Alexandra's POV.
It was disheartening. No—shocking. My dad would never call me a disgrace. Not unless he truly believed I had done something terrible. But I hadn’t. Not in any way. Hearing those words from him now shattered my heart into a thousand tiny pieces, like broken glass that could never be put back together. “Dad, what is wrong?” I asked, my voice trembling between quiet sobs. “Why is everyone doing this to me?” My whisper barely escaped my lips, more to myself than anyone else. “Oh? You don’t know?” My father’s voice was laced with cold disappointment as he paused, waiting for me to meet his gaze. I hesitated before lifting my head, searching his face for an explanation. What didn’t I know? Why was he looking at me like this, like I was nothing to him? I am his daughter, his only daughter. His beloved daughter… or at least, I used to be. Maybe that changed the moment he found out I had given everything I owned to Asher. The moment he realized I had gone against his warnings and married a man he never approved of. But still… that wasn’t enough to call me a disgrace. “You are the talk of the whole city! The talk of all of Cape City!! You haven’t seen it yet?” He grabbed the newspaper and slammed it onto the table before tossing it to the floor in front of me. “Asher Sinclair divorced!!!” My heart clenched. My pulse quickened. No… No, no, no. I fumbled for my phone, hands shaking as I unlocked it. The first thing I saw was headline after headline flashing across the screen: “Billionaire Asher Sinclair Announces Divorce!” The End of Cape City’s Most Glamorous Marriage! “Alexandra Scott: A Love Story Turned Scandal!” I staggered backward, struggling to breathe. He really did it. He told the press already. He had made a spectacle of my pain before I could even process it myself. I gripped my phone tightly as my vision blurred with tears. “How could he? How could he humiliate me like this?” I whispered, my voice cracking. “You loved him?” My father’s voice cut through the fog of my thoughts. “But he never loved you, Alexandra. I told you back then, but you didn’t listen!” “It’s not true, Dad! We loved each other!” My voice broke as I desperately clung to the love I once believed in. “You’re a disgrace, Alexandria! Leave! Go back to him, go anywhere, go to your mother for all I care!” His words thundered through the room, and before I could react, he gestured to the guards. I gasped as they grabbed me. “Dad, please—” But they didn’t hesitate. They dragged me out like a stranger like I was nothing. Like I hadn’t spent my whole life in that mansion, running down those halls, laughing as his daughter. The estate gates slammed shut behind me. I stood there, my body trembling, my heart pounding. “It’s over. It’s all over.” I choked on my tears. Then, my phone rang. Through blurry eyes, I looked down. It was Rihanna, my best friend. I swallowed hard and pressed the call button. “Rihanna…” My voice was hoarse. “It’s okay, Alexandria,” she said softly. “Come home to me.” The call ended. Just like that, I had a place to go. Someone to run to. The words I had been aching to hear—it’s okay. But the people I wanted to hear them from the most… didn’t say them at all. I hailed a cab, tossed my luggage in, and before I knew it, I was standing at Rihanna’s doorstep. As soon as she opened the door, she pulled me into a tight embrace. “Alexandria” I broke down in her arms, sobbing uncontrollably. “Theresa betrayed me, Rihanna,” I whispered through my tears. “She slept with Asher. He divorced me because of her.” Rihanna tensed, but she didn’t say anything right away. She just held me, letting me cry until I had nothing left. She didn’t ask for details. She didn’t need to. Instead, she fed me, tucked me into bed, and let me sleep. But I knew Rihanna well enough to know that she wasn’t done. Tomorrow… tomorrow would be the interrogation. --- I woke up to Rihanna pacing the room. “I told you! Everyone did!” she exploded the moment I opened my eyes. “We all warned you, Sandra!” I sat up, groggy but already defensive. “But we were in love, up until six months ago!” I shot back. “You think it was love, but it wasn’t! He only wanted your money, Alexandra. You turned him from a millionaire into a billionaire. Now that he got what he wanted, he doesn’t need you anymore!” Her words stung and my throat tightened. No. No, I refused to believe that. “I choose to believe something different,” I whispered. “That our marriage was real. That we loved each other. That he didn’t have some hidden motive from the start.” Rihanna scoffed. “How did you become like this, Sandra? How?” She shook her head in frustration. “You let Theresa take your husband without a fight—” “What was I supposed to do, Rihanna?” I cut her off, my voice rising. “Kill Asher for betraying me? Kill Theresa and her unborn baby for daring to sleep with my husband?” Rihanna’s expression darkened. “Ex-husband, Alexandria,” she corrected firmly. I felt a sharp pain in my stomach. A wave of nausea hit me. I shut my eyes, pressing a hand to my belly as my breathing grew unsteady. Rihanna’s face softened immediately. She rushed to my side, her anger replaced by concern. “Are you okay?” I nodded weakly. But I wasn’t. “You’re not okay. We’re going to the hospital.” She didn’t wait for my answer. She grabbed her keys, pulled me up, and practically dragged me to the car. I didn’t argue. I couldn’t. The pain was dull but persistent, curling deep in my stomach. The ride was silent, Rihanna focused on the road, and I was lost in thought. By the time we reached the hospital, I already felt better, but I knew she wouldn’t let me leave without getting checked. So I let them run the tests. I expected nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe stress. Maybe exhaustion. Maybe I had been eating poorly. But when the doctor returned, everything changed. “You’re pregnant, ma’am.” The words hit me like a punch to the gut. “Pregnant?” “No. That couldn’t be.” I had been waiting—praying—for this, for three years after I was declared Barren but It wasn’t supposed to happen now. Not like this. Rihanna turned to me, with a look of shock and suspicion. “I thought you said he hadn’t been home for months.” My lips parted, but no sound came out. Then, barely above a whisper, I said it. “He didn’t. The last time he slept with me was five months ago.”Ethan’s POV.The first thought that came to my mind when I saw Alex in the daycare was that she had come to pick up her child just like me but when she started cleaning Stefan up, my perception changed. And it was affirmed when she confirmed she works in the daycare. Stefan must have given her ideas that was why she inquired if I was married which I quickly refuted. Stefan was my sister's kid but I had grown so attached to him that I regarded him as mine. Alex wasn't the only one who had asked if I was married because of Stefan, I had gotten those questions several times and it breaks my heart.Being reminded of how I lost my first girlfriend and fiancee was a pleasant experience at all. “You're not married?" She sounded like she doubted me. “Yeah, I’m not." Switching Stefan to my other arm, I said, “Actually, Stefan is my sister's kid but I had become so attached to him that I regard him as mine." I chuckled, watching as she nodded her head slowly. “Sorry for the misconception.
