like there are a thousand from Darren, do you want us to get rid of him for you?” They both looked like they wanted to.
“No, thank you, he was my best friend before we started dating, I should let him explain before throwing away all those years of friendship.” I looked down at my phone. Almost every message was from Darren, all of them started with I’m sorry, or please, Rina I’m sorry. I put my phone down as I sighed.
“Babe, you, ok?” Arrow took my hand.
“If you want, we can erase all the messages from him,” Arion looked hopeful.
“Rina, let your mates help you. I know you don’t want to lose Darren’s friendship. But what he did was cruel.” My mom had that poor Rina look she always got when someone hurt me.
Has everyone gone crazy? I didn’t need sympathy, I needed time to think.
“Rina, do you want me to start packing your things? I have some things packed, you know, just the things you don’t use all the time,” my mom had a faraway look in her eyes.
“Mom, I ‘m not moving into the pack house right away, I’m still not completely convinced they are my mates.” She looked over her shoulder, giving me a weird look.
“That’s your choice, I will not stand between you and your mates.” She smiled and I could tell she was relieved.
My mom left a little while later, I lay in my bed trying to find answers. I don’t know what time b I fell asleep. I dreamed Sheila and Jackie attacked me for letting their boyfriends touch me. The whole school cheered as I was punched, kicked, and beaten to a pulp. I remember looking up and seeing the twins laughing. I must have been crying in my sleep. When I woke up, my pillow felt damp. I tried to roll over but there was something heavy on my legs. I sat up suddenly awake. Resting on me lay Arrow’s black and silver wolf. On the other side was a mostly silver wolf with a streak of black running down his back. Arion. They both stared up at me asking without words if I am ok. I reached down patting their heads. They both whimpered when I stopped. “Shift and we can talk.” They both jumped down, I watched as they slowly became two hot, naked men standing in my room. I realized I was staring, I looked away hoping they hadn’t noticed. Pretty soon, the now-clothed Hell twins stood on either side of me.
I felt tears stinging my eyes. I let them fall, I didn’t care if they knew how I had felt. I was having nightmares of their girlfriends beating me up! They had failed to stop them then, why would they stop them now? I felt arms wrap around me as hands held mine. I sobbed into Arion’s shoulder. I couldn’t help it, I didn’t want them to see me cry but I knew if I told them to leave, they would refuse. I was not up for a fight right now.
“Shhhh, it’s ok Rina, we have you, we won’t let anyone hurt you. We are so sorry for our part.” Arion whispered as he rubbed my back.
I could feel it, they really meant it. I didn’t question it this time, I know I felt their emotion and how sincere they really were. I finally calmed down a little. Arrow sat on the bed holding my hands and rubbing little circles into them, Arion was sitting next to me his arms still holding me.
“What happened? We felt you upset so we shifted and ran here,” Arrow still looked ready to kill anyone who hurt me.
“I had a nightmare, Sheila and Jackie were attacking me, you two just stood there laughing. It was horrible!” I looked at my arms expecting to see bruises, nothing but normal skin.
“We would never let those bimbos hurt you! Arion looked like I had just told him I hated him.
“Those two couldn’t get near you!” Arrow smiled as though I had said something funny. “Besides, everyone knows we found our mate and that you are her. Nobody will dare to look at you or try to hurt you, they know if they do, they may be killed or tossed out of the pack.” Arrow said nonchalantly as though it was now common knowledge.
“Wait, the whole pack knows?” I asked afraid of what he had just said.
“Yup, they felt it when we discovered you are our mate. It happens to all packs when the Alpha or Alphas find their Luna.” Arion smiled happily.
“Then why didn’t I feel it when you found me?” I asked.
“You probably would have realized it when it came through the pack if you hadn’t been unconscious.” Arion was trying to be careful how he said things. I think he was afraid I may go back to unconsciousness.
