Chapter 24 Pulling Her into His Arms

A year later, dressed like Emlyn Young in a T-shirt, denim shorts, and a pair of sneakers, Eve Young ran out of the house like a young lady. "Brother Hunter, wait for me!"

Hunter Shield stood at the iron gate outside the garden. Seeing Eve running towards him, his eyes welled up. He waved at her and managed to speak in a cold voice, "Hurry up, otherwise I'll send you back."

Eve knew that Hunter was not talking to her, but to the Emlyn in his memory. She knew exactly what to do as she had learned it the hard way. She ran to Hunter in a jumpy and innocent manner and faked a naive smile. "Look how fast I am! I guess that means you won't send me back."

He stared at her for a few seconds, stunned, and became lost in thought.

The memory was coming back to him. That was exactly how Emlyn had run to him in the past, cheerful with an unrestrained smile. He had wiped that smile from her face with all the things he had done wrong. He had turned her into a completely different person.
