MasukSAINT’S POVI stood in front of the floor to ceiling window in my office, my eyes trained on the calmness of the city down there. Everyone seemed to have somewhere to be, living different lives that I would never know.“Why did I never realize how beautiful this view was?" I sighed. Why realize it now when it was on the verge of being taken away from me?My jaw clenched and I turned away just as Gerald walked in the room. “President, all board members are on seats. They are waiting for you to begin the meeting.”“What about what I told you to do?" “Everyone is on standby, waiting for your signal." I pulled my suit jacket off its hanger and pulled it on. “Let's go." I buried my hands in my pocket as I walked to the board room, pushing all my worries to the back. I was prepared for whatever they wanted to throw at meThe chattered-filled room fell into the silence as I pushed the door open and stepped in. I didn't look at anyone's face until I was seated in my assigned seat.I locked
LILIANA’S POVA smug smile that I couldn't seem to wipe off sat on my lips as I watched my friends suck up to me. Ah, this was the gathering that I had missed. In the club with my friends who knew that it was their good fortune to be associated with me and reminded themselves of this at every turn. “Your good fortune can simply not be taken for granted," Gianna gushed. “Not even up to a year since you married Mitch and you already elevated the second family so much.”“Hey." I waved her off. “I didn't do much. I was just lucky to marry someone as ambitious as I am. Since I met Mitch, I knew both of our lives wouldn't remain the same if we got together. It was my instinct.”"You made the right call, then." Kelly held my hand. “Now look, tomorrow he will be made the President of the Baxter group as well as the head of the clan. He would be the most respected man in the country." "Let's not get ahead of ourselves. The directors have not even decided yet.” I shook my head and used my han
SAINT’S POVI fixed my cufflinks as I stood in front of Leslie's- now cleared out- vanity's mirror. My jaw clenched when I grabbed my tie, knowing she would have hurried to help me even though she didn't know how to tie it.“President, are you there?”My head snapped to my phone as I remembered I was on a call with Gerald. I cleared my throat and moved closer to the device. "Yes, I got carried away with something. What did you say?”“I said the PR team is on standby. They are waiting for your instructions to proceed with the statement and countermeasures.”"There is no need for that.” I adjusted my tie until I was satisfied. "They should remain on standby and do nothing for now. They have been working overtime because of me lately.”"Public outrage is quite high right now and stocks are dropping. This is not time to ignore and let matters die down, President. We have to clear both you and Mrs Baxter’s name." His agitated voice rose through the speakers.“The pictures were taken from i
LILIANA’S POV“You really delivered more than I expected, Mr Vince.” I clicked glasses with him. "The whole nation is in shock right now. I bet they didn't see that coming.”“I should be the grateful one for reserving such a juicy exclusive for me," he grinned. “We got more clicks and reads than we've ever gotten since we established." “As soon as I stumbled on it, I knew you were the perfect man on the job. Continue to stock the fire and make use of word of mouth as well. Baxter Empire’s PR team is the best in the business and the news would be nowhere to be found once they get started.” I leaned in closer. “But they can't shut people's mouths, can they?" “I understand, Miss Webster," he nodded.“Good. May we have more seamless partnerships in future.” I downed my drink and stood up. "I have to leave now. Things have been very busy for me lately.”“Of course." He stood and bowed. “Have a nice night, ma'am." I left the restaurant and sent a quick message to Mitch letting him know I
LESLIE'S POVElara pushed away from the door and turned to me, her face drawn in a frown. “Have you forgotten that this is my house? The both of you barged in here without any prior notice and you think it is okay to nitpick about how I act?" I hated to admit it but she was right. "I'm sure she will be out soon after finding something to wear. I heard you enter her bedroom whenever you go to her house too.”"You think I want to be there at all?” She scoffed. "If not for that damn hierarchy in the society, you think I want to suck up to all those women and run errands for them? Don't fucking piss me off. I've been to Dalia’s house ten times and this is the first time she's here. Do you understand how I feel now?” “We will be out of your hair when she's out," I assured her.“Stop acting like a good person too." She looked away. “You're as terrible as they are, if not worse. At least they were born into money. You lord it over me simply because you married a rich man. It is nauseating
LESLIE’S POVI held mum's hand as we left the hospital. It was the first day of her therapy session and even though I was only allowed to stay with her briefly, my heart ached for what she had to go through.I blinked up at the sun and smiled. The weather was gradually getting cold so it was nice to finally see it so high up in the sky.“Mum." I pulled her closer. “Rather than go home now, why don't we take a walk? The weather is quite nice today." She hummed, preferring to stare at the designs of her dress rather than look at me.“Off we go then." I pulled her with me gently. We walked to a nearby market and I looked at her regularly to see if she was scared but she just looked around in awe. I searched the stalls before finding a book shop so I turned to her. “Mum, you loved journaling a lot, do you remember? You told me that it was the best escape out of the mind so you even bought a little one for me when I was ten." “Journal?" She asked.“Yes," I nodded and walked to the shop
