Chapter 1

He stood alongside my sister, Lily, and a few pack warriors, craning his neck to peer toward the VIP pathway.

“Eric, isn’t that Selena? She’s actually alive?”

Eric whipped around. For a split second, he looked as if he wanted to reach out and pull me into an embrace, but his eyes caught Lily standing right behind him, and his movement came to a jarring halt.

“I knew it. I knew you wouldn’t die in the ocean that easily.”

Lily covered her mouth and let out a soft chuckle, though her eyes remained entirely cold.

“Where have you been these past three years, Selena? We looked everywhere for you…” She paused, her smile turning sharper. “But your timing really is something. Eric is supposed to welcome an honored guest today, yet he runs into you here first.”

The surrounding wolves instantly caught onto her drift. They jeered, turning their eyes toward me with nothing but undisguised contempt.

“Talk about a stroke of luck! Now that she sees Eric has become an Alpha, she comes running back like a dog, faking a coincidental encounter?”

“If you’re going to try and stage an accidental reunion, why are you dressed so miserably?”

In the past, whenever I went out with Eric, I would dress up immaculately, utterly terrified of embarrassing him.

But things were different now. My mate only ever cared about my comfort. While my current casual clothes looked understated, they were actually custom-made from the finest moonlight silk—a detail these wolves lacked the sophistication to even recognize.

Hearing their insults, it finally dawned on me: they had absolutely no idea that the VIP guest they were waiting for was me.

Seeing my silence, a warrior who used to be close to me tried to smooth things over. “It’s just good that you’re back alive. Honestly, Eric has been searching for you all these years…”

The smile on Eric’s face stiffened awkwardly. Then, masking his discomfort, he threw his shoulders back with arrogant pride.

“Since you’re still alive, you can come back to my territory. For the sake of our past, I don’t mind letting you be my mistress.”

Eric was exactly the same as he was in our previous life—completely consumed by his own self-important arrogance.

But I was no longer the foolish woman who would chase after him at all costs. Seeing him again brought nothing to my heart except deep disgust.

Unwilling to waste another second on them, I prepared to reveal my identity and find my mate. But Lily seized the moment to lean heavily into Eric’s chest, offering a sickeningly sweet, fake consolation.

“Selena, please don’t blame Eric. He’s only doing this to take care of you. After all, you vanished for three years. Who knows what kind of shady, rogue wolves you’ve been messing around with out there?

“Looking as destitute as you do now, it would be hard for him to convince the pack to even grant you a Beta position.

“But don’t worry. As long as you’re willing to return as a mistress, I won’t hold a grudge. The servants’ quarters happen to be empty. You can move in and help me take care of my pup. At least you’ll get a roof over your head and a decent meal.”

Three years had passed, yet Lily was just as insufferably haughty as ever, her words enough to make me knit my brows in pure revulsion.

Eric, however, completely misread my expression, assuming I was burning with jealousy over him. A smug flash of satisfaction gleamed in his eyes.

“Alright, that’s enough. You couldn’t even survive out there on your own, so stop putting on airs.

“Since you’re willing to come back, stop throwing tantrums from now on. My house has plenty of spare rooms.

“Take good care of Lily’s pup, and make sure you understand your current place.”

The moment the words left his mouth, the surrounding wolves burst into mockery.

“Selena, look at how much Eric loves you. He even went out of his way to arrange your food and housing.

“Just helping Lily with the kids is a thousand times better than the homeless, wandering life you’re living right now.”

Lily gently stroked her prominently protruding belly and sighed. “Don’t overthink it. I won’t let you suffer any grievances.”

Eric frowned and cut her off, his voice dripping with impatience.

“What grievances could she possibly have? She was the one who insisted on shoving me away back then, vanishing for three years without a single word. Now that she can’t cut it out there, she finally remembers to crawl back. She should have been left to suffer a bit more, just to teach her a lesson.”

A cold laugh slipped past my lips.

So, in his eyes, that fateful night was nothing more than me throwing a stubborn tantrum and pushing him away.

My drowning in the freezing ocean was just an insignificant, trivial matter to him.

But it didn’t matter anymore.

Reborn into this life, I had absolutely no desire to ever be entangled with him again.

Right now, I was already the Luna of the Crescent Moon Pack. My mate possessed the most noble, exalted bloodline—and even the blood flowing through our little pup was enough to bring every single wolf standing here straight to their knees.

