The gun at my back reminded me where I was, even if I pretended to be calm. One of Alejandro's men had just searched me for weapons and already called ahead. I was clean. They said I could go in.

The hallway I walked through was wide, with high ceilings and glass walls that let the sun pour in.

There were strange sculptures—twisted metal, abstract figures, and tall wooden masks.

The house was modern, clean, and cold.

But there was something else. Alejandro was clearly a lover of art, just like Luca.

They led me to a large open room. Black floors. White furniture. Everything looked expensive. Then he walked in.

Alejandro.

He looked middle-aged, like Luca, though maybe younger. He had that same dangerous calm. That same quiet command. Maybe it was an Italian Mafia thing.

His black shirt was tucked into his trousers, sleeves rolled just above his elbows. His accent, thick. His voice, deep.

"What brings you here, doll?" he asked, calmly.

I made to speak but then he interrupted.

“Doll, is it? That's what Luca used to call Alexa. I’m sure that's what he calls you too, right?”

I ignored him but then, he kept talking. "You know the last DOLL left him with the wings he gave her. But I did him a favor, you know. Punished the woman and killed her. And now he sends you? Why?"

"He didn’t send me. I came on my own." I finally got to say.

He laughed a little. "Hmm... What did you think would happen, huh? Coming here without telling him? This is brave, Ms. Santina… but also stupid."

Of course he knows my name.

"What do you want from Luca? You already killed Alexa. Isn’t that enough?"

"Oh, so you do know about Alexa?" His eyes lit up.

"Yeah. I know you killed her. And I know you sent that photo."

"And yet you came here... alone."

He said something harsh in Italian. A few of his men laughed.

"You know you'll make a good entertainment for my men. But first, I personally would like to know what you have that makes you think you can come here and make a bargain."

I tried to walk up to him, acting like I wasn't scared. But the men stopped me.

"You've broken Luca," I said. "He's run out of ideas of how to deal with you. Alex, the boy he treats like a son, almost died because of you. So I came. Out of love for Luca, to know what you want to leave him alone."

"Love for Luca?" His men laughed again.

"Yes. Something you obviously lack."

He paused. His eyes darkened.

"Love... something I lack? Did your Luca ever tell you what happened between us?"

"No. And I’m not interested."

"You should be. Give her a chair."

A chair was brought. They made me sit.

“How about I tell you a story?”

“Do I really have to listen?”

"Luca, Alexa, and I grew up in a small village near the city," Alejandro began. "We used to sneak into the city, admiring the cars and luxury and all the good things we lacked.

“Our parents didn't notice how far off we had gone. We would go into the city and no one would notice.”

"Until one day, a certain mafia lord noticed Luca and I and started using us for his business. He trusted Luca and I but he trusted me more.

“He didn't use Alexa, he felt that as a girl, she'll be too slow and could cause trouble.

“This mafia lord we worked for taught us everything we knew. Guns, business, loyalty, discipline.

“Brutal discipline I must add and how to punish those we deemed deserve it.

“But then he somehow felt that Luca and I couldn't work together. So you know what our tough brutal mafia did?”

He came closer. Standing over with his hands in his pocket.

“He did one of the kindest things Luca and I never expected,” he continued. “He gave Luca and I our own businesses and asked us to work separately because he didn't want there to be conflict between us.

“Only problem was, he sent Luca to another of his territories and wanted me in his main territory."

"Are you enjoying my story, doll?”

I didn't know why he asked that but something scared me when he did. Like he's about to go into the part where things fell apart.

"Are you enjoying the story, doll?" He asked again, this time no smiles.

"Yes." I hesitated.

"Good." Then he smiled again.

"After a while, everything seemed to be going well until our dear boss died. You know what he did again? He shared the rest of everything he had equally between Luca and I.

“Luca and I both maintained our lanes. We stayed in our territory until Alexa... She was my cousin, you know... And I loved her like a sister.

“I didn't mind that she was with Luca but she wanted to have everything I owned for herself and Luca.

“She along with Luca orchestrated a plan to kill me. Both of them, the two people I trusted the most hurt me deeper than anyone did.

“Luca. Especially Alexa, I gave her everything I could even when Luca already gave them to her, I added to it and yet it wasn't enough for her.

“They didn't just take everything from me... They tried to kill me. And they said it was for the best.

“They were probably right with that one.” He laughed.

“Well... Doll... They failed and year after year, I found myself in a new territory and established myself again in a new environment and became my own formidable.”

The pride in his eyes.

“No one comes close,” he continued again. “I didn't even intend to find Luca... I just wanted to move on but Alexa... She betrayed Luca too and honestly I think I did Luca a favour.

“You ask me what I want from Luca.

“I want nothing. I want nothing from him. I'm going to let you go and I'm not going to attack Luca anymore.

