The sun dipped low behind the horizon, casting long shadows over the abandoned factory on the edge of the city. The place had been chosen carefully—neutral territory, or so both sides had claimed. The King brothers weren't stupid; they came armed, alert, and backed up by their most trusted men. But the tension humming in the air made it clear: this meeting was anything but safe.

It had started with a name. Toby.

Alistair had come through with information a few days after the brothers left for their mission. He discovered that the man who had tormented Kayla in the orphanage hadn't just disappeared into obscurity. No, Toby had found his way into the criminal underworld—and not just any part of it, but the Crimson Serpents, a rival Mafia group known for their brutality and cunning.

"Toby Matthews," Alistair said grimly, standing over a table filled with photos and documents. "Alias: Smoke. He's their new enforcer."

Victor clenched his jaw. "So he went from bullying innocent kids

Kayla looked at the ancient looking building in front of her as her nerves got the best of her. Her heart was beating wilding like it was going to jump out of her chest. People were glancing at her left and right, and she knew why, her eyes. She has heterochromia, but her eyes were not the usual heterochromia mix, like blue and green or brown and a more natural colour. One of her eyes was silver, almost light in colour that her eyeball looked completely white. Her other eye was a light violet in colour. The colours of her eyes contrast against her brown skin, making them stand out the more. She always make use of glasses to tone down the colour but it is still noticeable. She brushed her hair to cover her face, her hair was a natural virgin hair that sat full and large on her head making her look smaller. Kayla always love music and learnt to play a lot of instruments by herself in a music store close to the orphanage where she grew up. That is why she always wanted to stud

Victor King entered the lecture hall, his suitcase in his left hand, his expensive Italian shoes clicking against the floor gaining the attention of every person in the hall. The noise in the hall quietened as everyone stared at him but he did not look at any one of them, walking down to his desk, he placed the suitcase on it before finally turning around. He leaned on the desk, rolling up his sleeves to his elbows exposing his tattoos and bulging muscles. Some of the ladies in the hall squealing at the sight. He looked at each and everyone of them, not saying a word. Until his golden brown eyes met with a mismatched ones. From the description his brother has mentioned, this is the girl that had him distracted. She looked so small in the sea of other students, her big glasses sitting on her button nose only made her look even more cute. Her black full hair fanned around her face like some sort of halo. 'She is so beautiful. And perfect.' he thought, now he see why his brothe

Kayla tried to be as fast as possible to get ready for her class. How she slept through her alarm, she has no idea. When she finally finished getting ready, she grabbed her bag which thankfully she had organised last night and left the room, locking the door behind her. She ran down the stairs and once outside, began to sprint, she probably had like five more minutes before the class starts. Not like she will get there on time, but she does not want to be too late. She ran faster, hitting and bumping into different people, apologies flew out of her lips without even stopping. She finally arrived in front of the big door, breathing heavily, she grabbed the handle and went in. The people in the hallway were less, meaning she was so late. Everyone is inside already. Not looking ahead, she bumped into something hard, the force pushing her few steps backwards but a muscular arm wrapped around her to steady her. She looked up to see who she had bumped into and her eyes widened as the

Kayla got to the bakery. This time she was the only one in, with the other girl that always insulted her. Her only companions, Alessandro and Lucas were not around. She quietly got into the kitchen and began to work. The day had a theme of fruit pastries so she planned to make Apple Turnovers, Berry Danish Pastries, Lemon Curd Tartlets, Strawberry Cream Cheese Croissants, and Banana Nutella Turnovers. It was a lot of work but she got into it. Kayla tied her apron tightly around her waist, rolled up her sleeves, and began setting out the ingredients she needed. The kitchen was quiet except for the faint hum of the refrigerator and the clinking of her utensils. It felt almost peaceful, even if she was dreading the inevitable snide remarks from her coworker. She started with the apple turnovers, peeling and chopping the apples into neat, even pieces. She worked methodically, letting the soothing routine of baking calm her nerves. As the cinnamon and sugar mixture coated the apples,

The King brothers were sitting in their office waiting for Elijah. Elijah is the right hand man of the brothers and the only person that they have trusted all their lives since they became Mafia Kings. They were already getting impatient. "Call him." Alistair said to Elliot, agitated. Just then, someone knocked on the door. The door opened and the person they were expecting came in. Elijah was a very big man, standing at about 6'3", he was even taller than the brothers who are 6'0". He hardly wears suit and prefers to be comfortable in combat outfits or joggers and hoodie like he is wearing at the moment. He hardly talked and sometimes always mistaken to be mute by other people. "You took your time to show up." Victor said to Elijah, who merely shrugged as he took his seat. He placed a file each in front of the three of them. "There is nothing much about her, I'm still investigating more but I brought this for you guys." Elijah explained. Victor opened his file first and his

