“Can I discuss this with him first?” I find myself asking.

The woman who baited me scoffs.

“Would you look at that? She has to run to him first. Do you think a grown man would offer himself up for you?”

I ignore her and search the faces of the other board members.

“It happened with both of us consenting, I shouldn't have to make this decision alone.”

“Mr. Walker was unreachable when we called you in, which explains his absence. We need your decision today, as you know the school's image is at stake.”

I swallow.

“One hour, I know where he is, I’ll get there in an hour and be back here with your response.”

Baiting lady scoffs again. Grating on my nerves.

“Do you think we should wait for you? We have important things to do.”

“But this concerns him also. It’s only fair that he knows about it.”
