FINGERS

FINGERS

I must have been imagining things again i tell myself. He would not have run his slender and immaculate fingers across my lips, and i must have been crazy enough to suck on them.

“If what you are saying is correct, then he must have indeed run away after that.” Jessica tells me as she sucks on her fruit pop.

Cocking my head to the side like it was going to help me differentiate reality from my imagination. All I can see is his beautiful face twisted in pleasure as my tongue ran up and down his fingers. I could still feel them in my mouth, I suppress a moan, it felt so perfect there. The next scene I can remember is him pulling his fingers out of my mouth, taking his bag and everything else and he bolts from the room like his ass was on fire.

I sigh. The time was up so I can't tell if he left for real or it happened and i somehow scared him off.

Jessica dumped her bag in the back seat of my car, and rested on the body of my car as she studied me from the side of the car.

“Wanna go to the beach? After seating in there posed for a sleazy old man, who thinks nude art is an excuse to ogle and accidentally graze my boobs, I need the salt water to purify me.”

I'm partly listening to her and partly wondering about what I was going to do about Professor Vaughn. I was going to graduate soon and i have only come as far as I started out.

“What on earth did you do to scare your client like that?” Molasses asked with a condescending look in her eyes. Why she thought she was better than me, the world may never know.

“What nonsense are you talking about now?”

She was still wearing her mask, but was fully clothed. Of course she would pick the coward's method: hiding away and ambushing people.

“I saw your client bolt out of your room. He did not look back.”

I share a look with Jessica. She understands that this means I was not day dreaming, it really happened. Finally there was physical action between the two of us. I felt so excited by this information that I don't care that he ran away right after. After all the years of patience and consistency. That ought to mean he feels something right?

“I hope you are not thinking this means he will fall straight on your laps.”

She sneers at me.

“No. But at least, the people who do this because they have to, will finally get what they deserve.”

I can't help the laugh that tumbles out of my mouth.

“Yes Molasses, we get it. You deserve everything good because you don't have a choice and all the self righteous stories you tell yourself to feel good. But he will never be your client. He might have run out for personal reasons.”

“I honestly wish you would mind your business. And if this job is not up to your moral standards go wait tables. I know of at least three places that hire people above thirty-five years of age.” Jessica adds and shrugs.

Her mouth falls at that. I and Jessica laugh as I drive away. I am mostly laughing because I am happy. My efforts has started to pay off.

“You know what? Screw the beach. Let's party at my house. I have beer, I have wine. And we can order pizza.”

Jessica whoops and it is hard not to follow suit. The drive to my place is short because I know all of the short cuts by now.

“Now i get Molasses meant. Oh my god. This is not an apartment, this is a house.” Jessica says wide eyes as I park.

My parents would have done anything I asked them to as long as I went to college. And because I did not want them to know about this house, I paid for it in cash. I could see the lines around Mrs. Elizabeth the second's eyes deepen when she could not find out anything about me. Ha! In your face you old crow.

“Welcome to my humble abode.” I say in all manner of humility as I input my passcode and the door slides open.

“Roxanne? Is that you?” I hear from inside the house.

I blink. Sarah was here? I curse inwardly. I should not have been so forthcoming with my passcode.

“Even the inside of the house is sick as fuck.” Jessica says as her eyes soak up the living room.

Sarah walks out of the kitchen with an apron tied around her waist and mittens on her hands. That explained the blueberry muffin I could smell.

I smile warmly at her, she was intruding but I was always happy to see her.

She frowns at Jessica who is still taken by the house.

“Who is this?” Sarah asked me but her eyes don't leave Jessica.

I sigh. Drinking was out of the window now. Sarah was that mom friend everybody has. Most of the time, like when she stocks up my fridge and reminds me to do laundry, my grocery and take out my trash, she is super helpful. But the other times when she hovers and is in all of my business, I want to remind her that I ran away from my suffocating birth mother in Maine.

“Sarah this is Jessica my new friend. Jessica meet Sarah my old friend.” I say and kick off my shoes.

“Hey Sarah. I never knew Roxanne had any friends.” Jessica greets with a smile.

Sarah smiles too. She was always pushing me to have more friends outside her and her husband; Jack.

“I know. She could have a ton of friends if she tried.”

“That is my thought exactly. Like with the car and house, she'd be a friend magnet. But instead she glares at everyone all the time like a real stuck up bitch.”

My brows shoot up as Sarah winces. She was so much of a mom that she never swore. And hated swearing. But Jessica does not notice This, she wanders into the kitchen.

“Wow. This smells amazing. Roxanne let's have the spaghetti instead of the pizza and beer we planned.”

This time I wince and avoid Sarah's eyes. She always said no drinking on school nights. Honestly, she will do well as a teacher, thank God our majors were on opposite sides of the school.

Jessica walked out of the kitchen with a bowl of ice cream in hand.

“Sorry. I can’t stay away from sugar for too long.” She did not sound sorry.

So far, Sarah was not liking Jessica. She hated when desert ruined appetites.

“is the food ready? I’m starved.” I say quickly.

Sarah smiles at me. Her food was something she took pride in.

“Yes. Call Jack from the game room, I'll set the table.”

“You have a game room??? Girl, I should have been best friends with you since last year.”

Oh boy. Sarah was smiling politely now. Another thing she hated was jokes about being friends with me for money. Jack made one the first time we met and it was hell.

“Food is ready.”

He jumps out of his seat immediately. Once bitten and all of that.

“Roxanne I did not know you had the cutest brother. Hey cutie pie, I have some pie you might want to eat later.” Jessica says to Jack.

Jack turns red. Looking from Jessica to his wife then to me.

“That is Sarah's husband Jack. He is not my brother.”

Jessica blinked. Then laughed.

“Well this is awkward.”

We all pretend to move past it and sit at the table. All except Jessica pretends. She looks to have really moved past it.

“So uhm. Where did you meet Roxanne? We meet almost every day and she has never mentioned a new friend.” She looks pointedly at her. I grin sheepishly.

“Actually, we just met on Monday.”

“What??” Sarah and Jack chorused.

“Not really. If you count the times I met you before.”

My eyes bulge. She could not tell them about it. They did not know. I try meet her eyes but she is interested in looking at Sarah instead.

Oh God, please no.

“Where else?”

No. No. No. They could not know. I cough loudly. Jack passes me a water and Sarah glances at me worriedly.

“The beach. I work at the restaurant there. Also, the n..”

Her phone starts to ring, making her stop her sentence. My shoulders sag and i make a promise to marry whoever called her.

She looked at me, finally, with wide eyes.

“It's him.”

I frown, “who?”

“Professor Vaughn.”