Kayla was busy baking in the kitchen. She was the only one alone in the kitchen, her favorite coworkers, Lucas and Alessandro were not around making her alone with Madeline, the one who always bullies her. Today's pastries were simple and easy to make so Kayla got to work immediately. Kayla concentrated on kneading the dough, her hands moving skillfully as she toiled in quiet. The inviting aroma of butter and vanilla permeated the air, fostering a cozy ambiance—an environment that was swiftly interrupted by Madeline's arrival. "For once, you're actually doing something correctly," Madeline mocked, resting against the counter with her arms folded. Kayla inwardly sighed but chose not to reply. She had realized long ago that interacting with Madeline only worsened the situation. Rather, she went on molding the dough, resolved to disregard her. Madeline, on the other hand, was not someone to be overlooked. She approached nearer, her pointed nails clicking on the counter. "It mu

The King brothers strolled into the mall, their eyes scanning the bustling surroundings as they silently agreed on a single mission—get what Kayla needed. While they were used to extravagant shopping trips filled with luxury items for themselves or gifts for business acquaintances, this time felt different. It was personal. They wanted to spoil her. But not too much. Kayla was quiet, reserved, and they could tell she wasn’t the type to accept lavish gifts easily. If they overwhelmed her, there was a chance she might retreat, and the last thing they wanted was to push her away. “We’ll keep it simple,” Victor said, his deep voice steady. “But thoughtful.” Alistair nodded. “Agreed. Let’s each pick out something useful for her.” Without further discussion, they split up, each brother heading to a different section of the store. Victor walked confidently toward the shoe section, his keen gaze inspecting the orderly shelves. The aroma of new leather permeated the atmosphere as h

Kayla paused at the doorway, her hand lingering on the shiny doorknob for a split second more than needed. She couldn’t understand why Victor had summoned her to his office, yet she was unable to dispel the sense of dread that lodged itself deep within her stomach. Had she committed a mistake? She searched her mind, but nothing surfaced. Drawing a deep breath, she finally knocked on the door. "Come in." a deep voice said behind the closed door. Kayla took another deep breath and opened the door. The large office was tastefully decorated, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that let the late afternoon sunlight fill the space with a cozy ambiance. Nonetheless, the view that met her caused her to hesitate. All three brothers of King were present. Victor leaned against the desk, arms casually crossed, yet his gaze remained keen and steady. Alistair rested against the wall with relaxed assurance, his blue eyes observing her intently, while Elliott perched on the edge of the leather co

Morning light crept into the bedroom in golden ribbons, casting a warm glow over the tangled sheets and limbs. Kayla stirred first, her lashes fluttering open as a soft hum of satisfaction escaped her lips. Her body ached in the most delicious way, a sweet reminder of the love and passion they had shared the night before. She blinked, taking in the sight of the three men sprawled around her—Victor on her left, an arm slung protectively over her waist; Alistair behind her, his face buried in her hair; and Elliot draped near her feet, one leg still tangled with hers. A quiet smile curled her lips. Carefully, so as not to wake them, Kayla slipped out from their arms and padded to the closet. It was Saturday—thank God—which meant no lectures or running to campus. But she had assignments to complete—three, to be exact—and she was determined to knock them out today. She dressed in soft gray sweatpants and a white tank top, tying her curls up into a loose bun. As she stepped into the

Kayla let out a tired sigh as she walked into the house, Veronica trailing behind her. The day had been long—she’d barely had time to breathe between juggling three different assignments and attending back-to-back meetings. She could feel the weight of exhaustion creeping up on her shoulders, and her mind was begging for a break. If only Alexei would give her a little time to catch her breath before she completely passed out. “Do you want to crash first, or get to work on the assignments?” Veronica asked, her voice light with a touch of teasing. Kayla flashed her a tired smile. “Work,” she muttered. “I’ll be dead if I don’t get this stuff done.” Veronica just rolled her eyes, clearly used to Kayla’s obsession with getting things done on time. “Good luck,” she said, waving a hand as Kayla made her way upstairs. But Kayla wasn’t heading up to her room just yet. Instead, she dropped her bag on the stairs, exhausted, and glanced toward the kitchen. Her stomach grumbled at the