Alexandra's POV.Two months later.Pulling the crying child to myself, I struggled to keep feeding the other. “Oh sweetie, momma is coming soon okay." I cooed, trying to make the kid stop crying but it was to no avail. Hurriedly but carefully so the child I was feeding won't choke, I fed him and once I was done, I scooped the crying child into my hands, trying all I could to soothe him. Swirling around and singing some rhymes to him, I continued this way until he fell asleep. With a bright smile on my lips, I placed him on the cot before shifting my attention to the rest of the children who were playing. Work at the daycare was so tiring that each day when I returned home I would start aching all over but never for once did I complain about it.The kids here made me forget about the loss of my child.Just as he has said, the coordinator back at the foundation gave me a job as a receptionist in a hotel but I quit after a week of working. When I was alone, I wouldn't help but to z
Alexandra's POV.For the first time in my life, I felt cornered. Up until now, I have already had everything I wanted effortlessly at my beck and call but not anymore. I was no longer the heiress of Scott Enterprise, neither was I the daughter of Edward Scott. Grabbing my duffel bag which held a little of my belongings, I stepped out of the premises and didn't stop walking despite having nowhere in mind to go. Father had given a strict warning that he didn't want to see me anywhere near his property. If he could disown me without batting his eyelids, handing me over to the police for trespassing was an easy task for him too. The look I was getting from passersby made my skin crawl.Without having to ask them, I knew they were wondering why a lady in a wedding gown was walking on the road and clutching a duffel bag. Before I would be accosted by anyone, I decided to change into something else and so without wasting any more time, I made my way to the public bathroom for the firs
Alexandra's POV.The look on father's face showed he had heard every bit of our conversation.Holding my breath in fright, I folded my hands in front of me as the fear of uncertainty loomed in. “When did you join us?" Ethan broke the silence with an awkward chuckle but father didn't respond; instead, he fixed his gaze on me. What am I going to do now? — I questioned, my chest heavy with different thoughts threatening to take away my sanity as the tension in the room became even more thick. “You didn't take out the child like you made me believe." Father spoke for the first time with a voice barely above a whisper but I heard him clearly. The disappointment in his tone which was also laced with anger couldn't be missed too and for a moment, I felt life sipping out of me slowly. Gulping, I tried to speak but words refused to form. I was terrified to my bones.A few days ago, father had clearly told me there were dire consequences if I tried anything stupid; he wasn't bluffing ba
Alexandra's POV.Folding my hands on my thigh, I remained still as the beautician worked expertly on my face to give me the best look father said I deserved. When she was done, the fashion designer in charge of my gown came through, helping me into the customized gown father had gotten for me. To make this marriage leave an indelible mark in the mind of all the guests he had invited, father had spent a fortune. By the time they were done with helping me prepare for my wedding, I wore a different look that made the smile on my lips broaden. “I'm so beautiful." I mumbled, checking out myself in the mirror while the ladies chuckled behind me. “I had only applied a little make up on your face, nothing else. You're already beautiful." The beautician complimented. So not to be left out, the fashion designer also chipped in her own compliment before they both left my room, leaving me to myself. For the next few minutes that followed, I kept staring at my reflection in the mirror as my
Alexandra's POV.The moment the lights went off, there was chaos in the living room as everyone was speaking at the same time, unwilling to listen to what the next person had to say. Flashlights pooped out from all corners but it was not enough to illuminate the whole room, though it managed to cover some places. Looking around, I found my father speaking to a man and immediately after the man took his leave, he hit his palms together to get the attention of everyone present. With a loud and firm voice, he said, “I apologize for the inconveniences, we are going to fix the issue right away.” His words were able to placate the guests and the murmuring died down. Finally, the light was restored and the engagement ceremony continued in a full swing. At the end of it, I retired to my room. I had just stepped into my sleeping gown when I heard a knock and with no doubt, I was certain it was father on the other end. Staring at the door, I made no move towards it. "I know you are not
