ARIA

I couldn’t stop the tears. They poured out in spite of me, hot and furious, spilling past my fingers as I tried to hide them.

Caspian sat there watching me, and I hated how much I wanted to believe him.

Hated that I did believe him.

How could he be so calm after what he had done?

“You really did that,” I whispered through my fingers. “You actually punished her.”

His voice was low and deep and it made me shudder and cry harder. “I told you I would.”

I pulled my hand away and stared at him, my eyes blurred with hot tears. “Why now? Why not before? Why did it take you seeing it?”

“I needed proof. And you refused to tell me who did it even though you knew.”

“You needed evidence to believe that a woman like Talia would do that to someone like me.”

“No,” he said tightly. “I needed evidence to justify what I just did because Talia told me you were the one who always bullied her. How was I to know?”

Honesty. It was brutal and unpolished, but it hit me harder than any lie would have.

ARIA NO. I was shaking my head before Caspian could say another word. “It's not him, I can't believe my father would harm my kids.” I muttered, refusing to even believe it. “Let's talk about it when we're alone, Caspian.” But the question stayed like smoke after a bonfire, wrapping tighter around my neck like a noose. What if Caspian was right? What if father had something to do with this? Driving over to Caspian’s home was easy enough, but I didn't want to be here. It wasn't my home, nor my place of safety. But the kids loved his home. Analide came over with Nyx. They were both happy enough to help me set up the kids room and my room. I had insisted on taking my own room. A place that was mine and that I could back away and retreat from the world if I wanted to. Caspian came to the door, leaning against it with his fingers around the handle. “I need to leave for a couple hours. I'll be back before Nyx leaves.” I nodded, moving to him at the door. Lowering my voice, I asked

ARIACaspian arrived half way through, his eyes flashing when I opened the door and he saw my father with the twins. Nylah jumped off the floor and ran into his arms as always. “Hello, Prince Caspian,” she said. “Did you know that I have a grandfather?” Caspian frowned at my father who stood and walked over to us. “I didn't know, and I didn't expect to see him here either.” Caspian’s voice tightened on the last words and he threw me a scatching look. The visit had been impromptu, I hadn't had the time to tell him ahead of time, and he didn't need to look so pissed about it.“Caspian Finnick. Pleasure to meet you,” Father said, smiling up at Finnick and holding his arm out for a shake.Caspian’s eyes darkened. “I wouldn't say the same, Mr. Stanton. If you'll excuse me. Aria, may I speak to you for a moment alone?”He allowed Nylah to slid down the floor and with my father's hand hanging in the air, he walked off. “Meredith? Please keep an eyes on the kids. I'll be back.” I excused

ARIAI couldn't sleep that night. Caspian had dropped me off at home, and went off to a meeting with his uncle. Every single creak in the house had me sitting up in bed, listening with my ears peeled for what? Footsteps? Voices? Someone trying to break into the house? I had no idea. When I sat up the third time, I threw my legs out of bed and walked into the kitchen, made myself a cut of coffee and sat with my fingers wrapped around it to warm my cold fingers.Ivan anger towards me was worrying. He was the one who had assaulted me. He didn't have any reason to pursue me so relentlessly. I went up into my bedroom, found the drive and plugged it in. Vivienne had researched Rowan extensively. If there was something, then I would find it. I read for an hour, clicking through all the documents, but there was nothing to see. No mention of her husband, but again, if Vivienne had information on Ivan, she most probably wouldn't place it where I could see it. I sat back, sipping from the c

CASPIANI could barely see the scenery around me. My eyes were narrowed on the road while Xander gave me directions to the restaurant he was supposed to have gone to with Aria. “Fuck, Caspian. You're driving like an old man. Can't this thing go any faster.” I stopped replaying every worst case scenario in my head long enough to frown at him. “It's your damned car. If I go any faster, it'll fucking somersault.” Ivan and Rowan in the same room as Aria when she had sounded that calm? It meant she was scared.I arrived at the restaurant, noting that her car was still parked. She's fine, she's fine, I repeated in my head. Everything’s fine. Except everything was wrong.“Stay in the car,” I said to Xander.“Like hell.” He was already out, slamming his door shut and following me into the restaurant. I didn't bother arguing with him. I pushed the door open and walked into the space. Searching the room, I didn't find her red hair, nor those green eyes, and neither Ivan or Rowan were in the

ARIAA dry laugh escaped my lips. “Wow, Ivan, couldn't even stay dead for one month?” I asked.Ivan Dmitri was alive, standing there like the devil had found his way out of hell. On his face was a smug grin, and I could tell he'd accurately read the surprise on my face. Standing beside him, was Rowan.“Aria? Did you miss me?” Ivan’s eyes ran over my body, and his smirk widened. “I see you're looking even better.” Ivan slid into the booth across from me like he owned the place, while Rowan followed, sitting beside me, boxing me in against the wall like he owned me. My body locked up, but I moved as far away as the leather seat allowed, placing my bag between us as a wall. Xander wasn’t coming. It was obvious that the lunch had been a setup.“I take it Mr. Lexington isn’t joining us?” My tone was flat, but I felt my pulse hammering in my throat.Ivan laughed, but Rowan answered, his arm lifting and curling across the back of the booth, his musky scent hitting my nose like poison. “D

ARIA “Mara? Please clear my schedule for the day.” Mara sat opposite me, tapping into her tablet. She stopped. “Um, Mr Lexington called earlier, asking me to schedule time for lunch with him.” Xander? I hadn't seen him since the other day in Caspian’s office. Why hadn't he called me? “Okay, an hour at lunch. Nothing else for the rest of the day.” I said. She locked the door behind her and I turned on my laptop, keeping track of the news. While we drove over, I'd texted the same reporter I used the last time, with the audio of Zara saying I should get over the assault. I didn't have long to wait. About an hour later, the notifications started dropping in. The outrage was expected, and deserved. “Zara Stanton? I always knew there was something not right about her!” “Wow, she has a sister?” “It was years ago, get over it!” I scrolled through most of the comments, but there was no satisfaction in it. I really didn't care much about Zara, I just wished she would stay the
