Chapter 11: “Not Your Brother”
Kieran’s POV… I got dressed fast, barely remembering to shove my shirt over my head before I was storming out of the mansion. Lucas, my Beta, was already outside waiting, standing like he knew something was about to go down. He fell into step beside me, quiet, like always. But I stopped and turned to him before I even reached my car. “I need you to stay here,” I said. “Watch over Ava. No matter what happens, she doesn’t leave this place unless I’m with her. Got it?” Lucas nodded once. “Got it. You sure you wanna go alone?” “Yeah,” I muttered. “This is personal.” He didn’t argue. Just gave me a look that said be careful, and stepped back. I slid into the driver’s seat, slammed the door, and peeled out of the driveway. My knuckles were white on the steering wheel. Who the hell did Demon think he was? He knew Ava was mine. He knew she was my mate. And yet he was still out there, making plans like he had a chance. Like I wouldn’t tear the whole world down to protect her. I kept my foot pressed to the gas, cutting through the backroads until I reached the edge of town. There it was—the old house, falling apart, surrounded by nothing but dry weeds and rusted cars. Of course Demon would be here. Creepy, dramatic, and way too into the whole ‘bad guy’ aesthetic. I parked a little ways off and walked up. He was already waiting outside, sitting on a cracked chair like he didn’t have a care in the world. A glass of something in his hand, acting like this was just another lazy afternoon. He saw me and smiled. Not the friendly kind. The kind that made you want to break something. “Look who decided to show,” he said, lifting his glass in a lazy mock-toast. I didn’t return the smile. “Cut the crap. What do you want?” He stood up slowly, brushing dust off his shirt like we were about to shake hands or something. “Relax, bro.” I growled at the word. “Don’t call me that. We’re not brothers. We can never be brothers.” He stepped closer, that same smug look still plastered on his face. “Sure we are. Pack-born, blood-bound, fated and raised—” “Shut up,” I snapped. “You’re nothing to me.” The guards—his guys, three of them in black—watched from a distance, but they didn’t move. Not yet. “I asked you a question,” I said through my teeth. “Why Ava? What the hell are you doing sniffing around her like a freak?” He chuckled and tilted his head. “Because I want her. You know me, I always get what I want.” I stepped forward so fast he barely flinched before I shoved him back. “She’s not yours to want. She’s my mate.” “Really?” he said, like it was a joke. “So what—you claim her and suddenly she’s off-limits to the rest of the world? Come.on brother, I thought you were smarter than this. Don't tell me this is how it is.” “That’s exactly what it is.” Demon just shook his head, the smile never leaving his face. “See, I’ve been waiting for this. For you to finally crack. I thought you’d have snapped sooner, honestly.” “I’m warning you,” I said, my voice low. “And I’m telling you,” he said, stepping right into my space, “I’m gonna have her. Nothing’s gonna stop that.” Behind him, his pack of wolves guys shifted, getting ready. I saw one of them start to move, and before I could blink, Demon raised a hand without even turning around. “Stand down,” he ordered them. They froze immediately. He looked back at me, grin spreading wider. “See? I don’t want a fight. Not today.” I clenched my jaw, fists at my sides. “Then why poke the bear?” “Because it’s fun,” he said, laughing. I lost it. My hand flew to his collar, yanking him forward as I slammed my fist into the wall beside his head. He didn’t even flinch. “I swear, if you go near her—” “You’ll what?” he interrupted, grinning like this was the best day of his life. “Kill me? Declare war? Come on, Kieran. That’s what brothers do, right? Fight over girls.” I shoved him back, breathing hard. “We’re. Not. Brothers.” He straightened his shirt and gave me that infuriating shrug again. “Of course we are. You just don’t want to admit it.” I stared at him, my eyes burning, my wolf pressing harder against my skin. I could feel it trying to claw through, begging to take over, to end this now. But I held it back. Barely. “Ava is mine,” I said, voice tight and dangerous. “And soon, she’ll be Luna. She’ll be known across every pack, every clan.” He laughed again. “You say that like it’s already true.” “It is,” I growled. “But how do you know she’ll