Chapter 4 : Journey

14 years later, Jamie’s Home

"Look what you've gone and done, you bloody idiot!" A shrill light voice sounded.

Jamie was slowly moving towards conscious, but still felt she could not open her eyes. "Too heavy!" she thought.

Jamie identified another voice and they sounded very defensive. "It is not my bloody fault, she called me! I am an elemental God, and I carried out her wishes! It is not my fault I destroy the area!" The voice said.

"Sounds like a fire Ma cooks on!"  Jamie mentally mused.

"You carried out her wishes! You carried out her wishes! You almost killed her!" The light voice had just gone up a few octaves.  Jamie groaned. This was a strange dream and it was not helping her headache!

"Whatever is done is done!" Another voice muttered. Jamie liked the sound of this voice, it reminded her of a flowing river. "She is not dead.." The river sounding voice said.

"Well that’s ok then!" the light airy voice said sarcastically.

"Shut up! It is not time yet. We have to remain dormant until her powers awaken on her sixteenth birthday. " A voice that sounded hard as stone said. "Water, send her back to sleep....she is waking up but she is too drained."

"Poor dear..... sleep now, little one, we'll see you soon!"The river sounding voice said.

Jamie felt a warm glow at her temples and she fell back to sleep.

"What a strange dream she will have to tell Ma and Da when I get up!" Jamie thought as she went back to sleep.

12 hours later.

Jamie felt raindrops on her face. She was confused, as she could have sworn that she was inside. But the rain kept falling down. Slowly, very slowly, she opened her eyes. She saw the grey sky above her and her body was protesting as she moved her body into a sit position. "Ma, I think I have fallen out of the Apple Tree again!" She called out instinctively. She expected to see her Ma running out in her apron, but there was nothing, just the sound of raindrops.

"Ma? Da?" Jamie called out again weakly.

Jamie looked around and suddenly focused on the surrounding scene. It looked like a war zone. There was nothing for at least half a mile apart from black soot. The memories came back in a sudden rush. She had been out hunting. She came back and... her eyes closed in pain. Everyone she knew and loved was gone! She did not even have the bodies to bury! Jamie howled in pain and tears filled her eyes.

Suddenly, a voice spoke in her mind and it said: "Promise me that you go to your uncle’s in Fairbridge!"

Jamie’s mind focused and she knew that is what she had to do. With all her energy, she got to her feet.

"So sorry Ma and Pa. So sorry!" she mumbled.

"That a girl, keep going, Sweetie. You know what they say, every journey starts with a single step! " Jamie heard Ma’s voice in her head.

"I know Ma!" Jamie said she did not care if it was real or not. She just wanted to hear her parents' voices, just for a little while longer.

Jamie lifted one foot in front of the other and started her walk towards Fairbridge.
