Earis

I could smell him. The bloody wolf. Even with his desperate attempt to cloak his reek. The same hound that had been sneaking around my college dorm for days.

There was no need to call for backup—he was heading straight for my traps. Finally a kill worth my name.

He wasn't just another Omega—I could tell by the way he moved. I flicked the Fae's bracelet, and heat surged under my skin as it boosted my speed to match his.

I let loose the first arrow aiming for his hind legs to force him off balance and blind him to the traps.

He hopped over it exactly as I anticipated and landed firmly on the iron trap covered in snow. Then came the snap of bone as the trap he landed on locked him in place.

He growled angrily at me, his dark fur rose as he bared his teeth. But it was already done. It seemed almost as easy as an Omega.

I laced the next arrow with wolfsbane and aimed straight for his heart. But the moment I let it loose he was gone. Vanished into the snow like a shimmer of ice.

My heart skipped a beat.

Before I could pull the next arrow I heard a snap of bone behind me. I hauled over sending the next arrow but I missed.

My breath caught when I saw him — shifted, but not as hideous as the usual Omegas.

His emerald green eyes weren’t full of beastly rage — they scanned me like he wanted to strip me bare. Before I could pull another arrow he was gone. Just like before. No blurs or sounds of movement.

“Just where I wanted you, little hunter.” A cold, deep voice whispered in my left ear sending shivers down my spine.

I turned but there was no one. How is he so fast?

Heat swirled within me as I tried to catch my breath. This confirms it. He is a Lycan and I'll be dead if I make a single mistake.

“Calm yourself, little hunter. If I wanted your life, I would have taken it. But I crave something sweeter than your death,” the voice spoke again.

I couldn't breathe. My hands trembled as I tightened my grip on the arrow ready to let loose the moment I saw even a blur.

Something touched my shoulder and my head turned instinctively. I knew the tap was a trick but before I could pull myself together I felt my body in the air and the arrow tip over leaving me unarmed as my body fell softly into a heap of snow.

Before I could catch his movement he pulled off the Fae's bracelet and my body slammed against a tree.

I felt his hot breath on my neck as he pinned my hands above my head and his feet locked my boot in place.

And just like the dog he was he sniffed me, hard. Like he wanted to suck the soul out of my body.

My jaw tightened as irritation clawed at my skin.

“Bloody hound!” I growled as I squirmed under his grip.

“I've waited too long for you, Earis Lockwood,” he grinned as his tongue grazed my cheeks, slow, wet, and hard like he was trying to taste my sweat and fear.

A different jolt of electricity struck me at the mention of my name.

But before I could even let the thought in, a sharp pain surged through my neck sending heat across my body and a loud scream reverberated off my throat before I could hold it back.

He fucking bit me!

His grip on my hands loosened as he sank his fangs deeper into my neck. I slid my right hand off and pulled my hairpin—two sharp metal rods shaped like chopsticks, letting my hair loose as I shoved them hard into his neck.

He didn't flinch or acknowledge the pain. He just took a step back, blood drooling from the pin in his neck.

“Now, you can't escape me, Little hunter.” He smirked and in a blur, he was gone.

My knees buckled as I grabbed my neck applying pressure on the bite mark as it surged with heat.

My blood tainted the snow as my vision blurred.

“Earis! Earis!” Cassian's voice echoed through the ringing in my head. But the only sound I could hear was that of my thundering heartbeat.

I rose to my feet refusing to let anyone see me weak.

I ripped my shirt. Then tied it to the bite on my neck which felt like larva on my skin.

I grabbed my crossbow, then staggered out of the woods in the direction of my car.

I slammed the door shut the moment I got in. My hands trembled as I pulled the rear view mirror in place and I could see the blood already soaked on the cloth around my neck.

I pulled the knife from the side of the driver's seat, then chugged the remaining bottle of alcohol I found in the passenger seat. Sweat pooled down my face as the bite on my neck flared hotter.

I took a deep breath trying to stop my hands from trembling. Then I pulled off the cloth on my neck ready to cut the bite off.

The knife in my hands slipped off the second I laid eyes on what was on my neck.

The bite was gone.

But something else was there.

A mark—black, jagged, curled on my neck. A symbol branded into me like a goddamn tattoo, and it was sizzling hot.

My breath caught in my lungs as my hands trembled. I was having a fucking panic attack.

What the fuck did he do to me?! I need to get away from here!

I twisted the key, turning the car on. I couldn't wait for Cassian or Vanya I had come hunting with, I wouldn't dare let them see. I just drove like my life depended on it.

With every breath I took the mark surged with even more heat. I pushed the gear harder driving at full speed.

I hadn't gotten to a mile when something hopped in front of the car and I ran over it.

My feet pressed hard on the brake and I ran out of the car. A loud ring tore through my head as I saw the body I had just run over.

A young lady. Pale skin, red hair. Her eyes were wide open and her body twisted like a paper doll from the impact of the car.

What the fuck is happening? My knees buckled to the ground as I tried to catch my breath.

Did I just kill someone? What the fuck did he make me do?!

