LOGINVIPER
I stumble into the Nameless soaked in blood—not mine, though. Alpha Tyler’s. A warrior guarding the gates eyes me, perhaps checking if I came with the Alpha’s head, and I roll my eyes. “You came back empty,” he sneers, holding a dagger to my throat. “So much for being the best assassin here. Hades will kill you anyway, why should I even spare you?” I don’t blink. “You’re quite good at holding grudges. You never forget the past, do you?” “My twin died because of you,” he growls in my face, putting more pressure on the dagger. It cuts my skin, and it stings. “You fucking killed her, and now I get to kill you.” “I didn’t kill your twin. It was a fair fight. She chose to challenge me.” “And you chose to slit her throat!” “She would have killed me first!” “What the fuck is going on here?!” The bastard pulls away immediately when he hears Hades’ voice. He lowers his head, and I suck in a breath, tracing the scar on my wrist as several thoughts push through my head. “Viper,” Hades sounds a bit surprised to see me. “You’re back?” I nod, still tracing the scar. “I—” “Tell me some good news,” He gives me that smile that always makes me speechless, and I gulp. He steps closer, his soulless eyes fixed on me. “C’mon, Viper. Tell me about how you killed the mighty Alpha of the Silverblood. I can smell his blood off you.” “I stabbed him.” “And?” “Poison didn’t work on him.” “But you still killed him, right?” I shake my head. Smack. My face twists to the side as Hades’ palm collides against my cheeks. It hurts so bad, blood splutters out of my mouth. But the pain isn’t what makes my eyes sting. It’s the fact that Hades slapped me. “And you had the guts to come back here?” He barks, grabbing my chin so I can look him in the eyes. “You fucking crawled back here even after you failed?” Tears sting my eyes, but I don’t let it fall. “I didn’t have anywhere else to go,” I say slowly. “This is my only home, Alpha Hades.” “And yet you don’t belong here!” “That’s because you’ve refused to acknowledge me!” “You think I’d acknowledge someone who still dwells in the past and refuses to let go? You think I’ll acknowledge you when you’re hellbent on getting revenge, even to the point of your own death?!” I freeze, trembling tremendously as a single tear slides down my cheeks. “It was a test.” Hades pushes me until I fall, hitting the ground with a loud thud. “And you fucking failed,” he snapped. “You’re not ready after all. To become one of us.” I crumble from inside out, crying ugly tears as Hades walks away. All I’ve ever wanted is a home. After my entire clan got wiped, I needed something similar to remain sane, but I don’t think I can ever fit in here. “Let’s get you out of here,” hearing Jake’s voice instantly calms me, and I stop crying as he sweeps me off my feet. I bury my face in his shirt, and he chuckles. “This is the first time I’m seeing you cry, you know?” “Then today is your lucky day.” “Lucky day? It’s a terrible day, Viper.” He tightens his hold on me, “because I don't like seeing you cry. I know this sounds odd, but seeing you like this makes it hard to breathe.” He kicks the door to my room open and places me on my bed. “But I’m still a little excited I get to see your vulnerable side,” he brushes my bloodstained cheeks, and I tense. “Jake…” “I know,” he laughs, pulling away quickly. “I know you’re still not ready.” “I’ll never be ready, Jake.” “I don’t believe that.” “Believe it!” I snap, “I’ll never love you. Never ever. I’m too shattered, too broken, to think that worthless emotion can save me.” Jake’s face falls. His smile falters, and he looks really hurt. “I know,” he says again, his voice barely above a whisper. “And this might sound stupid, but I’ll wait for you, Aurelia.” “Don’t fucking call me that.” “I don’t even know why you chose to be called Viper.” “Because that’s who I am now,” I say softly. “Aurelia was killed fourteen years ago. All that remains now is a ruthless and merciless assassin, Viper.” ~~~ The next day, I’m back at my usual training spot. Jake has been avoiding me for the whole day, and I don’t even bother to reach out to him. He needs his space, and I’ll give him that. But you know the one thing bugging my mind? Alpha Tyler. I can’t forget the way his blue eyes held me hostage, or the way his scent nearly drove me to the brink of insanity. I really need to meet him again. ‘I didn’t think you’d want to see him again,’ Kiera says proudly. ‘I see you’re smitten by our mate’s good looks.’ “I don’t care about good looks,” I bite back. “I want to see him again so I can reject him.” ‘You want to reject an Alpha?!’ “Do you think I care about his title?” “Yo! Viper!” Emily jugs toward me, smiling like she just got kissed by her lover. “It’s time for lunch. I knew you were planning to skip it, so I’m here to change your mind.” My stomach grumbles loudly and my cheeks flush. Emily shakes her head, then starts to drag me. “You shouldn’t starve yourself. How many times do I need to scold you?” I roll my eyes as we walk into the dining hall. Immediately, all eyes are on us. Emily sits down as the maids begin to serve, and I sit next to her. “So I heard killing Alpha Tyler was only a test,” someone laughs over his meal. “Our lady took it too seriously and missed the chance she’s been waiting for for years.” My chest tightens. “I’m sure she thought she could kill the Alpha. Proud bitch.” I tighten my fingers around my fork. “Or maybe her true reason for going was to seduce the Alpha with that face of hers,” a tall, broad man drops a cup of wine in front of me. He stares at me, grinning. “The Alpha must have refused because he’s seen lots of beauties, but I haven’t. I wouldn’t mind having you in my bed, Vip—” A bloodcurdling scream rips out of his throat as I drive my fork into his palm, twisting it so his blood decorates the dining table. “Maybe I’ll have your blood for wine instead.”