Chapter 1

Author: Heart of Flowers
I dragged my luggage out of the room and cast a final glance at the bedroom I had shared with Charles for three years.

I felt no reluctance to leave the place, only sadness.

When we had just gotten married, I was the only one who liked the place. Since our marriage was ending, I was still the only one who felt sad over it.

In the three years I was married to Charles, all he felt for me was endless disgust, and he tormented me just as relentlessly.

From the moment I insisted on marrying Charles, I should have guessed that our marriage would end in tragedy since it had started as a trade deal.

I opened the door to the back passenger’s seat.

A familiar voice rose behind me. It sounded anxious. “Where are you going?”

I turned to him and said expressionlessly, “I’ve made myself clear, Charles. It’s over between us.”

“I didn’t agree to it.”

“We’re husband and wife only in name. Since we never got an official marriage certificate, I don’t need you to agree to a separation.”

Charles said nothing. Instead, he took my luggage out of the boot and dragged me back into the villa.

I wanted to break free, but his grip was like a vice. Even if I used all my strength and ended up hurting myself, I still would not be able to break free.

“Let me go! You always looked down on me because I kept pestering you to be with me, anyway! I’ve let it go now and won’t bother you again!”

Seeing that he was going to drag me inside, I turned to the Uber driver and pleaded to him, “Sir, please help me!”

The driver stood in front of his car and mustered his courage to say, “Sir, the lady doesn’t want to go with you—”

“Get lost!” Charles’s furious roar interrupted the driver. He radiated a terrifying, murderous aura.

It terrified the driver so much that he drove off.

My only hope of leaving was gone.

I did not tell anyone that I was going to leave. I even sent the servants and the maid away.

How did Charles get here? Did he fly here?

Just a moment ago, he was glued to the side of another beautiful woman.

I had packed up beforehand and wanted to give him a dignified birthday party before I left.

When I arrived at the villa, I did not linger. Somehow, he made it back so quickly.

“What on earth are you planning, Charles? Your sister’s death has nothing to do with me. I didn’t kill her! Why won’t you believe me?

“I don’t love you anymore and don’t want to bother you either. Why won’t you just let me go?”

As I spoke, my eyes welled up with tears. All the sadness that I had suppressed over the years instantly surged to the surface, and my tears streamed down my face, much to my disappointment.

Charles’s parents seldom stuck their noses into their children’s business. Helen Green, his sister, had raised him singlehandedly, so they had a very close bond.

Helen died on our wedding day.

Charles thought I was so obsessively in love with him that I could not tolerate Helen anymore. He thought I poisoned her.

So, he hated me to the core.

“Let you go? Never.”

His words struck me like a lightning bolt.

Charles had said the same thing in the past.

At that time, his entire being was filled with rage and hatred.

At present, however, his eyes were filled with tears. His rage had subsided, and his eyes shone with an emotion that I could not understand.

“You’ve got some nerve saying that. Who’s the one who used being drunk as an excuse to get handsy last time?” Charles did not feel embarrassed in the slightest and just admitted to it with a smile. “It was me. It’s time to get up.” I huffed. “I can’t get up.” Charles leaned down and was about to lift me up. It was only then that I realized that I was stark naked under the blanket. “Wait… don’t! Get out.” Charles gave me a look that said, “Why are you being such a prude when I’ve seen everything?” He did leave the room, though. Later, to my surprise, Charles took me to the City Hall for our “date.” He deliberately snuck us in through the back entrance straight into a VIP room just so I would not notice. He also had a dedicated personnel there to handle our registration. Even if I wanted to back out of this, it was already too late. “Didn’t you say you’re here for serious business?” “Isn’t getting married serious enough?” “Did I even say yes to the marriage?” “You d

