XAVIER

The moment that black SUV pulled away from Morrison Hall with Mia inside, something in my chest tore open. A visceral pain in my heart, like someone had reached into my ribcage and ripped out my heart while it was still beating and then proceeded to stab it with a silver dagger over and over again.

I stood in the middle of the quad, watching the taillights disappear around the corner trying to catch my breath and fight Kane for control. My hands were shaking. Kane was howling so loudly in my head I could barely think.

‘STOP THEM! DON’T LET THEM TAKE HER. GO!!!’

“I can’t,” I said out loud. “I can’t just—”

‘IF YOU WON’T, I WILL.’

I knew he wasn’t bluffing but it wouldn’t be smart to go after then. After the text I got from her shitty fiance, it would be best if I lay low and not get her in trouble when she was in their clutches. I need a plan. A good plan on how to get her out.

I ran back to my apartment and grabbed my keys and my phone. Then I was in my car, pulling up her stude

MIAI sat in the backseat of the SUV, wrapped in a blanket someone had given me. Xavier sat beside me, so close our thighs touched. He hadn’t let go of my hand since we got in the car. His thumb traced small circles on my palm. Like he needed to keep touching me to make sure I was real.I understood the feeling. My body ached. My wrists burned where the ropes had cut into my skin. The bruise on my cheek throbbed. But we are together now.I glanced at Xavier. His jaw was tight. His eyes fixed straight ahead. He hadn’t said much since we left the field, he only held my hand and stayed close.Falcon was driving. Xavier’s father sat in the passenger seat. Neither of them spoke either. The silence felt heavy, even a little suffocating.I wanted to ask questions, to know what happened to Silas and understand what he meant about my father. But I was too tired and overwhelmed to do so much as speak. After what felt like hours but was probably only thirty minutes, we pulled up to a house.“Whe

XAVIERThe remaining three men scattered across the field, trying to find cover.Silas dove to the side, shouting orders I couldn’t hear over the ringing in my ears.My eyes drifted to Mia who was still on her knees, her hands tied, completely exposed. My only goal was to get to her and get her out of this place.I didn’t think before I moved, shifting mid-run. I landed on my feet and continued the rest of the way.I positioned myself between her and the gunfire just as a bullet whizzed past my ear.Mia let out a small yelp, followed by a sharp intake of breath. I glanced at her urgently to make sure she was fine. Nothing was amiss. Then I returned my attention back to the scene unfolding in front of me.“Xavier,” I heard her whisper. As much as I wanted to turn and hold her close and tell her everything isgoing to be alright. I couldn’t do any of that right now.More gunshots coming from the tree line made relief wash over me. They are finally here. Two more of Silas’s men went down

  • His Midnight Luna   49: The Meeting

XAVIERThe drive to the meeting point felt like the longest hour of my life.I sat in the back of the SUV, my father driving, Falcon in the passenger seat. Two more vehicles followed behind us with pack warriors. But they’d stay back. Hidden. This had to look like I was coming alone. My leg bounced restlessly. My hands kept clenching and unclenching.“Stop,” my father said without looking at me. “You’re making everyone nervous.”I didn’t stop. The bond in my chest was so faint now I could barely feel it. Like a candle flame about to go out. What if he’d already hurt her? What if she was—No. I couldn’t think like that. She was alive. She had to be alive.“Xavier.” Falcon turned to look at me. “You remember the plan, right?”“Yes.”“Say it back to me.”I gritted my teeth. “I go in alone. Make the exchange. You wait for my signal.”“And if things go wrong?”“They won’t.”“Xavier—”“They won’t,” I repeated, my voice harder.Falcon exchanged a look with my father but didn’t push. The tree

MIAI held my breath as the door swung open slowly and I saw Silas standing in the doorway. He looked exactly the same as always. Wearing an expensive suit like he was heading to a business meeting.Like he hadn’t just kidnapped me.His eyes found mine. Cold, calculating with something dark that made a shiver run down my spine.“You’re awake,” he said. His voice was calm, almost pleasant as he flashed that sick and twisted smile which only made him look more psychotic. “Good. I was starting to worry I gave you too much.”I backed away until my legs hit the bed frame.“Stay away from me.”His smile widened but it didn’t reach his eyes.“Now, Mia. Is that any way to greet your fiancé?”“You’re not my fiancé.” I said through gritted teeth. “I left you."“Yeah, well you were being delusional.” He stepped into the room. The door closed behind him with a heavy thunk. “You were confused and lost. But you’re home now.”“This isn’t my home!” My voice shook as I looked around the tiny room. “Yo

MIAMy head pounded. That was the first thing I felt when consciousness started to creep back in. A dull, throbbing ache that pulsed behind my eyes.I tried to open them but my eyelids felt heavy. Like someone had tied weights to them.Where was I?I forced my eyes open and everything was blurry at first. Dark shapes. Shadows.I blinked. Once, twice, and the room came into focus slowly. The first thing I saw were gray walls and a single small window high up near the ceiling with bars across it. A heavy looking metal door to my left. And I was lying on something hard. A bed frame with a thin mattress. What—The memories played almost like it was a videotape before the thought solidified in my head.Xavier fighting, those wolves and the blood. The hand over my mouth and Silas's voice in my ears.‘I told you not to make me run out of patience.’I sat up so fast that the room spun and my stomach lurched. Terror rolled through me, making bile rise up my throat. I pressed my hand to my mout

XAVIERI ignored the looks Falcon and I got as we walked through the packlands. She wasn’t kidding when she said the pack knew. But I didn’t care what they thought.Someone had left clothes on the porch when we got there.I shifted and pulled them on mechanically. The fabric felt prickly and uncomfortable against my skin.My father sat behind his desk, his expression unreadable.“Sit,” he said without preamble.I didn’t move. “I need to find—”“Sit. Down.”The alpha command rolled over me. My body obeyed before I could fight it.I dropped into the chair across from him, my jaw clenched.“Her father called,” my father said.I went very still. “What?”“Mia’s father called about ten minutes ago.” My father leaned back in his chair. “Apparently his daughter has been taken by her ex-fiancé.”The words didn’t make sense at first. I just stared at him.“Ex-fiancé?” I repeated, rage burning in my veins.“Silas Alaric. Apparently he’s been tracking her for weeks and has been waiting for an opp
