MasukMy father, ever so obedient to his alpha or was it fear? I didn’t know. But he hurried and hid the documents behind him and smiled nervously. He hurried and said, "Alpha, it’s nothing. Aurora was just being childish… she upset you; I apologize on her behalf."
Shook my head, I did nothing wrong, and I had no time to waste. I turned to Rowan. “I want you to reject me or I will, and you will accept it. Let’s put an end to all this.” I went to my face and grabbed the documents out of his hand and handed the divorce papers to him.
Rowan’s expression darkened. "You’d better stop! Don’t make a scene."
"If it weren’t for Vivian disappearing back then, I wouldn’t have married you. And now you’re still not satisfied!" Rowan said mercilessly.
My breath hitched. For a second, the world tilted. I tried to answer him, but the pain hit me hard — a burning wave rising through my chest.
The poison.
I stumbled, clutching my stomach. My vision blurred. I could feel it coming, the bile rising up, and I tried to swallow it down, to keep some shred of dignity. But I couldn’t.
Blood spilled from my mouth.
Rowan froze, horror flickering across his face,"You’re vomiting blood! What’s happening to you?"
But before he could move, my brother’s cold voice cut through the air.
“Hmph, no one hit her. Who is she pretending for now?”
I tried to speak, to defend myself, but my body refused to listen. Every breath burned. The world tilted.
Then, the door burst open.
“Second Miss—Vivian! She’s back!” an omega cried breathlessly, joy spilling from her voice.
For one heartbeat, no one moved. Then, all at once, they turned away from me.
My mother gasped and rushed toward the door. My father followed, his anger forgotten. Grayson was already halfway down the hall before I even saw him move.
And Rowan… he hesitated for a moment, then said to me, “I’ll call a doctor to see you.” After that, he ran toward the gate.
I stayed where I was, my knees on the cold marble, my hands trembling. The taste of iron filled my mouth. I pressed my fingers to my lips and saw blood staining them dark red.
A small laugh escaped me — weak, broken.
“Welcome home, dear sister,” I whispered.
And as the last of my strength slipped away, I realized—I really was dying.
So this… this was what death felt like, gentle and cold, as the darkness swallowed me whole. When I opened my eyes again, I was weightless. Floating.
For a moment, I thought I had survived — until I looked down.My body lay on the floor, hand still on my stomach, dried blood at my lips.
No one had noticed. My family was gathered around Vivian, laughing and crying, Rowan holding her as if she were the only soul in existence. So this is death?
Then why hasn’t my soul faded away? Then, all at once-light.
For a heartbeat, there was nothing.
Then, a voice. It seemed to ripple through the stars themselves.
“Aurora Hart.”
My breath caught—if breath even existed anymore.
The brilliance softened, folding into a gentle glow, and through it I saw her.
The Moon Goddess.
I turned to the Moon Goddess, my voice trembling yet reverent.
“What… what is happening? Am I dead?”“Yes,” she said softly, her tone both sorrowful and calm. “But not entirely. You are standing between life and death.”
I froze, uncertain what she meant. The words echoed through the vast silence around us.
She continued, her silver eyes glowing like twin moons.
“In this life, you were betrayed—your destiny left unfulfilled. Tell me, Aurora… do you wish for a second chance to rewrite it all?”At that, something inside me flared alive. A spark of desperate hope.
“Yes,” I whispered. “Please. I have a child—unborn, unprotected. I have to go back.”The Goddess smiled, a faint curve of light and eternity.
“Good. Then steel your heart, for soon, help will come to find you.”Her form began to blur, dissolving into mist and moonlight until she was gone.
I drifted through the air again and saw it—the front gates of my home.
“My darling daughter, you’re safe. You’re home!”
My father’s soft murmur followed. “Don’t cry, my love. She’s here now.”And Grayson’s voice — gentle for the first time in years — “Sis… I missed you.”I wanted to laugh. So that’s how it was. Their tenderness was only for her.
“Brother, I missed you too.” Vivian’s voice sliced through me, sweet and venomous. My stomach twisted painfully. Blood filled my mouth again. The poison was claiming me faster than I’d expected.
Then Rowan’s voice — soft, trembling — “Vivi…”
I had forgotten how gentle he could sound.“Rowan…” she whispered back, mimicking him, her tone sickly sweet.I thought of the years I’d spent beside him, healing him, loving him in silence. What a fool I’d been.
He never saw me — only the shadow of the woman he truly wanted.“Where have you been?” Rowan asked softly. “Why didn’t you reach out all these years?”
Vivian lowered her head and began to cry — the oldest trick she knew.“Alpha, she must have suffered so much,” someone said. “Let’s give her time.”And just like that, her tears worked their magic again.
Vivian smiled, radiant. “A meal with my family would be nice right now.”My mother nodded eagerly. “I’ll cook all your favourites!”I almost laughed. She had never once cooked for me. She didn’t even know what my favourite food was.Vivian poured drinks, proposing a toast to her safe return.
Father kissed her cheek before leaving for a meeting.Mother followed soon after, claiming she was tired.I watched, hollow and bitter.
Why had I ever craved their love?Rowan and Grayson stayed behind, drinking and laughing with Vivian late into the night.
I sat beside my lifeless body, whispering prayers to the Goddess.“Please… let this end. Haven’t I suffered enough? Where is my second chance?”My body was still on the floor, growing cold.
Then, around five in the morning, the kitchen door creaked open.