Every day for half a month, Charles kept sending flowers and presents to my studio. I accepted them all but did not call him. No matter how much he tried, he could not reach me. He got so worked up about it that he ended up complaining to my mother. It was useless no matter how much he cried to my mother. I was not going to see him again. When Olivia, Titus’s girlfriend, celebrated her birthday party, she invited me. I made absolutely sure that Charles would not be there before I went to the private club with a gift in hand. The floor was covered in white rose petals, balloons, and plushies. Star-shaped lights also hung over the walls. It made the place feel cutesy and cozy. I could tell that the whole place was decorated in a way that catered to Olivia’s youthful vibe. Titus had really put an effort into Olivia’s birthday party. When I opened the door, I saw Charles standing at the door with fresh flowers in hand. He said lovingly, “Nina, this time it’s my turn to

“No, I love you, and you love me too, don’t you? Besides, Carlos is the one who killed Helen.” “But I indirectly caused her death.” “No, silly. You were just so in love with me that you wanted to get married to me as soon as possible. You didn’t have any sense of security and were worried that I wouldn’t marry you later. You just didn’t see the full picture at that time, that’s all.” “Really?” “Yes. It’s my fault. Can I use the rest of my life to make it up to you and love you?” Charles hugged me tightly. This time, I hugged him back. … Lilu showed up with a whole case of branded handbags, jewelry, and other items. The handbags were basic models that cost only a few ten thousand dollars, while the most expensive jewelry cost a little more than ten thousand dollars. Even after adding all their prices together, she could only afford around 100 thousand dollars. The news spread like wildfire within the upper-class society. When Charles pursued her, he had done so v

“Don’t you have your own hands, Cecilia?” Sensing that things were getting tense, Carlos Green, Charles’s uncle, quickly stepped forward to defuse the situation. “Don’t blame her, Nina. Her mother spoiled her rotten.” “You have no right to talk about Mom, Dad. Soon after she died, you brought that brat back, and now, you’re siding with Nina?” “Can’t you be a little more sensible, Cecilia?” Cecilia turned her ire toward me again. “I will never accept you as my cousin-in-law. Helen died that day, and you still had the galls to go through with the wedding alone! Do you even have a conscience?” I stood up and said earnestly, “I was far too selfish in the past and am unworthy of Charles—” Charles knew what I was going to say, and he hurriedly held me back. “Don’t.” When I thought about it, Helen was the only one who truly supported our relationship. When we got the news that she passed, Charles wanted to cancel the wedding, but I did not agree to it. If I had not insisted o

No one dared to even breathe. Everyone was worried that Charles would vent his frustrations on them. The director, who was presenting his work report, was stunned. He turned pale in fright because he thought he had said something wrong. He did not know what to do and sweat rolled down his forehead. Charles said coldly, “Continue.” But Charles was no longer mentally present. He did not feel like listening to the report. Instead, he searched online for ways to make a woman change her mind. He also searched for ways to make up to an angry wife. After searching for a long time, he still could not find anything useful. He asked his group of friends. [Who can make Nina change her mind? You can ask for any favor from me.] But he felt like he was just shouting into the void. Even when a few hours passed, no one answered him. It was dead silent in the group chat. He was so livid that he nearly broke his phone. But what could he do? He had made his wife angry, so he h

Pretending to be loving was not going to work on me. I would not fall for it again. I looked down at Lilu and said coldly, “Either you pay, or I’ll call the police. Pick one.” “I’ll pay.” Lilu looked around for the friends who came with her, but she found that they were gone. Lilu pitifully pleaded, “Could you give me some time?” “Sure.” Lilu’s actions confused me. Why was she not asking Charles for help? 1 million was nothing to him. But I did not ask. After all, it had nothing to do with me. … Charles’s friends might say that I was his wife, but they never respected me. They used to address every single one of his girlfriends as his “wife.” But Peter was the worst. He never even spoke to me directly and looked down on me constantly. Yet, at present, he ran over to me like an innocent puppy. “Nina!” I did not even spare him a glance. “Get lost.” Funnily enough, Peter said, “Alright.” Peter actually walked out of the store and vanished from my sight.
