Chapter 1

ผู้เขียน: Anonymous
I was in the kitchen making dinner for Simon Heath when his 32nd mistress walked through the door.

The young woman standing before me couldn't have been more than 20. She was young and beautiful and had a cheerful smile.

She gave me a dismissive glance and said smugly, "Mrs. Heath, my name is Sophie Martinez. I'm Simon's girlfriend."

Her eyes landed on my apron, and she sneered.

"The Heath family can't even afford a maid? I guess that's how it looks when someone stops caring," she teased. "He says the kitchen's too greasy and smoky, so he'd never let me set foot in there."

Hearing that, I found myself staring at Sophie's pale, dainty fingers. Her words made me zone out for a second.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my finger. When I came back to my senses, blood was already dripping down my hand.

Sophie laughed even harder when she saw the vacant despair in my eyes.

She purred, "Let's be honest, Mrs. Heath. The one he doesn't love is always the third party. Simon loves me, and you're just a box he checks."

As she said that, she gently placed her hand on her lower abdomen. There was a bright, expectant gleam in her eyes.

For some reason, I felt like laughing.

Every time one of Simon's 31 mistresses confronted me, they declared their love was genuine. However, he would dump every single one of them without fail.

I figured this time would be no different, but something about Sophie made me uneasy. My heart was racing for no reason, like something was spinning out of control.

When she saw I wasn't reacting, she grew more agitated.

"Lily Taylor, why is a washed-up woman like you still clinging to Simon like a parasite? Don't you realize you're just dead weight dragging him down? You bring nothing to the table and can't even give him a child."

She pulled out her phone and shoved it in my face, showing off her messages with Simon.

My mind went blank as I looked at their sweet, affectionate conversations on the screen.

It turned out he could be thoughtful enough to remind her to eat breakfast on time and go to bed early at night. He even shared many random stories with Sophie, like how he spotted a stray cat on the street and so on.

Sophie tucked her phone away and strutted out in her heels.

I ignored the blood still dripping down my hand, reached for my phone, and then scrolled through my chat history with Simon.

Looking back, it was always me keeping the conversation going. All he ever replied with were clipped responses—"Yeah." "Okay." "Got it."

I chuckled wryly, then I called him.

Simon picked up almost immediately, and he asked coldly, "What is it?"

Hearing his voice made my chest tighten with that familiar ache and bitter disappointment. Still, I told him about Sophie's visit.

The breathing on the other end suddenly became erratic. After a while, his urgent voice came through.

"She's still young. I'll talk to her later."

Hearing that, the truth slowly sank in. Having known Simon for so many years and loved him for just as long, how could I not understand that he had already fallen for Sophie?

I looked at the burned food on the stove and smiled bitterly.

I should've known that this marriage was already over.

Ten years later, I returned to Crestmore for a rocket launch press conference with Ryan by my side. We were surrounded by armed soldiers. Even though I kept insisting it wasn't necessary to make such a big fuss, my superiors still refused to approve a low-profile trip.Looking at the familiar skyline, my eyes welled with tears. After ten years of grinding through hardship, I'd finally put the past behind me. During those years, Simon and his parents had tried to contact me, but I never answered their calls. The night before arriving in Crestmore, I decided to call Carol. She sounded so surprised, stammering as she apologized to me.I smiled faintly and said, "Mrs. Heath, I'm calling to thank you and your husband for taking such good care of me back then. I heard your family business is doing well. Congratulations."I'm doing well now, too, but I think it's best if we don't stay in touch anymore."Before I hung up, I heard a muffled sob on the other end, but I felt nothing. The pas

When I regained consciousness, I found myself lying in a hospital bed. Sitting beside me was a soldier with a stern face and a piercing gaze. When he saw I was awake, a flash of relief crossed his features. He quickly poured me a glass of water. "Ms. Taylor, how are you feeling?" he asked.I touched my lower abdomen and asked urgently, "My baby?"Seeing the anxious look on my face, he quickly reassured me. "The baby is fine. It was just some stress-related cramping, but bed rest should take care of it."Only then did I let out a sigh of relief. The warm water also helped calm my nerves. Later, he filled me in on what had happened after I blacked out.The soldier's name was Ryan Cross, who had been sent by the government to protect me. When he saw the Heaths hurrying out with Sophie in a panic, he knew something was wrong. After waiting five minutes without seeing me come out of the house, he stormed inside and found me unconscious on the floor.Suddenly, I thought of my pare

Charles froze when he heard what I said. After a long pause, anger flashed across his face. Seeing his outrage felt like redemption for my wounded heart. If my parents were still alive and knew how their precious daughter was being treated, they would be just as furious.I said, "I don't want to become one of those numb, sheltered wives who just pretend not to feel anything. I don't think my parents would've wanted that for me either, or to watch their daughter disappear into a life of quiet betrayals."I gently touched my belly. There was a life growing inside me—my own flesh and blood. The only family I had left.I continued, "Simon and I loved each other deeply once. But somewhere along the way, the love just disappeared from his eyes when he looked at me. I'm not going to keep waiting for him. This is my baby, and he also has a child of his own. I know this little one is going to be a fighter."Hearing that, Charles finally relented. He said, "Fine. Since you've made up your

When I heard the doctor's words, I stared at him blankly, then slowly placed a hand on my flat belly. I couldn't believe that a tiny life was growing inside me.News of my pregnancy soon reached Charles. When he arrived at the hospital, I was still in a daze. This unexpected, tiny life had completely disrupted my plans. He looked at me and voiced his concern. "The road to the Norwood Research Institute is rough and bumpy. And I'm not sure the conditions at the research facility are safe for a pregnant woman. I'm worried your body won't be able to handle it."He let out a long sigh and said, "This baby..."I knew what Charles was worried about. Even if I could fly to Norwood, I'd still have to take a long bus ride through winding roads just to reach the research facility. Any sudden physical jolting or rough movement could be dangerous in my early pregnancy. He was afraid the rough climate out there would be too much for me, and that something might happen to my baby. At the same

I sat on the hotel bed and hesitated for a long time before finally calling Charles' number. When he picked up, his voice was as calm and kind as always. However, I could barely speak past the lump in my throat. I held back my tears and pretended to sound calm. "Everything's taken care of on my end," I said. "I can leave earlier than planned."A week later, I went to the hospital to collect my medical report. During that entire week, neither Robert, Carol, nor Simon had reached out to me. It stung, but I understood that all they cared about now was Sophie and the baby she was carrying. To them, I was just a footnote in their lives.I ran into Sophie at the hospital entrance. She was dressed to the nines. When she saw me, she gave me that wide-eyed, innocent look.I had no interest in talking to her, so I quickened my pace to leave, but Sophie called out to me. I heard her voice, dripping with malice."Mrs. Heath, what brings you to the hospital?"She ran a hand over her still

Simon and I grew up together. My parents were both in the military. When I was young, I was kidnapped by terrorists who used me to threaten my parents. They tried to force my parents to betray the country and give in to their demands.I was locked in a small, dark room while the terrorists and my parents faced off outside. I remembered pressing my ear hard against the cold metal door, desperate to hear my parents' voices on the other side. All I heard were gunshots, followed by silence. No matter how hard I screamed for them, no one answered. I was terrified, and I didn't know how long I was trapped in that room before the door finally creaked open.Simon's frightened, anxious face appeared in front of me, followed by a crowd of police officers. I frantically scanned their faces, hoping to spot my parents. But no matter how hard I looked, I couldn't find them. That was the day I learned my parents had sacrificed their lives while taking the terrorists down with them. They did it t
