It was exactly 7:30 pm when the doorbell rang. Esme ushered me downstairs to welcome her parents. Kieran was still in his room getting ready.

Esme turned to me before she opened the door,

“Relax, you'll do great” I smiled at her words of encouragement. The door was opened and I was soon face to face with Mr and Mrs Lightwood.

Both Kieran and Esme bore a striking resemblance to their parents. Kieran looked more like his father and Esme like her mother. They were probably in their late forties but managed to look almost a decade younger.

“Mum, dad” Esme exclaimed as she threw herself into a hug with them while smiling. Her parents hugged her back, matching her energy as they smiled at the reunion.

I almost felt like an outsider just standing there, staring and ruining their moment. I smiled awkwardly when their eyes fell on me.

“And you must be Eva” Mr lightwood said,

“Yes sir”

“Oh, call me Ralph, sir makes me sound like I'm 50”

“But you'll be 50 in two years dad” Esme pointed out
