Chapter 17 - Can’t think
Nevaeh
I release a relieved breath as soon as the final bell rings. Time to go home. Walking out with Jez, I wave as she walks to her car. Her lips are curled into a pout, and her shoulders are slumped. “Yuck, I have a late shift tonight. If I get a break, I’ll call you later, okay?”
“Yeah, have fun,” I call out as I make my way to my jeep. At that moment, I resolve to not let Mikhail’s dismissal get to me. As Jez said, there are plenty of fish in the sea. I’ll get over Mikhail eventually.
On my way home, I make the decision to reach out to my dad. Maybe it’s not that he’s avoiding me, maybe he’s as busy as he says, and I'm just oversensitive. When I was little, my mom would reprimand him for being so busy that he would forget to eat. Maybe that’s why he forgot my birthday.
That’s why I decided that I would take lunch with my dad. I remember
Chapter 18 - The signs are thereMikhailI can hear the boys stirring in the other room as the day begins. It’s Saturday, but my thoughts are centered on the events of the night before. After talking to Alex last night, I went back to my room, feeling even more conflicted. My wings kept stirring restlessly, and my eyes wouldn’t stop glowing. It’s as if my body didn’t want to deny its claim to Nevaeh. I tried to relax, but my body wouldn’t let me. Even the thought of rejecting Nevaeh makes my mouth burn with acid. After a few restless hours, I realize that sleep is not an option. Seeing no other recourse, I unfurl my wings and let them flutter around me. Eventually, my wings grow tired, and the glow faded away. However, it worried me that I couldn’t control them.Walking to the bathroom, I try not to let my exhaustion weigh me down. A knock at the door startles me from my musings. Drying my hands, I open the door. It’s Ro
NeveahMy vision blurs, and my head pounds as I slowly come awake. I’m tucking myself back into my comforter when I hear something scraping on the floor. Brow furrowed, I rise from my perch and listen for the sound again. As I listen, I sift my fingers through my hair and recall the events of the night before. I remember meeting Azazel, going to the roof, kissing him, and seeing Mikhail.Mikhail! He brought me home last night. He must have carried me in and tucked me into bed. Embarrassment envelopes my body at the thought of him tucking me in. Closing my eyes, I groan in disgust. Shit, what did I do last night? The scraping sound echoes across the room again, startling me from my morbid thought. My eyes widen when I notice the time. It’s ten in the morning. Pushing back the covers, I peer behind the bedroom door and see nothing. It’s only when I step out of my room and peer down the stairs that I spot my mo
MikhailShe follows me silently as I continue across the street until we’re both in front of my house. “Before we go in, I want to warn you that my brothers are a pain in the ass. They’ll probably stare at you and generally make you uncomfortable, but they mean well.”Nevaeh nods her head and looks at the door expectantly. “Don’t worry, I’ve handled Rowan. I’m sure the others won't be any different.”Just as I’m about to open the door, Rowan slams it open. His eyes widen at the sight of our entwined hands. “Hey, you’re back. Good, cause Alex is looking for you. He’s concerned because there’s Dodge Hellcat in the garage. He asked the boys and me, but we have no clue where he came from, which leaves you as the culprit. Did you steal a car, bro?” He asks excitedly.Brushing past him, I lead Nevaeh up the stairs until we reach Alex’s office. I knock on the door. Al
NevaehAfter closing the door, I walked up the stairs and throw myself on the bed. My phone vibrates again with a phone call. It’s Jez. “Hey girl, just checking up on you to see how your night with the golden hunk went.”I laugh at her statement. She thinks I went home with Azazel. Resting my head on my pillow, I smile, thinking about the events of last night and today. “Actually, I didn’t go home with him. I went home with Mikhail.”I pull the phone away from my ear at the sound of her shocked squeal. “What!? How the hell did that happen?”Taking a deep breath. I recount the events leading up to today. Jez remains silent the whole time, which unnerves me a bit. In fact, it’s so quiet that at some point, I wonder if the call was disconnected. Thankfully, another squeal resounds through the receiver, informing me that she’s still on the line. “Are you serious, Nev? Holy shit, you went home w
MikhailBreathing heavily, I meld my lips to Nevaeh as my hands learn the wonders of her body. I’m about to slide my hands between her thighs when suddenly my door bursts open. Rowan and Kell run in, rambling in excitement as Nevaeh and I struggle to sit straight. Both boys stop dead in shock as they take in the scene before them. Seeing that Nevaeh is half-naked, I pull her close to my chest and cover her with my body. Damn my idiotic brothers for interrupting such a perfect moment. “What the hell, guys! Get the fuck out!” I yell out. Unfortunately, both morons are still standing there with their mouths gaping open. Angry, I throw my pillow, startling them out of their shock as the pillow rams into Kell’s chest. “Get…out!”To my mortification and amusement, Rowan and Kell wordlessly turn to leave but bump into each other on the way as they run out the door. They look like two bumbling fools as they
Nevaeh“Hello, luv. How is this git treating my favorite girl?”I smile at Azazel’s comment. He loves messing with Mikhail. I can see that there’s a genuine friendship between both men, and it makes my heart melt. Mikhail told me about Azazel and his father’s history, and I was blown away by Azazel’s devotion after so long. Knowing that he and Mikhail are now friends makes my heart flutter with happiness that Mikhail has Azazel’s friendship.Tonight, we’re at Azazel’s club, The Garden of Eden, having some fun. Azazel invited us to a private party on his rooftop for drinks and food. The party is located on his rooftop with a gorgeous view of the city.I laugh as Azazel and Mikhail banter with each other. They act more like brothers than Rowan and Mikhail, which is funny because Azazel is hundreds of years old. At the sound of Azazel’s comment, Mikhail gives him a killing glare. “Act
Chapter 24 - Ignited by her touchMikhailWe’re in literature class right now watching Romeo and Juliet. Nevaeh and I are sitting in the back of the classroom, enjoying our closeness. My heart stutters with every touch of her fingers against mine, and my mind is running a mile a minute. I can’t stop thinking about finding a private spot to release some of our pent-up stress. I can tell she’s thinking the same thing because she gives me a heated smile when I look at her. Unable to take another moment, I take her hand and slide it beneath my arm. “Quit teasing me, princess,” I mumble softly.Over the past few weeks, we’ve settled comfortably together as a couple. We go to school together, eat together, make love, argue, and make love again. It’s amazing.I also had to tell Alex about Azazel. I mean, if Azazel was going to be part of my life, Alex needed to know. He didn’t seem happy about our friendship. But a
NevaehI can’t believe this is happening. Mikhail just asked Azazel to mark me. I don’t know what to feel. Azazel clears his throat, startling me from my panicked thoughts. “How about we go into my study.”Swallowing hard, I look at him and wave my hand nervously. He doesn’t smile, which only heightens my anxiety. His eyes are distant, and his body is stiff. However, I can’t stop looking at his brooding features. He is so beautiful with his golden looks, broad shoulders, and angelic face that I’m floored. It’s difficult to think of him being a demon, considering how gorgeous he is. I mean, come on, books always describe demons as being ugly with hooves and horns. Azazel is none of those things.Somewhere in the recesses of my mind, I can admit that I feel something for him. But it doesn’t compare to what I feel for Mikhail. I love Mikhail with a passion that exceeds anything in the world. With Azazel
