Chapter 2

Autor: Amber Fleck
I did not manage to sleep that night. After packing up my luggage, I sat in the living room to book my train ticket.

Suddenly, I heard someone knocking on the door.

Puzzled, I walked over and saw a large bouquet of flowers being shoved into my face. “Samson, I’ll teach you how to make a manipulative witch happy.”

I was severely allergic to pollen.

When I saw the flowers, I instinctively wanted to shut the door, only for Susan to screech and fall backwards.

“Careful!” Samson rushed out of the bedroom and shoved me away before picking Susan up in his arms. He turned to me and started yelling, “Mindy, you’ve crossed the line!”

It was as if he could not see that I was having such a severe allergic reaction that I could not breathe.

When I found my allergy medicine, Samson had already rushed to the hospital with Susan.

Finally, the symptoms of my allergic reaction subsided, but my stomach started hurting.

Worried, I hailed a cab to go to the hospital for a checkup.

As he held the report, the doctor frowned and turned to me. “How could you take Benadryl when you’re pregnant? Don’t you know that pregnant women have to be careful when it comes to this medicine?”

I was stunned and thought that I was hearing things. “…What?”

The doctor pointed at my report. “You’ve been pregnant for a little over a month. Taking Benadryl once may not lead to your baby becoming deformed, but for safety’s sake, you should still get a checkup.”

Instinctively, I touched my belly.

There was a life here.

My phone vibrated. Samson had sent a message. [Mindy, if I hadn’t reacted quickly enough, Susan would have fallen down the stairs. You need to apologize to her.]

I did not reply and only said, “There’s no need for the checkup. Just abort it.”

“Are you sure?” the doctor asked.

I sucked in a deep breath. “Very.”

After the surgery, I shuffled out with a hand against the wall for support, only to run into Samson on one knee in the lobby, massaging Susan’s ankle.

Both of them were talking to each other and laughing. When they saw me, they stopped smiling together.

Susan used her uninjured leg to kick Samson. “I already said that I don’t need her to apologize. Look at her. She’s making herself look so weak.”

Samson frowned. “Mindy, do you always have to pretend to be the victim?”

I tightened my hold over the abortion report. “Do you think I was faking my allergy reaction?”

Then, Samson looked like he had remembered something, and the frown subsided a bit. “Susan didn’t know that you were allergic to pollen. She brought the flowers over out of the kindness of her heart. You don’t have to be so hostile toward her.”

I bypassed him. “It doesn’t matter anymore. We’re done.”

Their friends rushed over at this point.

“Susan, didn’t you go to help Samson calm that manipulative witch down? Why are you in the hospital?”

“Susan really worked hard to remain friends with Samson. She has never suffered so much before.”

“Let’s see how far things have gone this time. Has Miss Manipulator decided to run away from home?”

One of them snatched my phone. “I was right! She bought a ticket back to her hometown!”

“Samson, you’re going to have to start groveling to win her back.”

Susan pushed Samson away and stood up while trembling. “I should go. No matter what, your girlfriend is more important. Sorry, Miss Manipulator, don’t be mad at Samson anymore.

“If worse comes to worst, I won’t attend any gatherings if he’s around anymore. Cancel the ticket. If you don’t, they won’t let you cancel anymore, and you’ll lose money.”

Ginny, the person who had stolen my phone, laughed. “Susan, how could you say that you were a manipulator last time? How could you not know this? She wants Samson to buy a ticket to go to her hometown to coo at her.

“That’s the only way he can show his sincerity.”

She pushed at Samson. “Buy a ticket, Samson. Otherwise, you have to board the train illegally to make your girlfriend happy again!”

Samson glared at me with a red face. “Cancel the ticket, Mindy.”

With a stony expression, I took my phone back. “I told you. We’re done.”

Samson then whispered, “There are plenty of people here right now, and I understand that you want to preserve your dignity. Be good and cancel the ticket. We can talk at night when we’re back.”

I could not be bothered to even continue with the conversation and bypassed him.

From the moment he talked badly about me with Susan behind my back, there was no room for discussion between us.

