DEFOREST

"Father!," I had yelled, standing in the way of the swordsman, blocking his whip from reaching her.

I could not believe I had stood in the way of his command to the swordsman. I had acted swiftly, at the spur of the moment, without even thinking of what the consequences of challenging the alpha was.

I could not afford to watch her die, even though I had no idea what she had done.

The alpha looked at me with so much shock on his face. His eyes glowed with anger. Certainly, he had not seen that coming. He was not used to seeing me not be on the same page with him. This was one area he knew I was better than Declan. I could readily carry out his 'kill' order without bothering to ask him any question.

"Deforest!," he called out, clinging to his fist with so much vigor. It's not a sight I wanna behold again.

"Father," I began, carefully keeping my distance, for I feared his reaction if I took another step closer to him. "What is her offense?"