I was about to ask a question when my dad came into the room. “There’s my girl! How are you feeling?” He looked worried. I knew he had stopped in a few times when I was still sleeping. He is a good dad although an absent one sometimes.
“Hi, dad,” I said sounding more annoyed than I meant.
“Hi, boys, I had a feeling I would find you here.” He smiled as though they were his sons.
“Dad, does the whole pack know they are my mates?” I asked. If anyone would know, it would be him.
“Yes, Pumpkin, everyone knows, they are all worried about you. You are their future Luna,” he said proudly. “Oh, boys, I have gotten the plans ready for the security at your party, and the other ones you asked about,” he winked at them.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, I knew they were having their birthday party but what is this other one? It better not be what I think it could be.
“Oh, nothing, it’s just a little thing the boys have cooked up. Oh, are you ready to go? The doctor said you are being released; I came to pick you up. Mom would have been here, but she is at the bakery, a big order came in.” He smiled as though I would be mad, he was here instead.
As if on cue, the doctor came in a minute later, “Rina, I have decided you are able to go home. There are a few things you need to avoid. No strenuous activities,” he said looking at the twins. “No running for a while and try to avoid stress. You are still healing from your falls and those things could cause you to pass out.” He looked at the twins and back to me.
I was so glad to be getting out of here. “What about school?” I was hoping he would say I couldn’t go yet. Today is Saturday so maybe I could miss Monday, and Tuesday? Or maybe the whole week.
“You should be fine to go on Monday, just please, no gym class, I know Reid is a stickler for exercise but, in this state, it will do more harm than good for you. I am sending a note in the release papers, he handed a stack of papers to Arion. “I called Reid and explained the situation to him too.
I grumbled as I lay back, I have been in here for almost a week and I will be fine to go back to school on Monday? What kind of crap is that? “Thanks, Doctor Malley,” I said. It wasn’t his fault I was walking into my doom. I imagined Shelia and Jackie standing there, hands balled into fists, when I walk in, POW! They get me. I almost jumped.
“Are you alright?” my dad asked, looking worried.
Both twins were by my side instantly, “Babe, you, ok?” Arrow asked taking my hand in his. Arion rubbing my back on the other side.
“Yeah, sorry, I was just thinking about school.” I couldn’t help it; I really didn’t want to go.
A little while later, I was rolled out of the hospital by the Hell twins. Arrow walked along beside me while Arion pushed the wheelchair. I was totally fine to walk but “hospital rules,” the nurse who took out my IV said. As we got outside, pack members passed by, they all bowed their heads to me and then to the twins. I was so surprised, I figured the twins probably were just saying they were bowing their heads to me to make me feel good. A minute later, my dad pulled up in his car, I got in the front, and the twins squeezed in the back. I chuckled at the two of them hunched over back there. At least I would be comfortable.
I kept trying to unlock the door until my fingers bled. I slid down the wall, tears falling down my cheeks. I could hear Dex's unsteady breaths becoming more shallow and erratic by the second. I heard footsteps coming to the door, so I quickly scurried across the room. I carefully connected the broken links and prayed to the Moon Goddess that they wouldn't notice I was free. I heard the key in the lock, the loud click telling me it was unlocked. "Rina! Rina, my dear," his gruff voice echoed against the concrete walls. "I hope you are ready for me; it will be just like last time," he cooed. I looked up, my eyes met his, "You?" I shrieked! "Why? Why would you do this to your friends?" I asked as his smirk spread across his face."They are my friends!" he snapped back, "but why should I keep waiting, keep failing in their shadows? No, it's my turn. I will have their precious mate again." He lunged forward, grabbing me by the throat. I tried to scream, but no sound came out. I clawed a
