Chapter 2

Author: Anonymous
Frederick seemed distracted throughout the entire drive. But once he entered the private room at the restaurant and saw the person he'd been hoping to see, he instantly perked up.

In front of Elaine, he acted like a picture-perfect boyfriend and went out of his way to take care of me.

"Your period is about to start soon, baby. I figured you'd feel better if you had something warm, so I ordered you a hot drink," he said in a caring manner. "Don't eat this either. You can't handle spicy foods, and this one's too spicy for you."

I didn't know what was going on back then. I thought Frederick's attentiveness was simply another way of showing me that he loved me. Little did I know, everything he did was merely a ploy to make Elaine jealous.

Whatever he was doing now was a perfect example. He was doing everything he could to make sure I was comfortable, yet his eyes kept drifting toward the woman sitting across from us.

"Wow, Frederick! You've been together for a long time now, but you're still treating Nancy like a princess. You're literally a model boyfriend," said one of our course mates.

"Exactly! I'm so jealous, Nancy. It's not easy to find someone who loves you this much," added another. "The two of you should get married as soon as you graduate. We'll be waiting for our wedding invitations!"

Our course mates laughed and teased us. But the moment they brought up marriage, both Elaine's and Frederick's expressions changed.

Elaine's eyes welled up with tears. She picked up her glass and downed the entire drink in one go.

"Yeah, I'm so jealous of Nancy. It must be nice to have someone who loves you so much," Elaine said. "I'm all alone. Even the person who promised he'd always be there for me as we grew up has abandoned me."

After a pause, she added, "Sorry, guys. I'm not feeling very well, so I'm going to head home. Enjoy the rest of the evening."

Before she left, she cast a tearful glance at Frederick. That fleeting look was enough to pull his attention away from me completely.

Frederick didn't know what to do.

"Elaine? Elaine!" he called after her.

He shot to his feet and ran after her, leaving me alone with everyone else.

"What's going on? Do you want to check on them, Nancy?"

I was at a loss for words, and I didn't know what to do.

I was certain that Frederick was doing everything he could to cheer up his beloved childhood friend. I had no interest in getting involved, but everyone was urging me to go. So eventually, I got up and went after them.

I didn't expect to stumble upon such an interesting scene.

The two of them weren't difficult to find. They had merely slipped away to a relatively secluded spot nearby.

Hiding behind some crates, I watched as Frederick pinned Elaine against the wall and kissed her passionately.

I didn't make a sound. I simply pulled out my phone and started recording.

"I thought you wanted to marry her! Why are you kissing me when you treat her so well and love her so much?" Elaine whined, pouting.

Frederick placed another kiss on her lips. "I'm only treating her that way because of you, dummy. Remember how you cried and threw a fit before claiming you'll marry whoever can help you secure a recommendation for admission?

"I'm only dating her to get a reaction out of you. I wanted to get back at you for insisting you didn't have feelings for me."

Upon hearing this, Elaine wiped away her tears and broke into a smile.

"I was only joking… Did you actually think I was being serious?" she replied. "So, when are you going to break up with her? I don't want you to keep flaunting your relationship in front of me!"

"Don't worry. I'm about to get my hands on her report and research paper soon. Once you use her work to win the competition, the institution will definitely give you a spot. Once everything is settled, we'll make our relationship official."

As Frederick patiently coaxed Elaine, he promised to use all my hard work to pave the way to her success.

I had been reborn, so I already knew that the two of them were cut from the same cloth. But despite that, their words still stung.

I took a deep breath and stopped recording. Then, I slipped back into the private dining room before either of them could notice I'd been eavesdropping.

