After Linda’s arrival, it was strangely calm for a few minutes. Maybe everyone noticed the not-so-warm welcome from Noah. But trust the Black kids never to let anything kill the vibe, especially on vacation.

Sophia, Linda, and I naturally gravitated toward each other, three women in a sea of testosterone. We lounged on daybeds by the infinity pool, sipping from pineapple coconuts like we weren’t mentally calculating everyone’s emotional damage.

Linda, to her credit, was charming. A little too polished, but still likable. She complimented my nails, asked Sophia for skincare tips, and recounted her layover disaster in Paris like it was a scene out of a rom-com. But even with all the effort, I couldn’t ignore how stiff Noah had been since she showed up. Aloof. Quiet. Almost... removed.

Sophia noticed too.

“Alright, spill,” she said, setting her drink aside and turning to Linda. “What’s going on with you and Noah? That welcome? The tension? Off the charts.”

Linda’s smile faltered. “It’s c

  • His Private Chef   Chapter 37

The estate looked like something out of a luxury magazine that evening. The back patio had been transformed. Fairy lights twisted around palm trunks, gold-rimmed champagne flutes glinting under soft lanterns, and the gentle hum of jazz from a live trio tucked near the fountain. Ocean breeze, scented candles, and too many beautiful people in one place. It was almost annoying how rich the air felt.I arrived late with Sophia. She’d made me change twice before letting me out the door. She mentioned something about “vacation fabulous, not wedding guest desperate.” I didn’t even argue. I needed the distraction. The cousins were already gathering when we got there. Jay held court in the center of a circular lounge setup, sprawled across a curved couch like it was built just for him. Kelvin, stunning in a dark short-sleeve button-up that showed off his arms, was laughing with Leo and Owen near the bar. Leo looked like he walked off the cover of Vogue, and Owen had the unmistakable presence o

The brunch buzz had barely faded when I realized I’d left my purse back at the sunroom. Typical. I had been too flustered during brunch, trying not to pass out under Liam’s gaze or get caught in Kelvin’s orbit, to remember something as basic as a handbag.I sighed and turned back toward the estate. The walk through the tiled corridors was quiet. Most of the family had scattered, some retreating to their rooms, others lounging by the pool. The silence stretched around me like a velvet curtain, the kind that made your own thoughts louder. My heels clicked lightly against the marble as I moved quickly, hoping no one would notice me retracing my steps like a confused guest in a luxury showroom.Just as I neared the hallway leading to the sunroom, a voice stopped me in my tracks.“No, I didn’t say that. You’re twisting my words again, Linda.”It was sharp. Frustrated. Familiar.I paused, half-shielded behind one of the massive columns. My eyes caught the edge of the veranda where Noah, Lia

The car slowed as we approached the main estate, and suddenly the ocean breeze felt heavier. It was like it carried expectations instead of salt. Through the tinted window, I caught my first glimpse of the place Sophia had referred to as “the real Black compound.”This wasn't just a compound. It was a palace. The estate rose from the cliffside like it had been carved out of light and old money. White stone walls, clean-cut terraces, endless balconies draped in bougainvillea, and glass windows that reflected every inch of paradise. Security gates slid open as our convoy rolled in, and staff in crisp white linen waited at the entrance like we were royalty returning home. When I stepped out, my sandals touched cool marble. I adjusted my sunglasses, pretending not to gawk, but the way the estate shimmered in the sun made it impossible not to stare.Sophia leaned in. “Don’t let it scare you,” she whispered. “All bark, all noise. That’s this family’s specialty.”“But they still bite?”She s

I opened the balcony doors to my suite and stepped into the morning light. The sun had just broken through the clouds, casting a golden glow across the endless stretch of blue below. The sea shimmered like liquid glass, soft waves brushing the distant shore. The air smelled like salt and hibiscus. The kind of air that told you to slow down, take your time, forget the rest of the world. But forgetting wasn’t so easy when your brain kept replaying last night in crisp, high-definition detail.Liam’s hands. His mouth. The way he looked at me after. The way he didn’t say a word about it this morning.I pressed my hands to the railing and exhaled. I should’ve known better. Should’ve set boundaries. Should’ve reminded myself that he was technically my boss, and whatever this thing brewing between us wasn’t clear, and it wasn’t safe. But knowing something didn’t always stop you from wanting it.Or doing it.I turned away from the view and padded barefoot down the quiet hallway. The villa was

“Emily.”His voice was low. Gentle. Too gentle for someone who had ruined me just hours ago.I stirred beneath the soft weight of the blanket, blinking up into Liam’s face. His expression was calm, but there was something behind his eyes, a flicker of last night’s hunger, now buried beneath polished restraint.“We’re about to land,” he said. “You should get back to your seat.”Right. The jet. The others. Reality.I sat up slowly, my body still humming from everything we’d done in this private room that had no business being so comfortable at thirty thousand feet. My dress had twisted around my thighs, my mouth was dry, and my heart had the audacity to skip at the sight of him. He was fully dressed, perfectly composed, like he hadn’t kissed me breathless and undone me with his mouth somewhere over the Atlantic.Wordlessly, I rose and slipped past him into the softly lit corridor, making my way back to my seat like I wasn’t carrying the memory of him between my legs.—Sophia shot me a
