Chapter 6

 (Carlisle)

I’d just finally left my hiding place in the bathroom when I heard footsteps in front of the door, my heart skipped a beat before I pushed myself out of my fear and stared at the door.

It was Damon and a woman who looked so much like Arabella, she had to be his mother, she had the same color of hair as his, a beautiful golden brown, she had green eyes just like her daughter and she looked regal, my heart ached as it did everytime I saw a mother around her child, what would my other look like? Did I truly take the color of her hair? Did she have the love for me I see other mothers have for their children?

Snapping out of my reverie, I find Damon and his mother right in front of me, “Carlisle, meet my mother, Emerald, mum, my mate”

I stretch my hands towards hers in the gesture of an hand shake and shaking her head, she pulls me into a hug, immediately I’m wrapped by her scent, which inadvertently reminds me of the scent I’d remembered from the years of hugging my aunt and I choke back tears, blinking my eyes before my mood is noticed, letting go of me, Emerald pulls me gently towards the bed and immediately begins firing off questions at me, as I hear her ask how I got here, I’m immediately lost in thought with the memories of my brothers having me thrown out of the city, would my father be buried now?

“Carlisle?” Blinking, I look at Damon in confusion, smiling at me, he replies my confused stare, “I asked if you have any questions to ask me? Is there anything you’d like to know about me or my people?”

“Oh yeah, uhm, how are you all so old and yet so young? I mean, you are 100 or something and you look 25 and also, from the books I’ve read about other worlds, the Alpha position isn’t passed down to those who have completed the mating ritual but you have just found your mate, me? And you have been an alpha already?” Noticing I’ve been rambling, I stop to see Damon smiling at me, “I’m sorry, I got lost with all the questions in my head”

“It's fine. To answer your questions, first my father the former alpha was killed in an brutal accident when I was just 18 and the post could not be left open, I was the Alpha’s direct heir and I had to step up, if not, we would have been seen as weak and been under risk of attack from other packs, especially as my pack is so close to the edge of the forest, we are the most vulnerable.” Nodding at him to continue, he gives me a boyish grin and flexes his fingers as he delves into replying to my other question.

“As for how we do not age, the goddesses that created us decided that it would not benefit the body carrying our wolf to be so prone to aging. As aging fastens weakness and other illnesses that come with getting older, you can say we have an elixir of youth. Any other questions?”

Letting the information I now have fill my mind, I think of other things I would like to know, “is it not weird that someone from another world is your Luna? Does that happen often? Or am I a rarity? Would I, a fae, be accepted by a pack of wolves as their Luna?”

Glancing at his mother, he covers her hands with his, as if to bring her into the conversation, she smiles at me and closes her eyes as if deep in thought and starts talking, “there has been a prophecy around the wolves for centuries, it’s been made into a rumor as no one has ever seen it actually happening, I forgot about it too, I was reminded of it by the healer that came to check on you while you were unconscious.”

I look up at Damon and see that he is as confused about what his mother is saying as I am, squeezing her hands, he urges her to speak, “what rumor or prophecy, mum?”

“Well, you see, a thousand years ago, there was a war going on between the wolves and another the night walkers, they were stronger than our people, the wolves at the time so the war was going in their favor, until, the wolves joined hands with another group of otherworldliness and the faes, we only knew it was the faes offering their help because the then fae king asked for a reward but the other species just wanted the wars to end as they claimed to be guides of peace. The reward the fae king asked for was that some day, a fae would be allowed to merge with a wolf to strengthen the alliance between both otherworldly species, the guardians too agreed that it seemed like something that may benefit them and the oracles foretold a prophecy about it, that children born from Fae, guardian would be the mate to an offspring of the wolves.”

“Wow” I gasped.

“Yes and the prophecy was passed on to descendants in preparation for the day but overtime, it became forgotten and more of a rumor as no Alpha ever got a Fae or Guardian as a mate and the guardians went into hiding a few hundreds years ago, we don’t even know what they look like except they had white hair... oh” snapping her hands from Damon’s hold on them, Emerald stares at my hair, feeling self conscious after her description of the guardians, I pull at my hair and return her gaze, bringing her hand slowly to my face, she fingers my hair gently, “Carlisle, are you by any chance the child of a guardian?”

Shaking my head, I reply her, “I don’t know, I’ve never met my mother, the only memory I have of her is a scent, my father never told me about her, as she was a mistress to him, he was already married to the queen of Faes when they had me, so I assume she had to leave. He did tell me that my mother had white hair”

As I finish speaking, there’s silence in the room, as though we are all lost in thought, I turn to add more to the conversation but we all snap our heads to the door as someone barges in, it’s the maid Aurora who is trying to catch her breath, “I’m sorry Alpha, Lunas but we are being attacked by trolls”

“Trolls?”
