Chapter 3

Author: Snail
Not long after Dorian left, Vanya appeared at my bedroom door, inspecting my room as if she already owned the place. She was draped in that snow fox cloak, the moonstone necklace nestled against her throat, and the laurel brooch Dorian had just taken was pinned to her chest. Even on her wrist, she wore the moonstone bracelet that was originally mine.

"Tiana, are you clearing out your room?"

I remained silent. Yet, as if completely oblivious to my cold shoulder, she made herself right at home and walked in. "To be honest, I came here to apologize. Dori keeps giving me things that were meant for you, and it has been quite troubling for me too."

Even though she claimed to be troubled, the way she kept running her fingers over the necklace made it clear that she was flaunting it. "I'm sure you won't blame me, right, Tiana? I genuinely didn't mean for this to happen."

I remained silent.

Vanya let out a soft sigh. "Honestly, I envy you so much, Tiana. Growing up, you had everyone wrapped around your finger. Dad adored you, and Dori spoiled you rotten. I, on the other hand, only ever receive scraps, and I treasure them more than I should."

Her words sounded heartbreaking, yet the very next second, she pulled out a design draft from her coat. It was a revised sketch for my mating ritual gown, densely marked with new measurements, with Dorian's signature scrawled at the very bottom. "Dori just asked me to try on the gown. He was afraid I wouldn't have anything suitable to go with the jewelry set, so he insisted I try it out first."

My gaze lingered on the design sketch as a dull ache exploded through my chest. That was a privilege meant strictly for an Alpha's mate.

Yet, she feigned innocence as she said, "Please don't get the wrong idea, Tiana. Dori's just looking out for me. He said since it's my first time attending a werewolf mating ritual, I don't know how anything works, so he took it upon himself to arrange everything for me."

Having flaunted her prize, she wore a triumphant smile as she spun on her heel and sauntered out. Keeping my head down, I quietly closed my empty suitcase and left the manor that very night. Gazing at the boarding ticket in my hand, it hit me that leaving was, without a doubt, the right choice.

At the first light of dawn, Dorian arrived at the banquet hall to confirm the final arrangements. When he thought of the upcoming mating ritual, he couldn't suppress the smile creeping onto his face.

It had been five years. At long last, he was about to become mates with me.

"Alpha Dorian, the banquet hall has been set up according to your instructions."

Dorian nodded and asked, "Has the gift I asked you to secretly prepare a few days ago arrived?" It was a moonstone ring that was blessed by the Moon Goddess, which he had personally gone to the sanctuary to pray for.

This was the surprise he had prepared for me. He had promised to make up for everything he owed me, and this ring was just one of the many compensations he had lined up for me. In his mind, there was no rush; after all, we still had a lifetime together.

Dorian's smile widened at the thought. "Prepare another 999 moonlit roses, along with the moonstones that just arrived at the auction house. Have them all sent to the manor once the ritual is over."

Before the ritual began, he waited nervously in the center of the banquet hall.

All of a sudden, a commotion broke out at the entrance, and a slender figure slowly came into view. Vanya walked in, wearing the tiara blessed by the Moon Goddess. Her silver-blue gown dragged on the floor, and her moonstone jewelry shimmered brilliantly in the sunlight.

Dorian scowled and barked, "Why are you wearing that gown? Take it off!"

Vanya was caught off guard, and so was everyone else around them. For the past month, everyone had watched Dorian cater to Vanya's every whim. Hence, no one anticipated this kind of reaction from him.

Vanya blanched and immediately teared up. "I'm sorry… I merely thought it was beautiful... I thought Tiana wouldn't mind..."

Had this been before, Dorian might have already stepped forward to comfort her. However, things were different that day. After all, we were going to have our mating ritual. He wouldn't allow a single soul to ruin it.

The oppressive aura belonging to an Alpha instantly permeated the hall. Dorian's voice was strained with barely contained rage. "Take it off. That's Tiana's gown. Our mating ritual hasn't even begun yet. Who the hell gave you permission to wear it out here?"

At that suffocatingly tense moment, Dorian's Beta, Lucas Kravitz, burst into the banquet hall, panic written all over his face. "Ms. Tiana isn't at the manor, Alpha Dorian! She's no longer in our pack territory. The werewolf council just notified us that Ms. Tiana had submitted her application to leave the pack yesterday. The paperwork went into effect just moments ago."

