Chapter 8

Author: Anonymous
Over the years, I traveled around the country with my team.

We camped in the polar regions at -40 degrees Fahrenheit. We almost got lost in the desert. We climbed snow-covered mountains to catch the first light of dawn, and we also saw the aurora in Norway.

Aside from visiting Professor Fiona during the summer, I seldom set foot in the city filled with memories.

I would occasionally bump into old friends and inevitably learn about Gregory.

He was a changed man and no longer had any women around him. He did not even have any casual flings with them. He would go home on time each day.

Gregory had always enjoyed the nightlife. But ever since our divorce, he had become reclusive and rarely left his house. He never even showed up at his friends’ dinner parties.

I once saw Gregory from afar while dining with friends at a restaurant. He seemed to be discussing business with his clients.

He had become alarmingly thin. He looked so haggard that it was a little horrific to behold,

When Gregory learned that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, he looked surprisingly calm. The doctor warned him that he needed to quit drinking and watch his diet. He had to control his alcohol consumption. Gregory smiled, and on the same night, he opened a bottle of whiskey in his apartment. The alcohol burned through the diseased lining of his stomach. He was in so much pain that he curled up and trembled on the couch. Liquor was the one thing that could give him a moment of relief. Only when he drank himself into a blackout could he temporarily forget the pain of losing Melody. If he was lucky, he could still see her gentle smile in his dreams. In fact, Gregory had seen Melody at the restaurant last time. The wind and the sand of the wilderness made her look leaner and tanner. Nonetheless, her eyes shone brighter than before. They did not look dull and gloomy like they once did when she was with him. Melody appeared relaxed, and she laughed so freely. It all sho

I never expected Gregory to follow me all the way to the desolate desert. The fierce wind howled and swept up the yellow sand as he stood at the entrance of the camp. His expensive cashmere coat was covered in dust. The moment Gregory saw me, there was a flash of surprise and delight in his eyes. “You must be exhausted. You’ve lost weight.” His voice trembled, and he reached out to touch my face. I turned away to avoid his touch and stared at him calmly. “No. I’ve been very happy since I left you.” Gregory’s eyes were bloodshot. No one could tell if it was due to the strong wind and the sand, or if he had been crying. “Melody, come home with me.” He said that he missed me terribly. He dreamed of me every night, including how I had given up my dream for his sake. He dreamed of the vows he had made at our wedding. He dreamed of me staying up alone all night just to wait for him to return. He dreamed of how hysterical I would get every time he cheated on me. He was tea

  • I Left My Cheating Husband   Chapter 6

It had been half a month since I came to the northwestern desert with the research expedition team. We stayed in a makeshift, prefabricated cabin and ate communal meals together. We also spent over ten hours collecting samples in the wind and sand daily. At first, Professor Fiona was worried that I would not be able to adapt to the environment there. Unexpectedly, I adapted to it better than anyone else. The phone signal there was unstable, but Gregory’s WhatsApp messages and calls arrived like clockwork every day. I did not read or answer them even once. At dinner, everyone sat around the dining table, and Professor Fiona placed a piece of lamb on my plate. “Before you came, I was worried that you wouldn’t be able to handle such hardship. But it looks like you seem healthier now.” While Professor Fiona spoke, she sized me up. “Your complexion looks healthier than when we first got here.” I ate my pasta and said with a smile, “I’ve gotten rid of all my emotional bagga

Meanwhile, Gregory thought that Melody had been acting very strangely lately. He did not expect her to quit the job she had committed to for years. When he asked her about it, she brushed it off by saying that she found it too tiring to go to work. In the past, no matter how busy Melody got, she would never think of quitting her job. She said that she never wanted to be a homemaker and that having a career was her bottom line. However, her behavior had changed unexpectedly. Even though he made out with another woman, Melody not only gave them a cold shoulder, but she also cracked some jokes about them. Gregory thought that he would be relieved about this. But there was a tight feeling in his chest, as though it had been stuffed with a wad of damp cotton. He felt inexplicably irritated. Gregory was so stubborn in his belief that Melody was just throwing a tantrum. It was just like the countless silent treatments he had experienced in the past. As a result, he decided to do

Perhaps Gregory was trying to make it up to me after neglecting me for so long. He did something completely out of his character by staying at home over the next few days. When I opened the door, I was surprised to see him wearing an apron and preparing meals inside the kitchen. Nonetheless, Gregory was used to living a pampered life. He was very clumsy, and he even coughed from the smoke. “What’s the meaning of this?” I leaned against the door frame and watched his performance coldly. “Melody, I’ve been thinking a lot about the old days lately.” He smiled gently at me, and it looked like he was lost in the past. “At that time, we were very poor. But even sharing a bowl of pasta made us happy.” When we first started the business, we tried to save every penny we could. So, we did not rent a place with a heater or air conditioner. It was an extremely cold winter, but we curled up in bed and held each other to stay warm. Summer was even worse. The nights felt like being
