**Amelia's POV**

"It has my name on it." I said, barely above a whisper,

He did not respond right away. He simply read the words as if trying to set them ablaze. "You don't have to open it."

"But I want to. It has my name on it." I advanced gingerly.

His fingers persisted too long. His jaw tightened as he hand over it.

With my fingers along the envelope's border, I sat on the edge of the bed. The paper had an ancient feel. Frail. Cool like stone.

Nico stood across from me with an unreadable crossed arms.

I ripped the seal and pulled the single sheet of paper free. Swallowing, I The handwriting was unknown, yet every word sank deeper than the one before it.

You think the Romano surname makes you someone. All it gave you was a shield. Something diverting. Your father built a wall surrounding the truth so high that you can't even see over it.

I know your mother.

I am aware of her conduct.

I know what she did.

Nico also knew about it.

**Amelia’s POV**The music no longer sounded sweet. My father’s presence tainted everything it touched. The laughter, the warmth, the candlelight, it all dulled under his shadow. I stood by the edge of the room, my fingers nervously tightening around the stem of my champagne glass. He moved through the gathering like he belonged, exchanging polite greetings with people who didn’t know what he was. What he was capable of. Perhaps some knew but pretend not to know. But I did.And yet, tonight... I let him stay. Why?Because some selfish part of me, one that I hated still craved even the illusion of a father. One who remembered my birthday. One who brought a gift.Nico stood not far from me, stiff, tense, eyes never leaving my father. His jaw ticked every time the man moved. I knew he wanted him gone. But he hadn’t said a word, not after I begged him to allow him stay.“Do you want me to walk you to the sitting room?” Matteo appeared beside me, offering a calm smile. “You look like you n

  • His Touch, Her Ruin   Chapter Forty

**Amelia’s POV**The day passed in a soft blur.Between fittings, hair styling trials, and the quiet buzz of the staff preparing for the evening, I barely had time to catch my breath. But it wasn’t the flurry of preparations that made my chest flutter with anticipation. It was the fact that this birthday… this celebration… was mine. And Nico had made it happen. When the sun dipped low, casting long golden shadows through the windows, I stood in front of my mirror. My fingers trembled slightly as I clipped the delicate necklace around my throat. The midnight-blue dress shimmered with every movement I made. Then a knock echo, gently.“Come in,” I said.Maria stepped in with a soft gasp. “You look breathtaking, dear.”My cheeks warmed. “Thank you.”She walked over and gently placed a box on the vanity. “Mr. Valente asked me to give you this.”I raised a brow in surprise. “A gift?”Maria smiled. “He said to open it before coming downstairs.”After she left, I slowly untied the silk ribbon

**Amelia’s POV**The morning light streamed through the sheer curtains, warm and soft, but the bed beside me was cold. Again.I turned over, my fingers brushing the empty space Nico had filled just hours before. The sheets still smelled like him, amber, spice, and something darker, something that always made my chest tighten in ways I didn’t understand.Last night replayed in my mind in quiet waves. The kiss. The heat. The way our breaths tangled in the silence, and my first ever release. I had fallen asleep with his arms around me, and for the first time in a long while, I hadn't dreamt of running or falling. Cause it felt so good here. But now, he was gone.I sat up slowly, heart oddly fluttering. After dressing in something simple, a soft cream sweater and fitted jeans. I made my way downstairs, trying to act like everything was normal. But the truth was, nothing felt normal to me anymore. My steps wavered as I entered the dining room.Sitting at the head of the table, Nico was rea

  • His Touch, Her Ruin   Chapter Thirty Eight: Taste Of Sin.

**Amelia’s POV**Later that afternoon, I found myself pacing the hallway outside Nico’s office.I didn’t know why.Maybe I was still rattled from Celine’s words. Maybe I just wanted to prove to myself that I wasn’t weak, that I could stand in front of him without falling apart. Maybe I just wanted answers he wouldn’t give me.The door was open a crack.I peeked through it.I saw him, he stood with his back to me, one hand on the window frame, the other clenched tightly by his side. His shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, sleeves rolled up, hair slightly disheveled like he’d run his hands through it too many times. He looked… tired. And that made something twist in me.I pushed the door slowly, letting it creak. “You look like hell.” I said.He didn’t turn around. “That’s an improvement.”I stepped inside, folding my arms. “You’re avoiding me again.”“I thought you were the one avoiding me.”Touché.I stood behind him, the tension thick between us. “What happened today with Celine… It

  • His Touch, Her Ruin   Chapter Thirty Seven: Jealous

**Amelia's POV**I didn’t know what annoyed me most, if it my own traitorous heart or the look on Celine’s face as she sat across from Nico at breakfast, smiling like she belonged there.I could barely touched my food.Even though Nico didn’t seem particularly engaged in the conversation, but he wasn’t brushing her off either. He wasn’t ignoring her hand that casually brushed his arm or the way she tilted her head just so when she spoke. My spoon clattered against the plate louder than I intended. I stood without a word, ignoring Maria’s concerned glance and her voice as I walked out of the dining hall with my stomach burning. Why did I care? Why did I care that she was laughing beside him? That he didn’t push her away? That he didn’t follow me?Ugh. This wasn’t who I was.I wasn’t jealous. I couldn’t be.I'm not that stupid.Needing air and a breathing space, I turned to the courtyard.Even though the wind was harsh, the sun was soaring high. Shaking my hands slightly, I occupied mys

  • His Touch, Her Ruin   Chapter Thirty Six: The shadow between us

**Amelia’s POV**The night was eerily silent.Too quiet.I laid still on my back that turned toward him, trying not to think about the warmth of his presence behind me. Nico hadn’t moved. Not once. No words, his breath not too close. He had stayed still, still in a respectful and careful way, as though he was afraid that touching me would burn us both.I hated how much I noticed that. How much my heart raced in the silence. I was lost in thought until I fell asleep. When morning came, I turned slightly, expecting him to be gone like he always does. But he wasn’t. He was here, wide awake.Nico sat against the headboard, his legs stretched out, he was still in his yesterday’s shirt. Dark circles bloomed beneath his eyes. One of his hand rested near me on the bed, not touching, just close. A silent reminder that he never left.“You didn’t sleep,” I whispered. He turned his head slowly. “Didn’t want to.”I sat up, pulling the covers around my waist. “Why?”His eyes dropped to the floor. “