After taking care of everything, Dorian embarked on his long, arduous journey to find me. He personally traveled far and wide, chasing down every lead without a moment's rest. Yet, as the days bled into weeks, he was forced to look reality in the face. He was well aware that before my departure, I had left behind every single gift he had ever given me back at the manor. I hadn't taken a single thing that had anything to do with him. I had left decisively; I hadn't left him a single word of farewell, nor a shred of lingering attachment. However, he couldn't bring himself to accept the fact that I hadn't left out of spite, and I genuinely wanted nothing to do with him ever again. …An entire year passed before Dorian received definitive news. He heard about a highly capable healer named Tiana, who was widely trusted by the pack members of the newly established Bloodmoon pack in the northern border. Dorian immediately set out, traveling across vast distances to the north. On th

Before long, Vanya was escorted to the study by the housekeepers. Completely oblivious to Dorian's ice-cold demeanor, her smile was bright as she asked, "Are you finally free, Dori? Are you taking me to the auction house today?" Even at this moment, her mind was entirely consumed by thoughts of jewelry, utterly unaware that all her schemes had been thoroughly exposed. Drinking in her hypocritical facade, Dorian snapped. Without a shred of hesitation, he raised his hand and slapped Vanya hard across the face. The sharp crack echoed through the study. Her head snapped to the side, and her cheek instantly swelled up as she stood there completely dumbstruck. Before she could even process what had happened, Dorian reached out and violently shoved the housekeeper, who stood beside them, right in front of Vanya.Vanya looked at the housekeeper in front of her before meeting Dorian's cold gaze. In a heartbeat, all color drained from her face. With a loud thud, she dropped to her knees.

Clutching the diary tightly, Dorian drowned in a sea of endless remorse. He began to replay the past in his mind over and over again, attempting to pinpoint when he had stopped caring about me. Slowly, the fog in his mind finally dissipated. Ever since Vanya had taken up residence in the manor, it was as if a veil had been pulled over his eyes, transforming him into an entirely different person. In the past, he had always taken my feelings into account and placed me above all else. Yet, after Vanya came into the picture, he had stopped distinguishing right from wrong, consistently siding with her, ignoring all my grievances, and freely taking my love for granted. He had never bothered to put himself in my shoes, nor did he care in the slightest if I was hurt or not. While Dorian was drowning in self-reproach, Lucas rushed back in to report some vital news. "Alpha Dorian, I contacted the staff at the werewolf council and found out that long before the mating ritual was held, Ms. Lo

Dorian had completely run out of patience with Vanya and did his best to avoid her at every turn. In the blink of an eye, another month had come and gone, but the search for me was still drawing a complete blank. One day, Lucas burst into the study with a panicked look on his face. He locked eyes with Dorian and fretted, "Alpha Dorian, Ms. Lovel—"Before he could finish speaking, Dorian, who had been zoning out behind his desk, instantly snapped his head up. His eyes lit up in a heartbeat, and he eagerly cut Lucas off. "Have you found her?"He sprang to his feet, tossing aside all his pride as an Alpha. "Tell her I don't hold anything that happened in the past against her. So long as she's willing to come back, I'll immediately hold our mating ritual again. I promise I'll never neglect her again!"Lucas took in his hopeful demeanor and had no choice but to lower his head. He said lowly, "That's not it, Alpha Dorian. There is still no news of Ms. Lovel. We've already tripled our se

Sitting by himself in the pitch-black room, Dorian felt a growing sense of unease and loneliness weighing heavily on his chest. Vanya noticed how he was sinking deeper into depression day by day. Refusing to give him any room to think of me, she was hell-bent on seizing this window of opportunity to claim the position by his side. Thus, she began to deliberately and frequently appear in his field of vision, hovering around him at all times. One day, Vanya walked into the study with a glass of water. Noticing how wiped out Dorian looked, she pretended to be concerned. "Tiana's way too cruel, Dori. I can't believe she left the pack without uttering a single word and completely went off the grid! Does she not care about your well-being? You've been working late into the night every day recently. Your body has already reached its limit."Dorian shot her an ice-cold look. Vanya hurriedly lowered her head, forcing a touch of grievance into her voice. "I'm just upset on your behalf. You w

The days bled into weeks, and the sentinel squads Dorian had deployed failed to find a single trace of my whereabouts. Dorian's temperament grew increasingly volatile; the usually steadfast Alpha was now constantly snapping at people. He started to return to the manor more frequently, and the moment he crossed the threshold, he would coldly inquire of the housekeepers if I had returned. Everyone in the manor lived in constant fear, terrified that a single mistake might trigger the ticking time bomb that Dorian had become. Early one morning, he sat at the dining table for breakfast. Looking at the empty seat across from him and the neatly placed glass of warm goat's milk, the anger he had bottled up for days exploded. He slammed his fist on the table, his face contorted in anger. "Do you have to serve goat's milk every day just because she likes it? Can't you make a bowl of oatmeal instead?"The housekeeper dared not talk back and hurriedly cleared the milk away, muttering softly u