Victor’s POVIt’s been a week since we returned from the holiday, and Kayla has been living with us — in our home, in our hearts, in every quiet corner that once felt dull and empty. Every morning, before she leaves for class, her phone rings. Without fail, it’s Leo. Her overprotective big brother, checking in. And every time, I see that soft smile on her lips, hear the lightness in her voice, and it reassures me.Our queen is glowing — not just from the outside but from within. There’s peace in her eyes now, a peace I hadn’t realized was missing until it was finally there. And that’s all we want for her.Peace. Safety. Love. But peace is never permanent in our world. Not when there are shadows trailing her past — especially one by the name of Toby. We’ve done enough watching from the sidelines. It’s time to dig. Time to act.Alistair’s POVThe plan was simple. We’d return to the orphanage where Kayla spent her childhood and dig through the rot. The goal wasn’t just about getting info

--- The morning of their departure arrived faster than Kayla would have liked. The soft rustle of suitcases being zipped shut and the low murmur of conversation filled the luxurious penthouse suite. The holiday had felt like a dream — a blissful escape wrapped in golden sunsets, lazy mornings, and evenings filled with laughter and affection. But reality, with all its obligations and schedules, had come knocking. Kayla sat on the edge of the bed in her room, gently folding the last of her clothes into her bag. Her fingers lingered on a lightweight scarf — a souvenir from their trip to the beach. It still smelled faintly of sea salt and sunshine. She brought it to her nose and closed her eyes, trying to seal the memory inside her. A soft knock pulled her from her thoughts. “Come in,” she called quietly. Victor stepped inside, his sleeves rolled up as usual, and a faint crease between his brows. “Almost ready, sweetheart?” Kayla nodded, forcing a smile. “Yeah. Just trying to make

Kayla tried her best to mask the change in her mood. She smiled when the men smiled, laughed when they joked, and nodded when they asked if she was all right. But the lively sparkle she had carried all day was now dim, and despite her efforts, it didn’t escape the sharp, observant eyes of the men around her. Victor, Alistair, and Elliot exchanged glances more than once. Leo, her brother, narrowed his eyes thoughtfully as he watched Kayla push her food around her plate, barely eating a bite. They didn’t press her there at the restaurant — not with so many eyes around — but a silent agreement passed between them. They would find out what was wrong. Later, once they were back in the privacy of the penthouse suite they shared, Kayla excused herself to sit by the window, hugging her knees to her chest as she stared out at the city lights. Victor was the first to move. He crouched down in front of her, his hand resting lightly on her knee. "Kayla," he said, his voice low and sof

After leaving the salon, Kayla bundled herself tighter in her jacket as they headed toward the massive shopping mall downtown. The building was sleek and modern, sparkling under the winter sun, and Kayla couldn't help but gape at its size. She had never been anywhere so luxurious before. As they entered, a hush seemed to fall over the crowd. Heads turned. Whispers followed them. It wasn’t just the sight of four handsome, sharply dressed men — it was who they were. The King brothers and Leo had a strong influence in the country, and it showed. Instantly, mall security appeared, escorting them past lines and offering them VIP treatment without hesitation. Private elevators. Complimentary drinks. Personal shopping assistants. Kayla blinked rapidly, feeling like she had stepped into some fairytale. "Relax," Victor said, nudging her gently with his elbow. "You’re with us now." Their first stop was a high-end boutique, where the walls glittered with designer clothes and the manneq

Kayla blinked awake, her eyelashes fluttering against the soft pillow. For a moment, she lay still, cocooned in the warmth of the blankets, her mind hazy with sleep. But then, like a flood breaking through a dam, the memories of last night surged back. She had a brother. Leo. The thought alone made her heart thrum faster, a mixture of disbelief and wonder coursing through her veins. She hugged the covers tighter around herself, a small, dazed smile pulling at her lips. She wasn't alone in the world after all. She had family—real family. Pushing herself out of bed, Kayla padded across the plush carpet to the adjoining bathroom. The air was cool, sending a shiver racing up her spine. She turned on the tap and splashed cold water onto her face, trying to shake off the lingering sleepiness. As she brushed her teeth, she caught her reflection in the mirror—wide mismatched eyes, slightly puffy from last night’s tears, but sparkling with something new. Hope. After a quick shower, she w

Leo had barely slept. He paced the length of his office, fingers drumming restlessly against his thigh. The DNA lab had promised results first thing in the morning, and now every tick of the clock felt like a year. He glanced at his phone for the hundredth time—still nothing. He was about to call again when the screen lit up. Subject: DNA Sibling Test Result Leo’s heart slammed against his ribs. Hands slightly trembling, he opened the file. Match Probability: 99.98% — Biological Siblings. He stood still. For a long moment, he couldn’t breathe. She was his sister. Kayla. The quiet girl with eyes that held too much pain for someone so young. The girl who flinched when touched too suddenly. The girl with fire in her smile when she let herself feel safe. His sister. Leo let out a shaky breath and sank into the chair behind him, pressing his hands to his face. “Thank you,” he whispered to no one, to everything. “Thank you.” Just then, his phone buzzed again.
