Kael's pov

By the time I reached Arian’s house, I hadn’t even realized I’d driven there until I was standing outside his door.

Will he accept me after what I did to him? Is this even the right thing to do? These questions swirled through my mind as my knuckles hovered above the door in hesitation.

The fight with my father was still echoing in my chest, bruising me from the inside out. But it can't be compared to how I treated Arian. I made him look like a fool when I was the real fool. When he was leaving, I didn't even stop him.

Now, here I was, standing at his door, unable to knock because of the overwhelming feeling of confusion.

Pulling myself together, I knocked once. If he was going to reject me, I'll have to find out for myself.

The door opened quicker than I expected, and there he was. Arian. His hair was messy from sleep, his eyes still heavy but soft with that familiarity as they landed on me.

“Kael?” His voice was quiet, but laced with concern. “What are you doing here

Arian “Spill, Arian. Talk to me.”I hated how he could just talk calmly like that, making me melt and forget what he did wrong. He knew he had so much influence on me and he wasn't guilty of using his charm at any possible time. I turned my head, fixing my eyes on the window.“There’s nothing to talk about.”He let out a low laugh, humorless. “That’s the worst lie you’ve ever told. You’ve been avoiding me since yesterday. And you can’t even look at me right now.”My jaw tightened. “So what?”“So,” he leaned closer, “I deserve to know why what's going on in your head.”I stayed silent,my nails digging into the strap of my bag.Kael sighed, running a hand through his hair. “You’re really going to sit there and stonewall me? After everything we spoke about?”“Why not? You didn’t seem to have a problem keeping quiet yesterday,” I muttered before I could stop myself. His brows shot up. “What’s that supposed to mean?”“Forget it,” I said quickly, but my pulse was already racing.“No.” His

Arian The next morning came faster than I imagined. I haven't even gotten over Hazel's words and now, I was going to face Kael in school today. I wish I could skip today's classes and meetings but I can't. What would be my excuse? I'm avoiding Kael because he might be getting married to Hazel? He was the first person I noticed as I entered the college gate. I couldn’t even look at him properly, but I could tell that his long hair was down, covering both sides of his face.He was waiting like he always did, leaning casually against his car, that crooked smile tugging at his lips the moment he spotted me. My heart still moved at the sight, but the memory of Hazel’s arms around him stabbed through me before the smile could sink in.So I walked straight past him.“Arian?” His voice followed me, deep and uncertain.I didn’t answer. I couldn’t. If I opened my mouth, I’d choke.“Arian,” he called again, trailing behind me.“I'm late for class,” I said without glancing at him. His footst

Arian The room fell silent as his lips parted to speak, but before a single word could escape, a knock at the door shattered the stillness. "Are you expecting anyone?" I asked, my curiosity piqued. His response was short. "No," his tone devoid of any emotion or interest. The knock came again, louder and more insistent this time, breaking the peace. I rose from my seat, curiosity getting the better of me, and made my way to the door. As I opened it, my eyes widened in shock. The person standing before me was a sight that knocked sir out of me.Hazel.What was she doing here? Why would she even come to Kael's house at this time of the night? Did he invite her over? Her eyes widened in shock as she took in my presence at the door, and for a moment, she seemed frozen in place. Then, her expression twisted into a look of disgust, her face contorting in distaste. “What are you doing here?” She asked, her gaze raking over me, as if I was something unpleasant she'd rather not look at.

Arian's pov April’s room always had this comforting smell of vanilla and books. Even when I came storming in, pacing like a confused being, she just sat calmly on her bed with her legs tucked beneath her.“So, let me get this straight,” she said, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Kael ditched you after that phone call, and now you’re convinced he’s… what? Hiding things from you?I rubbed the back of my neck, staring at the floor. “I don’t know what to think, April. I heard someone crying on the phone. And his whole face changed, and then he just left me standing there like I didn’t matter.”She tilted her head, studying me. “Arian, have you even asked him about it?”My chest tightened. “What if it was Hazel? What if I was just…” the word stuck in my throat.April sighed, pushing herself off the bed. She crossed the room and put her hands firmly on my shoulders. “Listen to me. It is so obvious you care about him. But you’re letting your fear write the story for you. You don’t know what th

Kael's povThe bar smelled of liquor and perfume, the smell adding to the knot in my stomach. I slumped into a stool near the counter, my head was still a mess. The image of Mom’s tear-stained face was carved into my brain and her sobs echoed in my ears despite the music in the background. I wanted to forget it all but I know I can't do that if I go home. That's why I drove to the bar, maybe the burn of alcohol will help me drown the fury roaring in my chest. The bartender raised his brows. “What’s your poison?”“Whiskey.” My voice came out clipped and flat.“Plan?” he asked.“Yes,” I answered with the same flat tone.He poured and slid a glass filled with amber liquid toward me. I threw it back, welcoming the way it scorched my throat. For a second, the fire in my chest had a companion that wasn’t angry.“You look like hell.” The voice was feminine, smooth but mixed with amusement. I turned my head to see the intruder. It was a woman, probably in her late thirties, sitting two sto

Kael's povHearing my mom's voice over the phone really broke my heart. My chest was tight as I sped home to meet her. She didn't really tell me much over the phone but I knew it would always be dad's doing. I slammed the car into park the moment I reached the gates, barely waiting for the door to swing open before I ran inside. The house was too quiet. The kind of silence that echoes against your ears and fills your chest with unease. Every step echoed too loudly on the floor as I moved through the hallway, my pulse racing faster with each passing second.“Mom?” I called, my voice cutting through the emptiness. No answer.I checked the living room first, then the dining room. It was empty. My gut twisted as I started up the staircase, two steps at a time. I didn’t even know where I was going, but my body moved like it already knew. And then I heard a muffled sob, faint but clear for me to hear it. The sound came from the far corner of the house, the last room down the hall.My che