choose you?” he asked, stepping close again. “You’re not even human. You’re not some normal guy she met at school or work. You’re a monster. An Alpha. You think a human girl like that is gonna accept you? Just like that?” His words hit harder than I expected. Because yeah, sometimes I thought the same thing. I knew Ava hadn’t seen the full truth yet. She didn’t know what I was—what we were. How could she love someone like me when I hadn’t even told her who I really was? But I couldn’t let him see that doubt. Not for one second. So I stepped forward, real slow, until I was close enough that my whisper would hit like a punch. “She is mine.” Before he could react, I slammed a hand into his stomach, knocking the breath right out of him. His body flew backward, crashing into the wall behind him. The old wood shattered on impact, splinters exploding across the porch. He slumped to the floor, coughing. And I stood there, breathing hard, staring him down.Chapter 15: “Show Me”Ava’s POV…I just stood there.Everything around me felt like it was spinning, like my body was here but my brain hadn’t caught up yet. Kieran was changing—like, right there in front of me. Not into a full wolf exactly, but close. His hands were still human but covered in fur. His face still looked like him, but his jaw stretched slightly and those glowing red eyes… they weren’t going away this time. And the worst part?I couldn’t look away.I felt like I was stuck watching something I was never meant to see.Kieran stepped forward, grabbing the woman who had just tried to kill me—like it was nothing. She was still alive somehow, but she didn’t look scared. She actually laughed, like some villain from a movie. She smiled, teeth sharp and weirdly calm.“No one’s gonna accept you anymore,” she spat in his face. “You’re too weak to lead. When the full moon comes, the clans will reject you. A new Alpha will rise.”I didn’t know what any of that meant. Clans? Full moo
Chapter 14: “What Are You?”Ava’s POVI just stood there, frozen, like my feet were glued to the floor. The people that walked in didn’t feel normal—like, at all. Something was off. Way off.A woman in a dark-red suit stepped forward between two tall guys dressed in black. She had short hair and heels like knives. Her eyes locked on mine the second she entered, and I instantly felt weird—watched, judged, like I’d already failed some test she hadn’t said out loud.“Uh… hi?” I said, taking a step forward. “Who—”She didn’t even let me finish. She moved so fast, it didn’t register until her hand was around my neck.“What the hell—!” I gasped, grabbing her wrist. Her fingers tightened. I struggled against her grip, kicking, clawing, but she didn’t even flinch. And when I looked into her face—her eyes—I froze. They were yellow. Not hazel. Not gold. Bright, glowing yellow like something out of a horror movie. My brain couldn’t even process it.She let out this low laugh, her breath cold aga
Chapter 13: “Not All Wounds Heal”Ava’s POV…I woke up the next morning and the bed was cold.Kieran wasn’t next to me.I sat up slowly, rubbing my eyes. My throat felt dry. I reached out for my phone on the nightstand, checked the time, then texted him.Me: hey where did you go?No reply.I got up, threw on the first black hoodie I could find, pulled my hair into a lazy braid, and grabbed my work bag. Another day of pretending to be someone I’m not. Another day of fake smiles and coffee runs for a woman who used to sleep with my ex-husband.Yay.I paused at the front door, holding my phone and staring at the keys. I could take the car, but something stopped me. If I drove in with his car, people would notice. They’d start talking. I’m not ready for that yet.As I stepped outside, something caught my eye near the garage.A bicycle?I blinked.“Okay… why did he have a bike?” I muttered, walking over to it. It was one of those expensive-looking ones, super clean, like it’s never been to
Chapter 12: “The Ones Who Betray You First”Kieran’s POV…Demon was still coughing on the floor, trying to drag himself upright. For a second, I was just staring at him, breathing hard, chest tight. And then—Clap. Clap. Clap.I froze. The slow, sarcastic clapping came from behind me. I turned around, and for a second, I didn’t even believe what I was seeing.“Catherine?” I said her name without meaning to. Whispered it, like I’d seen a ghost. She stood there in the open doorway like she owned the place, her blonde hair tied back the way she used to do it when she wanted to show off her cheekbones. Same smug look. Same eyes that used to promise forever. She walked toward me like this was casual—like she wasn’t someone who’d walked out on me, on everything. Her heels clicked against the wood and she didn’t stop until she was right in front of me.“What are you doing here?” I asked, but my voice came out quieter than I meant it to.Catherine smiled, slow and fake. “Still fighting like w

