Chapter 3

Author: Eirlys
Thanks, Daddy! Maya smiled sweetly.

She ran to the desk with the bracelet, picked up a pair of sharp scissors, and cut right through it without hesitation.

Snip.

The bracelet fell to the floor in pieces. Grandma's blessings, the charm I had treasured so much, turned into a pile of useless scraps under Maya's scissors.

Ugh, this is stupid, Maya pouted, tossing the scissors and the remains of the bracelet onto the desk.

Instead of getting mad, Charles grabbed Maya's hands, checking them nervously. Maya, be careful, don't cut yourself. If you want a bracelet, Daddy will have a prettier one custom-made for you tomorrow.

He turned to a maid, his voice instantly cold. Sweep up this trash before Miss Maya steps on it.

Yes, Alpha. The maid swept the scattered pieces—the only warmth left of my childhood—into a dustpan.

I stared blankly. Suddenly, I didn't want to cry anymore. Something inside me fractured, fading away right alongside those scraps. My yearning for a father, my fantasy of a family, my pathetic, deep-seated love for him.

I watched Dad coddle Maya, catching the brief flash of smugness in her eyes.

That night, Maya wrote in her pink diary: "Eliza, I won again. Daddy gave me your present and had it thrown away. He will always love me best, and you can never steal him from me!"

I finally understood. She knew it was mine all along. She did it on purpose. But honestly, she didn't need to try so hard. Dad never loved me anyway; how could I ever steal him away?

The weekend arrived. Dad rented the most luxurious yacht for Maya's grand sixth birthday party. Sunlight bathed the deck, and the sea breeze carried everyone's laughter. Pack elites offered expensive gifts, showering Maya with compliments.

Dad held Maya in the center of the crowd, his face beaming with pride.

Daddy, it's time for my wish! Maya stood before a massive five-tier cake, clapping her hands together.

Go ahead, Daddy is listening. Charles looked at her tenderly.

I wish Daddy would only be my daddy forever, and that he'll only ever love me! Maya announced loudly.

Kind laughter rippled through the crowd. Everyone praised her sweet attachment to her father. Dad, deeply moved, hugged her tightly and promised, Alright, Daddy promises. I will only ever be your daddy.

It was a picture-perfect father-daughter moment.

Right then, Dad's phone buzzed violently in his pocket. Frowning, he pulled it out. His scowl deepened when he saw the caller ID: Pack Enforcers.

What is it? Charles answered, his voice returning to its usual cold authority. Today is my daughter's birthday. If it's not a pack emergency, don't bother me.

The Enforcer captain sounded hesitant and terrified, with faint sirens wailing in the background.

Alpha, I'm so sorry to interrupt. But... we received a call from a neighbor at one of your apartments. The one where you set up Ms. Valerie and little Eliza...

Charles's face darkened instantly, disgust flashing in his eyes. If Valerie is threatening to jump again, or if Eliza is faking sick, just send a doctor. I don't have time for their games.

No, it's not that, Alpha... the voice on the phone trembled. The smell is horrific. Alpha, can you... can you come over right away?

Actually, I probably shouldn't even call you that.I cut up that trashy bracelet on purpose. I just hate that little bastard Eliza. Anything that belongs to her makes me sick. Besides, Mommy says I don't even have your blood. Didn't you ever notice my scent doesn't smell like yours at all? Mommy and I are taking the money to find my real dad now. With a smug

The pack medical examiner read the cold report. It stated that I died of a severe rejection reaction caused by the wolfsbane. Although there were traces of the antidote, long-term, repeated use had built up a fatal resistance. In the end, my inner wolf was literally destroyed, and I died in excruciating agony. The Enforcer Captain looked up, his tone severe. Ms. Valerie, did you repeatedly force Eliza to consume wolfsbane before her passing?Dad's eyes widened in sheer horror. He grabbed his head and crouched on the floor in agony. How... she was really poisoned. I always thought she was just faking it to trick me...Mom's face drained of all color. For the next few days, Charles locked himself in my princess room.Luna Cassandra finally lost her patience. Seeing Charles ignore Maya's crying outside the door and completely ice her out, she exploded. She stood in the hallway, pounding on the door, her words vicious. What the hell is wrong with you?! The brat is gone! I asked if you wanted to claim her back then, and you agreed to ditch her. Now you're playing the bleeding-heart father and scaring Maya!Charles didn't answer. A few moments later, I heard heavy footsteps—Cassandra storming off in a rage. Behind the door, Charles began to weep silently, agonizing sobs shaking his frame. He had visibly lost a lot of weight. He punched the wall hard, muttering to himself. It was my fault. No matter how crazy Valerie was, it had nothing to do with Eliza. I should have brought her to the Estate ages ago and raised her right, instead of tossing her aside because I thought she was corrupted. When she was first born... I loved her so much...

It was the only photo I had with my dad, taken right after I was born. In it, he was smiling brightly, his eyes full of hope for my new life. But later, for power and status, he mated with Cassandra, and she gave him another daughter. After that, Dad never smiled at me like that again.Mom's mental state was highly unstable back then. My grandmother, terrified she might do something awful to me, took me away. It wasn't until Grandma died of an illness that Mom brought me back to this freezing apartment. On my first day back, Mom beat and cursed at me. Her eyes held nothing but pure resentment. I knew she didn't love me.From then on, I looked forward to seeing Dad. Because of that photo Grandma left me. She used to say, "Your Daddy loves you. Look how happy he is in the picture." So I firmly believed that Dad had once wanted me, that he loved me.That yellowed photo became my only anchor. I thought if I was just a good girl, if I just saw him a little more, he would eventually take me

My broken body lay lifeless on the living room floor. The overwhelming stench of death filled the air, gagging everyone. Thanks to the wolfsbane, I could only imagine how severely the flesh beneath my clothes had festered. The neighbors who had peeked inside gasped in absolute horror.Charles stood completely stunned. Then, he strode over and nudged my body with his dress shoe. Eliza, stop playing dead. Get up. People are staring.I didn't react. But his kick moved me just enough to reveal the message I had written on the floor in my own blood right before I died."Daddy, the medicine didn't work. It hurts so much. I really didn't lie to you."The letters were jagged and messy, a testament to the unimaginable agony I was in when I wrote them.Charles stared at the bloody words, his pupils trembling.