Late that evening, I sat in the study, flipping through old photographs. In every picture, Jason’s eyes were completely overflowing with profound affection, while my own expression remained somewhat detached. When we initially formed our mate bond, there had admittedly been an element of wanting to repay my debt of gratitude to him.But over our many years of living together, my heart had succumbed to him entirely long ago.As I tucked the album back into the desk drawer, my fingers brushed against a hidden latch, inadvertently uncovering a secret compartment tucked far in the back.Inside the massive hidden space lay an entire collection of my old belongings and photographs from my past.Had he loved me long before I even knew his name? There were even snapshots of me as a minor, running a small stall at the pack market. There were portraits from the exact year I reached adulthood, too.The moment Jason stepped back into the bedchamber, his eyes landed directly on his mate in

That deal was actually not difficult to guess. A mother is always fierce when protecting her own.Eric must have said something regarding that unborn pup.Having swallowed so many stones, Lily originally did not have much time left to live anyway. Her only remaining concern was her unborn child.Jason was usually cold to the world, but the moment Lucas or I suffered even a fraction of harm, he would fly into a violent, self-reproaching rage.Yet, despite his ruthless methods, I did not feel a single shred of fear.It was just that our perfectly good Lucas was still being led astray by his father’s feral habits.I initially wanted to ask about a few other matters. However, the bedroom door was violently pushed open at that exact moment. The two wolves—one big, one small—spotted me awake and immediately rushed straight to my bedside.“Mommy, you’re finally awake.”“Does your body feel uncomfortable anywhere? Don’t worry, I already took care of every single person who bullied yo

Seeing that I completely ignored him, Eric grew incredibly irritated.Lucas, however, had absolutely zero intention of tolerating Eric’s attitude.“Take care of another child? My mommy is the most noble Luna in existence.“Who do you think you are to even suggest that?“Mommy will only ever have me.“How does that pathetic little wolf pup of yours even have the nerve to try and be Mommy’s child?“I’ve heard all about your history. You’re a sniveling coward who stood by and watched his own mate sink into the ocean—how do you even have the audacity to compare yourself to my daddy?“You aren’t as strong as my daddy, you aren’t as tall as my daddy, and you don’t even smell half as good as my daddy does.”Lucas evaluated Eric with an expression of pure disgust before pinching his own little nose shut.“Furthermore, you’re covered in a foul stench from head to toe. It’s so putrid I can barely keep my eyes open.“I certainly hope that unborn pup of yours doesn’t turn out exactly lik

I let out a helpless sigh.“Alright, how can applying medicine not sting a little? Stop scaring her.”Under my gentle, soothing words, the healer’s posture visibly relaxed a great deal. After completing her examination, she turned to Jason and reported respectfully, “Alpha, the puncture wound on the Luna’s shoulder is quite severe. I will apply our finest Snow Lotus Cream, which guarantees that no scar will be left behind.”Jason stood in absolute silence, offering no response. But I knew him better than anyone. The quieter he became, the more suffocatingly dense the killing intent swirling in his heart actually was.As the chief culprit behind this disaster, Eric was drowning in absolute panic. After all, who could have ever anticipated that the woman he once abandoned so ruthlessly would turn around and become Jason’s Luna?Watching the sheer intimacy between Jason and me, that bizarre, delusional possessiveness buried deep in Eric’s chest reached its absolute peak.Yet, for

The people who had followed Eric to the harbor to pick me up felt their legs go completely weak, and they collapsed straight onto the floor.I—the poor Beta they had mocked just days ago—was actually Jason’s Luna.Regret washed over them like a tidal wave. The necklace had been right there around my neck.I had clearly pointed out that my seat was at the grand head table. At the terrifying realization that they had offended a True Alpha, these wolves became so paralyzed with fear that they practically stopped breathing.Suddenly, Lily’s friend, Myra, stepped out from the crowd.“Selena, where on earth did you find these two rogue wolves?“An adult and a kid, both weeping and wailing like that. Do you want me to help them find a job at a circus?“After all, you’re so dirt poor that you can’t even afford a decent evening gown. I have an old dress I’ve worn before. If you don’t mind a hand-me-down, I can bestow it upon you so you stop embarrassing yourself here!”Though she call

Lucas, who had kept an entirely expressionless face until now, instantly perked up his wolf ears the exact moment his eyes landed on me. He violently broke free from Jason’s arms and sprinted straight into my embrace.“Mommy! What’s wrong? Who bullied you?”Lucas’s eyes welled with frantic tears, threatening to spill over. “Why is there so much blood on your neck and shoulder?”The entire banquet hall plunged into an absolute, suffocating silence.Every single werewolf in attendance stared with wide, utterly disbelieving eyes.Lucas carried the crisp, cold scent unique to the snowfields. His small embrace was just as warm as always, instantly washing away every ounce of the humiliation I had just endured.I extended my hand—the one that was still relatively clean—and gently pinched his chubby cheek.“Mommy is fine. I just accidentally took a little fall.”He leaned closer to my blood-smeared collarbone, his eyes entirely drenched.“Mommy is lying! This was clearly done by claw