A man stepped inside, glancing around. He wasn’t one of our pack — I didn’t know him.To my shock, he went straight to me. Kneeling beside my body, he checked my pulse, then quietly lifted me into his arms.
“Who are you?” I whispered, though my voice made no sound. “Where are you taking me?”
He didn’t answer. He slipped out through the kitchen door, carrying me into the darkness before dawn.
From above, I watched the house fade behind us.
A bitter laugh escaped me.“I wonder how long it will take them to notice that I’m gone.”At that moment, my gaze fell on the man once more—and a jolt ran through me.
He looked familiar. No… it couldn’t be.But then, like a flood breaking loose, I remembered who he was!AURORAPain, sadness, anger and disappointments. Are all I saw on Darien’s face after listening to the full story. I on the other hand, was not shocked to hear about my father’s dirty dealings. I knew that man’s cruelty first hand. Hearing about it didn’t do anything to me, I felt nothing. it was just a pity that I couldn’t choose a different father.I looked at Adam. “What? do you want to go after him?” I chuckled, he was possessive, a true mate if you ask me. “You might know him better than I do, but he is my mate. You might have had a chance before but not now.” he walked out following Darien.I turned to his father. “Do you see that pain you caused him?” I looked between him and the seer. who look like a lost pup. “I was protecting him and I don’t regret what I did. he is alive today because of what I did.” I shook my head in the negative, thinking back to my past life with Darien at the orphanage.“That is what you convinced yourself of. but it’s not the truth. Darien almost lost
DARIEN I glared at me; I had no strength to deal with him or hear his lies. I was so exhausted. “You think I am lying to you?” he chuckled mockingly. “Anyway, when I heard about what he was planning from my best friend who was his gamma. I went to find your mother. She was at the palace visiting Susan, her friend who was once of the king’s many concubines.”I snarled. “But when I got there, the king was standing over your mother’s body, silver knife in hand. He looked feral. When he saw me, he smirked and ordered the guards to apprehend me and go get you from the house.” He looked at if he were back there again. As he spoke his eyes were cold and distant. “But I was the beta, trained for many years and not only in combat. Since I went everywhere with the king. I was also his physician and his most trusted alchemist. At least that was what I thought.” He chuckled then cast his gaze my way.“I was a fool son; I admit to that. I trusted that man blindly and it cost me everything.” Pain
AURORAIn my past life, having Rowan look at me the way he did, I would have been the happiest woman alive. Nothing anyone could have said would have changed my good mood. Even having him looking in my direction was a blessing. It made me so happy. But now, I felt like a fool and wondered what made me think the bare minimum he was offering was enough.“What got you so upset?” I asked Darien, he looked as if his world was about to end. I knew the feel all too well. I was once in his shoes. Maybe not exactly but I knew what it felt like when you thought the whole world was against you.“Why do you act like you care? I am not Rowan; you don’t have to pretend with me.” I took a seat, crossed my legs then looked at him. I was not about to argue with him over nothing. that was not what he needed. “What did your mate do or was it your father?” he lifted his head to look at me.Guilt covered his face. A sigh left me. “So, it’s both. Tell me what happened.” He came and sat at my feet. He looke
ROWANNothing hurt more than seeing your loved one give up on you. I once thought Aurora’s love for me had no end, that it was forever and maybe that was why I took her for granted. But seeing her like that with me, indifferent like I was just another man she knows and not her mate hurt me.‘How is she supposed to act like our mate when even her wolf shows no interest in me. Your hurt them so much that she has lost all hope in us. They didn’t care what we do anymore, Rowan. We are losing them if we have not lost them already.’ Damon’s words hit me hard.So hard that I wanted to wrap my arms around her and never let her go. I got why she would give us. It had been more than four years now and yet. I had not done anything for her worth mentioning. I followed her to the room, wanting to throw myself at her.Feel her in my arms once again. Plead with her not to give up on me, to give me another chance. In my haste, she bumped into me when she turned. I held her, Damon came forward. He too
AURORA“You have to stop him.” Rowan budged in while I was busy making Conri’s bottle. I glanced at him over my shoulder. He looked worried. “Who am I supposed to stop and why?” I didn’t have time to play games with the man. He was not supposed to stay in the pack that long. Did he want that evil wife of his to have ideas about us?“Darien, he wants to go after the alpha king.” The bottle slipped out of my hands and fell into the sink with clink sound. I looked down at my hands and they were shaking. I bailed them into fists before picking up the bottle, placed it on top of the sink then turned to Rowan.“Tell me everything.” He started from the beginning, telling me how he asked Darien to help him and how they discovered that my dad was working with the alpha king and how Darien planned on making him think that he was the one after him just to get him to focus his attention on him.Was Darien insane or did having a man for a mate drive him to the edge, what the hell was he thinking!
DARIENWhat Rowan told me pissed me off. The man was involved in what happened to my family back then and somehow. Vivian’s father was involved as well. Their relationship or partnership must have started then, with my family, destroying them and making sure I grew up alone. Fending for myself and trying hard to survive.Well, I didn’t think they wanted me to survive, the bastards wanted us all dead, but why? I needed to talk to the old man. He must know more about what happened. Maybe I was impulsive when I chased them out of the pack. But knowing the seer, he they were not far.I didn’t know that old man well enough to tell what he was capable of, but I needed him to tell me why we were framed by the kings. What was it what he and my mother knew that lead to her death. I needed to know everything then make that man pay for what he did.“Aurora, can we talk another time? I have something to do.” She looked at me with pity in her eyes; I hated that look but I was pitiful. “Why don’t y