After I was done dealing with Susan’s case, I went back to my hometown, and I told my parents about everything that went down. “Do you think I went overboard? I sent a person behind bars for a dog.”“A dog’s life is still a life,” my mother said angrily. “Your baby too.”I looked at my mother in shock as she teared up. “I’m sorry. I saw the medicine in your handbag.”She hugged me gently. “Were you scared of me worrying about you? Is that why you didn’t say anything?”I immediately started bawling. After resting for half a month at home, I decided to pick myself back up. Once I wrote my resume, I started sending it to various companies. While I was waiting for my interviews, I went to an all-female gym and registered for a few private classes. A weak body could also lead to a meek nature. That was why I decided to make myself more aggressive in every area. After breaking up with Samson, everything started becoming better. Half a month later, I successfully found a j

After I put the cup down, I took out two hundred dollars from my handbag and threw it at her feet. “Your laundry money.”Susan did not move. She was frozen solid. Even her clenched fists were shaking. In the past, whenever I saw someone angry, I would be scared. I still was, but I stood straight and mimicked the challenging tone other people had. “I suggest you pick that two hundred dollars up. “Don’t go thinking that just because you apologized, I won’t sue you. I won’t let you off so easily. Flora was worth twenty thousand dollars. Once you take these two hundred dollars, you still owe me 19,800 dollars.”Then, I refused to look at her any longer and went to leave. The glass on the door showed a reflection of her face. It was a mixture of shock, anger, and fear. Samson ran after me. “Mindy!” He gasped for breath, and the way he looked at me was quite unfamiliar as well. It was as if he could not accept how a meek person like me could turn out like this. “Mindy, Susa

When I returned to the city where Samson was, three days had passed. I asked to meet him in the cafe beside the train station. He arrived sooner than the agreed-upon time, and I could see that he had cleaned himself up carefully. He had shaved his beard and combed his hair. Even the clothes he wore were my favorite set, but he could not hide the fatigue oozing out of his body. Samson did not seem to have had a good time over the past three days. When he saw me, he immediately got up to rush over to me, and he brought out a bouquet of brilliant champagne roses from behind his back. With tears in his eyes, he whispered sincerely, “Don’t worry, Mindy, I’ve removed all the stamens and pistils. You won’t get an allergic reaction. “I’ve figured out what really happened with Flora, and I was wrong to blame you. Please forgive me and give me another chance. I’ll give you whatever you want as compensation.”He instinctively held my hand. “I also saw your abortion report. Is that

(1st POV)My train reached the station. I walked out of the station with my suitcase in tow, and my parents immediately came up to me. My father took my backpack and suitcase from me while my mother started fanning me with a fan and handed me the iced fruit tea I loved the most. “You must be tired from your trip. Let’s get you back to rest.”They did not ask me any questions on our way home. It was as if I had just gone out on a trip. When we arrived home, I did not have an appetite and did not want to eat. My mother did not force me to eat and gently shut the door for me. “When you’re hungry, tell me. I’ll warm up the food for you.”I blinked my tears back and threw myself on the soft mattress. My five-year relationship with Samson ended, just like that. I took a long time to calm down before getting up to put my clothes into the wardrobe. But the moment I opened the wardrobe, a white veil fell out. I was stunned, and I remembered that I had prepared this because I

When he picked up the report, Samson’s hands trembled. The name on it was very clearly Mindy’s, and the date of the abortion was on the same day Susan had brought flowers. “How could this be?” He hurriedly looked for Mindy’s number so that he could get to the bottom of things. However, no matter how many times he called her, all he heard was the mechanical voice telling him that his call could not get through. Mindy had blacklisted him. Samson then went to WhatsApp. Susan was pinned at the top, and underneath were all the group chats they formed with their other friends. He had to scroll down for quite a while before he found his chat with Mindy. Upon opening it, he found that the most recent chat was Mindy talking about how Susan and her friends were making her uncomfortable. But his reply was always the same. [Aren’t you overthinking things?][You’re too sensitive.][They’re just joking with you.]Only by going through it all anew did he realize that things wer

The sky was clear the next day, and I successfully got a ticket back to my hometown. Before I left, I went to the vet to pick up Flora, my dog. Some time ago, one of its paws was hurt. After it healed, Susan came to my place. Samson had said that Susan was allergic to dog fur, and we were to only bring Flora back after she was done being a guest. Flora had been staying at the vet’s until now. Right after I went inside, Clara, the receptionist, asked in puzzlement, “Wasn’t Flora already picked up this morning?”My mind went blank. “Who took it? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”Clara quickly retrieved the security footage. “It was a girl. She said that she was a friend of Flora’s dad, and she even showed me her photo with him.”I stared at the screen. Flora had been taken away by the very person who claimed to be allergic to dog fur. I did not have time to think and rushed to Samson’s house. Susan was right there, and they were sitting very close to each other. “Where did y