The scene quickly descended into chaos.Frederick and Elaine had never experienced anything like that before. The moment the officers stepped forward to take them away, they stumbled backward in fear."I'm not going with you! I've already apologized! I apologized, didn't I?" Elaine screamed. "Please don't arrest me! Please—I'm begging you! Don't arrest me!""Nancy! Explain the situation to them, Nancy! Tell them they've got the wrong guy!" Frederick begged. The microphone picked up the cries and pleas and broadcasted it to every corner of the auditorium. I watched as they desperately screamed for help and refused to cooperate.Their hysterics quickly became a spectacle for everyone else. Countless people in the audience raised their phones to record everything. In the end, both of them were taken away by the authorities.Since the evidence was conclusive, the legal proceedings went remarkably smoothly. Before Elaine was taken away, she still turned to snarl at me."You think

Frederick refused to believe that I no longer had any feelings for him. He remained convinced that everything I had told him was nothing more than something I'd said in the heat of the moment. I couldn't be bothered to argue with him. So, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face once more before heading home. After that incident, I thought things would finally settle down for a while. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The next day, while I was in class, one of my classmates secretly sent me a video. It was a recording of a live stream, and the person in the video was none other than Elaine.Sobbing, she claimed that she and Frederick had been in love with each other since they were kids. According to her, everyone around them could see the chemistry between them. And yet, despite knowing all of that, I had deliberately inserted myself into their relationship. "Frederick and I have known each other for more than 20 years. We care about each other, and everyone around us always

As I stepped out of the auditorium, I took in a deep breath of fresh air. For the first time since I had been reborn, I truly felt like I'd been given a second chance at life. This time, I'd given Frederick and Elaine a taste of their own medicine instead of driving myself into a dead end.I had deliberately chosen to spread the incident across the Internet when the pair were too busy to deal with the fallout. Hence, by the time they finally had time to respond, it was already too late.Feeling bored, I scrolled through the comments beneath the trending topics.Elaine was quite attractive, and she had built up a modest following on social media. When she first secured the spot, she received countless praises online for being both beautiful and talented. Now that the truth was out, she naturally received a huge amount of backlash."I thought she was a remarkable woman at first. But after watching through some of her old videos, I found that she couldn't even spell some words corre

Before Frederick could react, I forced my way past him and headed straight toward the judges' table. Then, I handed each of the five judges a printed copy of the evidence I had prepared."I started preparing the materials for my research paper six months ago. This includes all the literature and reference data that I needed. These are my search records from that time," I explained.I went on, "And these are my conversations with professors and other specialists in the field. Every one of them can testify that I've been working on this paper long before Elaine submitted hers."I spoke with confidence and explained every piece of information one by one. But even so, Elaine still refused to back down. Glaring at me, she snapped, "Stop making things up! You're just jealous that I won the award, so you're doing everything you can to ruin me! "So what if you have all this? None of it is concrete proof! At most, it just shows that we coincidentally picked the same topic. It doesn't pro

I had gone over the stolen research paper with a fine-tooth comb. I refined every detail and made the writing more precise than it had been in my previous life. I was 100% certain that this research paper would stand out against the rest.Sure enough, a week later, the department posted the shortlist on its bulletin board, and Elaine's name was sitting proudly at the very top of the list. The dean had even decided to submit her research paper to an academic competition. If she were to win, she'd end up with a substantial cash prize.I was standing at the end of the hallway when I heard two excited voices coming from an empty classroom nearby."Yesterday, the dean told me that the spot is basically mine! So what if that bookworm knows that I stole her work? She doesn't even have the guts to say anything about it!" Elaine scoffed.Frederick pulled Elaine into his arms with a chuckle. Placing a kiss on her face, he said, "I won't let her cause you any trouble even if she does. She's j

Frederick didn't disappoint.Since it was nearing closing time, the reading room was nearly empty, which made it the perfect place for me to capture evidence of his wrongdoings. I told him I needed to look for some materials upstairs and asked him to keep an eye on my belongings. Then, just as I had expected, he proceeded to use the opportunity to make a copy of my report.I couldn't help but smirk as I watched the live surveillance footage on my phone. Frederick and Elaine were truly a pair of idiots.I hid in the corner and waited patiently. Once he was nearly done, I pretended to hurry back to my seat before slipping the hidden camera back into my backpack."Sorry I kept you waiting. I spent ages looking for what I needed, but I couldn't find it," I said. "It's alright. I'll look again tomorrow."I looped my arm through Frederick's. But just as I was about to leave, he suddenly stopped dead in his tracks."I just remembered. There's something else I need to take care of, Nan