Chapter 10: "Claimed"Kieran's POV…She stood there, pressed against me, her body tense, her eyes wide. She stared up at me like she wasn’t sure if she wanted to run away or move closer. I held her tighter, feeling how small she was against me. So soft. So real. For a second, her hand lifted, like she was about to touch my face. I stayed still, my heart beating harder than it should’ve, but she hesitated.Instead, she whispered, “Why… why did you call me here?”I didn’t answer with words. I leaned in, brushing my mouth lightly against her neck, just below her ear, where her pulse jumped. I let my voice fall into a low whisper.“You’re my wife,” I said. “Why are you acting scared of me?”She pulled back quick, her hand on my chest like she needed space. Her voice was defensive, stubborn. “I’m not scared. I just… I didn’t know why I was called.”I chuckled under my breath, stepping away and dropping onto the couch like I wasn’t losing my mind just being near her. I picked up my drink, s
Chapter 9: “Who’s Laughing Now”Ava's POV…I watched as Linda stood there, looking at me like I’d just slapped her into next week. Her face twisted between shock and straight-up rage, and around us, the other workers were whispering like little bugs, but none of them had the guts to actually say anything out loud.I was brushing my hands off, trying to act chill even though inside I was still heated, when the door opened. I didn’t even have to guess. Lydia. And right behind her, Richard, like some unwanted shadow. They stormed toward us, and Richard barked, “What happened here?”Linda didn’t even hesitate. She pointed dead at me like I was some criminal and said, “She hit me. A cleaner like her hit me.”I almost laughed out loud. Like, seriously? That’s the story we’re going with? This place was honestly a circus and everyone here were clowns.Richard’s face turned this weird shade of red as he spun to me. “Are you crazy? What is wrong with you?” he snapped.I crossed my arms, keeping
Chapter Eight: Unwelcome ShadowsAva Pov…Richard stood in the doorway, his eyes locking with mine like he’d seen a ghost. For a second, he looked like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing. I stayed frozen, dripping wet, the sting of Lydia’s attack still fresh on my skin. The silence dragged out until I finally stood up, straightened my soaked clothes, and faced him with the same cold detachment I’d learned to perfect."Nice to see you again," I said, voice dry as I turned away. His hand caught my wrist, halting me. "What are you doing here, Ava?"I yanked my hand from his grip without hesitation. "Why do you care? We’re not together anymore. Or did you forget that already? Looked like you moved on pretty quick. For a second I never have any doubt."His face twisted. "You think you can just walk back into my life after—after killing our kids?"That stopped me cold, not from guilt, but from rage."You really have the nerve to say that to my face?" I turned, facing him again, the fury
Chapter Seven…AVA – POV…I was on my knees with a sponge in one hand and a bucket beside me, scrubbing the hallway tiles like a damn janitor. My palms were raw. My knees ached. And all I could think was—my father really did this to me.Not even a desk job. Not a shadowed cubicle. No paperwork. No training. Just a sponge, a bucket, and a hallway. The man who raised me wanted me to start from the bottom—this bottom. I was supposed to crosswz my legs by now, acting like a boss.I remembered Kieran offering me something different. His company. His name. His resources. He didn’t hide what he had, and he didn’t treat me like I was disposable. But I said no. I wanted to take over my father’s empire, my legacy. I wanted to build my name on my own. I never imagined he’d throw me down with the rest of the workers, strip me of everything I knew, and act like I didn’t matter.I dipped the sponge in the water again, squeezing until it dripped, and dragged it over the marble with slow, determined