~TYLER~“She’s being too secretive. Who gets pissed while talking about a crush?” Zara whines as she walks behind me. “I was just trying to be friendly, you know?”Ignoring her, I walk into my study and lean against my chair. “Shouldn’t you be planning the wedding with her right now?”“No.” She shakes her head. “I think I’m done for today. I’ll be back tomorrow.”“You don’t expect her to just open up immediately when it looked like you were trying to pry something out of her,” I say with a smile. “I know how protective you can get of me, so I’m sure you know what you did.”She rolls her eyes. “It’s just… this girl appeared from nowhere and is about to be your Luna.”“And she is my mate.”“I still don’t trust her.”“Then give yourself time.” I turn to check some files on recent contracts with other packs. “You have to leave now. I’ve got work to attend to.”She nods and makes her way outside. That sneaky asshole, Alaric, still hasn’t said anything about the treaty. He must think he’s t
~VIPER~“I’m back,” the supposed marriage planner, Zara, says as she returns to the guest area, her eyes on me. “Let’s get this wedding planning started!”She seems excited.Isn’t it odd to be more excited than the bride?“What are your favorite colors?” she asks as she comes to sit next to me. “We’re going to be buying flowers, some dresses, and oh… we need to check out the cake shop too and book something.”I rub my forehead, a little dizzy from everything she’s saying. “Are we doing all that today?”She nods, grinning. “And it’s going to be so much fun.”Zara rises to her feet, then pauses to glance at me. “If you need to change into something more presentable, I’ll wai—”“No, I don’t need to change,” I mutter slowly, standing up too.She eyes my joggers and tank top and just shrugs. As we make our way out of the pack house, I ask, “Did Alpha Tyler tell you when the wedding will hold?”“In a few days.”I swallow hard. In a few days, I’ll be married to my mate—this man I’m supposed
TYLERDave and I arrived back at the pack house by nightfall. He gives me a stiff smile. “About the witch—how will you smoke her out?”I smirk. “You’ll see.”As we walk further down the hallway, Dave suddenly halts at the sight of my mate—covered in a little mud and draped in a shawl. I still can’t help running my eyes over her exposed thighs. I clear my throat and meet her gaze. “Aurelia—”“I… I went for a run.”Dave is staring at the floor.Good for him.“It was so sudden, I didn’t prepare any clothes,” she continues, but she looks quite used to being seen this way. “I’ll be on my way then.” She offers a stiff smile and starts to walk away.I don’t know what’s going on in my head, but I grab her wrist, making her halt. “Wait. We need to… uh… discuss the wedding.”Shit.‘The wedding? That’s all you could come up with?!’ Kyle’s irritated voice rings in my head. ‘It’s clear you just want to spend time with her.’Not true. Not true at all.I shut Kyle out because he’s spouting nonsense.
VIPERIt was a close call.My heart is still heaving like I’m almost dying. I type back to Jake, pressing my back against the door. “What deadly mission?”“Something random,” his reply comes in immediately. “Any update about the treaty? Hades is on my neck.”“Nothing yet,” I type back. “Alpha Alaric isn’t signing the treaty because he wants something valuable in return. I think it’s going to take a while.”Jake sends an ‘okay’ sticker.I toss my phone on the bed and start peeling out of Alpha Tyler’s clothes. Heading to the bathroom to wash up, I spend nearly an hour standing there because of the numerous thoughts pushing through my head. I want blood. It’s been a while since I last killed someone.Or watched someone writhe in pain. It’s like a burning hunger deep inside me.‘Let’s teach Alaric a lesson,’ Kiera tells me. ‘He deserves to bleed for what he did earlier.’“No,” I say with a sigh. “He’s part of Hades’ plan. He needs to sign that treaty. If we kill him…”‘I know,’ she says
TYLERShe turns off the screen immediately, keeping the phone by her side like she’s hiding something. I only caught a single word—‘Jake’—but it seems like there’s more to that name than she’s letting on.“I like my privacy,” she says smoothly. And I frown.“Who is Jake?”Her eyes widen a bit, but she relaxes in seconds.“A really good friend of mine.”“Then why are you hiding the chat with this ‘good friend’ of yours?”She raises her chin. “Like I said, I love my privacy. Shall we continue shopping?”Kyle stirs in me. He wants answers, and I do too, but I don’t push further. I lead Aurelia onward, urging her to grab as many clothes as she likes because we won’t get to do this every day. Surprisingly, she only picks a few tops—which are mostly dark shades—and some pants.“No gowns at all?”She shrugs. “I’m not a fan.”I just nod and lead her to the shoe section. Her eyes brighten for the first time since we got here, and when I think she’s going to pick those high heels, she goes for
VIPERI think I just heard wrong.Someone should clean my ears with holy water or something, because what the hell did this bastard just say?I’m sitting uncomfortably on Alpha Tyler’s thigh, and every fiber of my being wants to dissect Alaric. I want to make him scream. Make him cry. Let’s see how smug he’ll look when I slowly carve and separate his flesh from his fucking body.Does he think I’m some commodity to be bargained for?Hell, he doesn’t know me. He should be grateful I’m undercover right here, but that doesn’t mean I won’t take him on a short trip to hell. And I know I’m not the only one pissed. There’s a murderous aura radiating off Alpha Tyler. His breaths come out harsh, his hold on my leg tightening like I’m about to be ripped from his grasp. Talk about the shitty mate bond thing. My heart is literally tingling against my will.“What did you just say, Alaric?” Alpha Tyler’s voice is deadly as he drops the Alpha title. “This woman here is my mate.” His voice is loud and