"NO!" I screamed. The silver burned as I pulled against my chains. Laughter erupted from the couple standing in front of me. "As if you have a choice!" The woman screeched through her laughter. "Your precious twins will be born tomorrow, they will be mine! Don't worry, Luna, I won't let them suffer for too long." Her wicked smile churned my stomach. How could someone so good hide so much evil? "Why?" I squeaked out.An evil smile spread across her lips. "Do you really not understand?" she asked, her eyes flashing with malice. "The blood of the true Luna's child will give me the power to use the medallion. Once I drink their blood, it will merge with mine, giving me the power I need to become the most powerful of all wolves. I will destroy all who have doubted me. My army will stretch across the lands, destroying all who stand against me." "You mean we will rule? Right?" The man standing next to her suddenly realized she did not mention him in her plans."What? Yes, of course I mean
The next day, I found myself in the Luna’s office. It was strange to think of this as my office now. Dex stood at the door, and Nikko sat across from me. I had been going over paperwork for a few hours. I decided to head into the village and grab a bite at my favorite place. I stretched before standing up. “I’m going down to the diner,” I announced. My guards agreed. We made our way through the pack house and out the door.It was a strange feeling to have everyone greet me as Luna Rina when we passed by. I smiled and greeted them. The babies had become very active inside me lately. It felt like they were excited about my decision as well. After a short walk, I stepped into the familiar place. It wasn’t hectic today, and it was nice. I slid into a booth, and the waitress came over and asked if I wanted my usual. I said yes and couldn’t wait for my shake and fries. A few minutes later, I was putting salt and ketchup on the big pile of fries in front of me. I put one in my mouth and near
The words in front of me told of the Guardians; they were wolves who had been selected before birth by the Moon Goddess to protect a True Luna. They were the most elite of all warriors and loyal only to the True Luna and those she deemed worthy.“He’s telling the truth,” I whispered. All eyes turned to look at me.“How can you be sure?” Arion and Arrow asked together.“It says so right here,” I explained, holding up the book.“Babe, they are just blank pages,” Arion said.“What? I can see all the words,” I explained.A chuckle interrupted us. “They can’t see the words, Luna; only you can,” Nikko explained.“Why does this have to be so difficult?” I asked, sighing heavily. “If I could show them, they could understand how I know.”“You can show them,” he explained. “Each of you touch your mark on her neck,” Nikko said, standing up. The twins did as he said. “Now, Luna, you look at the words,” he told me. I started looking at the page and reading a little.“Whoa,” Arrow exclaimed. “That
The crowd surrounding us was silent. I felt warm arms wrap around me. I knew it was my mates. I couldn’t help but stare at the medallion in my hands.“Baby, are you ok?” two worried voices asked.“What? Oh, yes, I’m ok.” I answered. I looked up into the faces of my mates. The crowd was watching us, their faces showed the confusion I was feeling.“Hail, Luna Rina,” a voice I did not recognize yelled from behind everyone.I looked to see who it belonged to. Dex was in front of me, his body poised to attack. My mates were the same. The pack turned to see the person who had spoken. They looked ready to strike, if necessary.“I mean no harm to any of you,” the voice said. I tried to see the silhouette's face. My name is Nikko Fallen. Perhaps you have heard of me?” he asked, stepping into the light. The crowd gasped. “I have been sent here on behalf of the guardians.” He continued walking forward before stopping in the middle of the aisle. “I am here for the true Luna.”My mates let out a
I looked around me at the smiling wolves all cheering loudly. I felt my cheeks heat up as I smiled brightly. Their energy was infectious. I felt their emotions crash down on me. I concentrated on sending out the same adoration they held for me. My mates smiled proudly. They looked incredibly handsome in their matching tuxedos. My dad gently squeezed my arm letting me know it was time to go meet them. We began walking towards them. I could barely contain my happiness. After what felt like the longest walk of my life, we stood in front of my Mates and the current Alpha. “Welcome everyone, today is an exciting day for our pack, today my sons will become your alphas!” Another round of cheers broke out through the crowd. “They have found their mate, please welcome Rina,” he said turning his attention to me. The wolves surrounding us were still cheering.Alpha Jax held up his hands to silence the crowd. “In our traditions, I will now join our two families as one. He held up a beautiful go
