The faint sounds of footsteps and conversation in the hallway were muffled by the door's silent closure behind them. With only one old-fashioned lamp on the desk and the aroma of sandalwood and old books, the study was serene.

Kaiser remained straight, shoulders set, hands still in his pockets. His father appeared to be contemplating something important as he leaned against the wide window, which was illuminated by the morning sun, and gazed out over the estate grounds.

Peter Eirian didn’t turn to face him immediately.

“You’ve put that girl’s life in danger,” he said at last, his voice low but steady.

Kaiser's mouth clenched. "It was you who claimed to like her." At last, Peter turned and replied, "I do." His eyes were keen, yet his face was unreadable. "I'm saying this now for that reason."

Kaiser raised a brow. “I’m protecting her.”

Peter stepped closer, folding his arms. “Not enough. You may think she’s just your wife on paper, but if anyone even suspects she means something to you

The sirens didn’t blare. The alarms didn’t scream. But something was wrong. Kaiser sprinted through the corridor like a storm in a tailored suit. His coat flared behind him, boots thudding heavy against the marble floor. The manor, for all its vastness, had turned silent. Not quite silent. Like it was holding its breath. He passed a servant in the hallway. She froze at the look on his face. He didn’t stop. “Enoch,” he barked into the phone, “what’s your status?” Static. Then— “She’s safe. For now,” Enoch's low voice finally replied, breathless. “Intruder’s in the east wing. Two men down.” Kaiser’s knuckles whitened around the phone. “What do they want?” “They’re not speaking. They’re shooting. Trained. Fast.” Kaiser turned the corner sharply, passing a wall-length painting of his father’s estate in the north—an inheritance he’d never claimed. “Hold her room. I’m coming.” — **Izora’s Room** Izora crouched inside the narrow closet, breathing fast. The silk of her nightg

Kaiser's office was dimly lit, featuring only the gentle shine of amber light coming from a lamp with a glass shade atop the desk. The golden glow cast long shadows over the luxurious mahogany shelves brimming with unread books and the neatly stacked files he wouldn’t need to manage again. He lounged in the leather chair, tie loosened, blazer draped over the back, sleeves pushed up to his elbows. His fitted black shirt clung to the muscles of his torso like a second skin. He seemed fatigued—not just weary. Drenched in reflection. The quiet hummed in his ears. The soft ticking of the clock on the wall throbbed like a timer. The remnants of the meal remained—roasted garlic, red wine, and a touch of something more acrid. An emotion similar to regret. He shut his eyes and breathed out slowly. His mind wandered back to that morning. No one had ever caressed him in that way for years—not since his mother would smooth the hair from his face while he feigned sleep as a child. A

Izora was brushing her hair in quiet, distracted strokes, still caught on the way Kaiser had held her that morning. His cheek pressed warm to her stomach, his breath slow and uneven like he hadn’t slept deeply in years until then.He smiled. Not smirked. Not threatened. Not commanded.Smiled.And for the briefest moment, she’d seen him not the mafia prince, not the cold strategist, not the man who walked in shadows and spoke in knives but the boy buried somewhere beneath all of that. Just a man who had curled into her warmth as though it were home. She quickly pushed the memory out of her mind. That softness was a crack in his armor, not a door. And she knew better than to walk through it.The door creaked open, and the maids entered silently, moving like practiced clockwork with soft arms full of silks and lotions.“Dinner, Mrs. Eirian,” one of them murmured.Izora flinched at the title. It still felt like a lie sewn too tight across her chest. They held out a dress lilac with silver

The moment Kaiser closed the door behind him with a soft click, Izora let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. Her fingertips still grazed the skin of her stomach, warm where his cheek had rested just moments ago. Her heart hadn’t stopped racing since the moment she’d woken to find him there, sprawled across her like a slumbering stormcloud. She was still trying to process the feel of his solid, heavy, warm body when the soft shuffle of movement caught her attention. She froze.Kaiser’s mother hadn’t left with him.The faint scent of jasmine and musk teased the air just before Celestine Eirian came into view, gliding from the far end of the suite like a phantom in heels. The rustle of her long dove-gray dress accompanied her every step. The silk clung to her figure with elegant precision, the fabric shifting like smoke around her as she moved with poised authority.Izora sat up slightly, confused. “Mrs. Eirian—?”“Oh, no need for that,” Celestine said with a silky smile,

Soft golden designs appeared on the navy walls as a faint beam of early light filtered through the thin curtains. Aside from the soft ticking of the old wall clock and the faint singing of birds outside, the room was quiet. Izora opened her eyes and looked up at the weird ceiling above her. A faint ache pulsed through her abdomen, keeping her grounded in the present moment. Kaiser's head rested heavily on her abdomen, his dark hair tangled and reflecting the morning sun. She shifted a little, then realised what was causing the pressure. Her breath caught. Now looking calm and youthful, the notorious mafia king was laid across her midsection, his arm slung around her waist in a possessive manner. It was startling how different this week's mood was from his normal powerful appearance. Is this also a part of the act? With her fingers itching to glide through his hair, she contemplated. She cautiously reached out her hand, letting it hover just above his head while she felt the warmt

Sunlight filtered through the estate's arched windows, casting a warm shine over the beautiful mansion's features. Outside the immaculate gardens, birds twittered pleasantly, but the air within the Eirian house was tense.Izora faced the full-length mirror while a maid secured the last clasp on her dark emerald dress. The designer gown embraced her figure with graceful accuracy, the material complementing the intricate patterns of the caverns etched into the stone columns across the estate, an intentional gesture by the chief maid to impress Kaiser’s famously demanding mother. "You resemble a stunning mermaid, Mrs. Eirian," the maid murmured before backing away with a courteous bow. Izora did not reply. Her fingers trembled softly as they touched the gown's edge. She was worried about what happened next, not about the outfit or the formality of the occasion.Kaiser’s parents had arrived. She heard them before she saw them. Footsteps down the main hall. Low voices, one sharp and comm

Izora saw Enoch leaning against the doorway of one of the sitting rooms as she heard her footsteps echoing down the marble corridor, swift and uneven. Wearing charcoal pants pressed to a razor's edge, a fitting black shirt that shaped to his slender figure, and sleeves pushed up just enough to show the edge of a watch that likely cost more than a year's rent, he exuded his customary quiet dominance. His eyes were as piercing and impenetrable as ever, and his white-blond hair fell just over one eye.She halted a step away from him, panting heavily. “Enoch,” she said, attempting to calm her voice. "I require your assistance." He cocked his head, his eyes squinting just a bit. “I have to phone my mom,” she stated. “She will feel concerned.” More than a day has passed, and she hasn’t received any news from me. She is unwell. “If I don’t reach out to her, she’ll believe something is wrong with me.” Enoch remained silent for an extended moment. A subtle tension in his jaw suggested a per

As Kaiser's hand curled around her phone and snatched it away before she could respond, his eyes hardened. Holding it between two fingers, he held it as if it were something offensive, something that was not worthy of him but that he had to control. His voice was as cool and smooth as the clink of a blade on stone when he added, "You won't be needing this."The heartbeat of Izora quickened. With every shaky stride ahead, the delicate fabric of her light lavender nightgown brushed against her skin, her heart pounding in her chest. Before their conflict erupted, she hadn't found the time to change. Her hair stuck to her shoulders and pressed against her rosy cheeks, still damp from the shower. "Return that," she said, her tone more cutting than she intended. Kaiser raised the phone out of her reach with serene arrogance, sliding it into the inner pocket of his tailored dark suit jacket—a deep charcoal that corresponded to the menacing expression on his face. The material hardly shifte