  • Hunt Me, Mark Me    159. A perfect morning for roleplaying

Earis I took a deep breath long enough to make sure I was no longer dreaming before I opened my eyes. The scent of clean sheets filled my lungs, and I could feel the cold of the AC brushing against my skin. The air was mixed with that maddening smell of him… dark, musk, and strangely impossible to ignore. It wrapped around everything, clinging to the room like it belonged here. I could feel the ridge muscles of his bicep under the soft, feathery pillow and his firm chest behind me. His free hand was carefully tucked under my belly like he also had to include Lanfia in the cuddle, just like it had been every morning for the past two weeks. His breath was heavy, fanning the back of my neck, and his heart thumped slowly. A faint smile tugged at my lips. If love could have a smell, it was definitely this. “Girl, don't you just love this life? Let's remain in his warmth for the rest of today,” Skylar purred. I haven't felt this free and peaceful in forever, and it was scary to get us

  • Hunt Me, Mark Me    158. The extinguisher to her flames

MagnusI could smell the cabin burning from the main road. Akira was already fidgeting, mumbling some spells. The air in the car was thicker than the factory air. My heart wouldn't stop racing… my thoughts slammed violently inside my head as I tried to figure out what the fuck was happening. Could it be that Aaliyah had broken Akira's spell? Or the hunters had found the cabin and burnt it down! Earis wouldn't be able to escape because of the spell Akira cast on her. Marble pushed the gear harder, trying to get to the cabin on time. The second we were within the barrier, Marble came to an abrupt stop, and I dashed out, shifting and lunging towards the cabin. My ears prickled, and I heard muffling sounds. “Earis, you have to calm yourself. You're burning the whole cabin to the ground!” Clarissa barked. I lunged forward, jumping as high as I could. I could hear the slow, steady thump of Earis's heartbeat, and the loud, fast thump of Lanfia's. I heard nothing about Aaliyah, and th

Earis What could I say? I was terrified out of my mind. I couldn't see the barrier, but I could see everything around the cabin… The pile of bodies Clarissa had stacked over at the edge to burn, those she had burned… the mess Magnus had made in the woods when he chased me. Since the roof was damaged, I got a clear sight of Aaliyah and Vanya, and I had to strain my eyes to see the last person who was seated in one of the empty rooms. Is that the fucking doctor? What the hell? “How the hell do I get down from here?” I snapped. “It's easy, just think of where you want to go and your body is bound to obey,” Hela responded. I shut my eyes, trying to block out the noise and the sound of my own heart racing inside my chest. With everything happening, and even though Magnus had left me trapped in this cabin, all I wanted was him. Not to save me, but to give me an explanation. Slowly, I thought of being low until the ground, more like I wanted to feel my feet on the ground. And I could f

Earis Something was wrong, I could feel it from the way the air shifted around me. I felt like I had been having the same conversation with Vanya for hours, like I was stuck in a time loop, and each time I had a different thought on how I wanted it to go, but it still ended up the same way. “I can't believe you guys graduated without me…” I teased, and Vanya chuckled. “We'll let you guys have the room. I'll be outside if you need me, little wolf,” Magnus said, and weirdly, he had a smile on his face, and they all walked out, shutting the door behind them. That was the first flaw. I had been trying to put a smile on his face after the doctor had examined me. And he had been acting weird since he walked out that door until now. I tried to use Skylar's ability to listen to what was going on outside the door, but it was dead silent. The smile on my face flattened, and I turned to Vanya. “Do you notice anything weird?” I asked, and her brows furrowed like always. “What do you mean,

Magnus In one swift motion, I ripped the bottom of my shirt off and tied it around my pinky finger. My bone had dissolved, and the pain was excruciating. Blood gushed from the wound as I struggled to cut the blood flow. There was no time to think of the pain. I had to get the fuck out of here. A sharp pain pierced my chest, right where I had the tattoo of Skylar, and instantly, I knew something was wrong with Earis. I shot to my feet immediately, grabbing the burner phone and turning to Josh, who stood frozen like he had seen a ghost. I grabbed him by the shoulder and slammed him against the wall. “Who are you? What did you make me do?” He stuttered, his body trembling against my grip. My eyes glowed red, and I let out a low growl.“Like I said before, today is your lucky day, Josh,” I smirked, trying to hide the pain and my trembling knees as the wolfbane coursed through my veins and into my heart. “W…what are you?” He stammered, his eyes already glistening with tears. I pulle

  • Hunt Me, Mark Me    154. Close call

Magnus I actually thought the containment feed line was going to be a large room filled with drums of liquid wolfbane, but my expectations were cut short when I walked into a small room with barely enough space for three people. “Sir, you should wear a mask,” Josh said, handing me one. I took it from him and put it on, still maintaining my distance by standing at the entrance of the room. “Go ahead,” I ordered, folding my arms as my gaze fixed on the countdown timer blinking red on the wall. 0:59.This was it, everything today has been about, and we were almost done. For a brief moment, a glimpse of Earis’s face crossed my mind… the curve of her smile, the way her eyes softened when she looked at me. Stigha wasn’t the only one missing her warmth. I couldn’t wait to go back to her. It had barely been twenty-four hours since I left, yet it felt like it had been a week. Every second away from her stretched endlessly. All I wanted was to hold her again, to take her far from that god
