Chapter 5

MICHIGAN POV

After so long, the appointed time finally came. It's nine months at last, and soon Clara will go into labor.

Despite the fact that she's heavily pregnant, Clara doesn't seize the opportunity to trouble me.

With her condition, Damien became more protective of Clara, shielding her like a fence from any eye, including me.

He had to stop me from attending to her, hiring a maid to watch over Clara instead.

According to him, my presence will bring bad luck to his child that's about to come into the world.

I felt hurt at that statement but pleased that I didn't have to do anything for that devilish sister of mine. I felt somehow free, but not too free.

Damien didn't stop harassing me in the house. Whenever I want to touch some things that belong to Clara, which she left around, Damien will spark at me, like I possess some kind of evil in me, and push me aside.

I had to take it in since that's what I've been facing.

But this bad luck he pushed was the same person who helped Clara to the hospital when she went into labor.

The maid Damien hired for Clara, went out of the house without informing anyone. I overheard my sister crying in the bedroom, calling out for help.

That made me know she was in labor.

I went to check and saw her twisting in bed, begging for help.

I wanted to leave her alone to avoid getting into trouble, but Clara called out to me for help, begging me to save her.

"The pain is too much sis. Help me!" She cried.

Heaven knows that I didn't want to help her after all she did to me, but the child... I couldn't allow the innocent soul to face the punishment.

With no choice, I grabbed my kid sister out of bed, making our way down the stairs.

The maid finally arrived, joining me in taking Clara to the hospital, where she gave birth to a beautiful boy.

I was told by the doctor when I heard the baby's scream. But I was stopped from going in to see Clara when Damien showed up.

He pushed me back and rushed into the room to see Clara. Even the maid was allowed inside while I remained outside.

Waiting for them, Damien suddenly came out of the room and grabbed me to a corner. He slammed my back against the wall, grabbing me by the jaw roughly.

"What have I done?" I muffled through his grip, unable to understand why he was acting this way.

"You tried to kill my son huh? When Clara called you for help, you left her!"

"What?" My eyes grew large.

"She told me everything, and my wife doesn't lie. You are lucky that my baby is fine," He said, pushing me aside and walking away.

After everything, Clara still had the guts to stir up more hatred for me in Damien's heart.

"Waw," I chuckled at this, unable to hold back the feelings of sadness developing in my heart.

"It's not new to me. It's now a part of my life, " I laughed, walking out from the corner and leaving the hospital.

Staying won't bring me any joy.

After spending a few days at the hospital, Clara came home with her son and with Damien accompanying her.

The cries of the little one filled my heart with joy, as I recalled the wish I had back then.

It finally came true, but it's complicated. It is just not how I pictured it.

My father in law soon arrived on hearing the news. He has been away on a business trip for some months.

I wasn't surprised to see how happy he reacted to learn that my sister gave birth to his grandson. It's what he has wanted for long. To have a grandchild.

"You have done well Damien. You have made me proud today," Father in law said to Damien in the living room.

Clara was in her room attending to her baby, while I came over to serve both father and son a drink.

"Take this away, we don't want it, " Damien said rudely to me.

I hummed and carried the drinks away from their presence.

Not fully away, I heard Mr Flores laughing with Damien. That got me hiding in the corner to hear them.

"I'm impressed with you my boy. You didn't hesitate to act smart like your father. I told you that Michigan was born to be barren. Her womb is nothing but a poison room for your children," He said, mocking me.

I tightened my grip on the tray, trying to hold back my tears.

"Indeed you were right father. I should have listened to you when you advised me about marrying her. She's meant to be childless, but not me, " Damien bragged, laughing with his father.

"You need to see how everyone congratulated me on learning the good news. I had to come down quickly to see my grandson." He laughed more.

"That boy looks just like you. He has your eyes as well," Mr Flores pointed out to Damien.

I heard them laugh with joy, celebrating the arrival of the newborn.

Where I stood, trying to suppress my aching heart, Clara's maid came by and I called her attention.

"Please serve them this, " I said to her.

She gladly obeyed, taking the drink back to Damien and his father. I watched how both father and son, drank this same drink they rejected from me, with excitement.

That broke me more.

"Son, you've made your old man very happy. Now I know I can die in peace having seen my grandson. I am proud of you," He showed his happiness in Damien.

My father in law promised to make Damien the next president of his empire very soon, planning to will one of his lands to the newborn.

"And your wife, Clara. I'll make sure she has whatever she wants. She is indeed a woman, unlike some people."

I couldn't stand it anymore.

My eyes welled with tears, as I walked away in pain.