“He wants his shipment, I'll hand them all over. Let Luca know that I'm capable of mercy because I know the one person who caused all this is Alexa.

“But should Luca come trying to fight me again... I swear he won't live. I'll make sure of that. You, him and everyone he cares about and I won't even blink.”

I didn't know whether to stand and run because the seriousness in his face I could clearly see but I didn't know whether to believe it.

"Then what's the point of all this?" I managed to ask.

“I wanted to draw his attention, that's all. I wanted him to try and save Alexa because you see Alexa said she ran away from him but I didn't believe her.

“I knew how precious she was to Luca but I just needed to see and as I predicted, Luca came. Thinking he could rescue her.

“Now, I'm tired of you. Go. Deliver my message to Luca, tell him to go back to his territory and that I, Alejandro Changretta, have shown him mercy.

“But I'm pretty sure Luca would be watching his back nonetheless. And that… little doll… gives me satisfaction.”

Luca's POVShe walked in like she hadn’t disappeared for hours. Still breathing.I stood up the second she stepped inside. “Where the hell have you been?”Her lips parted, but nothing came out at first. She hesitated. Then, “I went to see Alejandro.”Everything inside me stopped.“What?” My voice dropped low.“I went to him,” she repeated, “to ask what he wanted from you.”I laughed. Dry. Cold.“You went to him?” I stepped closer. “And how exactly did you walk out of there with your throat still attached to your neck?”“He let me go.”“He let you go?” I spat.“He let you go?” I repeated. “Please don't tell me you think I’m that stupid, Maria?”I didn’t wait for her to answer. I grabbed her. She gasped.“Luca, stop…”But I didn’t stop. My

Luca's POVI woke up, in the middle of the night. The room was dark except for the dim glow of the streetlight seeping through the curtains. Maria was asleep beside me, her breathing soft and steady. But I couldn’t sleep. My head was a mess. What the hell was I going to do about Alejandro? He had outplayed me. Badly. Alex had barely made it back alive. Half of my men were down. And yet, I wasn’t surprised.I knew Alejandro wouldn’t be easy to break. I just didn’t expect the gap between us to feel this wide.I sat up, running a hand through my hair. Different plans ran through my head. What if we attacked from the outside the country? Maybe set up a trap in one of his foreign safehouses? Or find one of his people and use him as bait? I don't even know Alejandro enough to execute any of this. None of them gave me the kind of assurance I wanted.I needed something better. Something Alejandro wouldn't even expect from me.I stood from the bed quietly and walked to the window. The ni

Maria's POVThe explosion from the grenades broke the silence. Then the gunshots followed. We were close to Alejandro's house, moving fast under the shadows when it all started. His men were already waiting for us. We should’ve known.Bullets started flying everywhere.Alex told me to stay low. I did. But even that didn’t save us.One of our men got shot in the chest. He dropped. Another tried to drag him, but a second shot took him too.It was madness.Chaos.The quiet plan we made back at the safe house was gone in seconds.I tried to follow Alex’s every move. I had the gun he gave me. I stayed close, just like he told me. But Alejandro’s men came from all sides. They weren’t just defending. They were ready for war."Fall back!" Alex yelled. "Now!"We ran. Through the back streets, through tunnels. I fired two shots but didn’t stop to check if they hit anyone. We had to move. Alex was limping, blood running down his leg. I didn’t even know when he got shot, but I grabbed him and he

Maria's POVThe fire in front of me was warm, but I still felt a little chill inside me.I sat in front of the fireplace, holding a glass of whisky. I watched the flames move, but all I could see was the car from earlier. The one that exploded behind us. That could have been me. One second slower, one wrong move… and I would’ve been gone.I took a sip. The drink burned a little. I didn’t even like whisky, but it helped tonight. I just needed something.I wasn’t crying today. Like I used to. Not anymore. Today, I was proud of myself.I ran. I acted. I got Alex and me out. I didn’t freeze. I didn’t fall apart. And Luca… he saw that… and he looked at me with pride in his eyes.I’m in this now. I told myself again. Not just a guest. Not just someone Luca De Rossi was helping. I am with Luca De Rossi. And when we’re done with Alejandro, I’ll make him find the one who messed up my apartment. I’ll make sure of it.I heard the door open behind me.Luca.He walked in slowly. Luca’s POVMaria was quiet that morning. Too quiet. She stood near the window, arms folded, looking out like the sky might have an answer she hadn't found yet. I could still see the grief in her eyes. Faint, but it hadn’t gone away. She turned when I walked in."You’re going to London."I didn’t answer right away. I just grabbed the files from the table and zipped up the bag. Alex was downstairs already, checking the vehicles. We were ready to go."Take care of yourself while I’m gone," I said, keeping my tone light. But Maria stepped forward. "I want to go with you."I paused. She was serious. Her eyes told me she wasn’t making a request. Not really."Maria... it’s not a trip. It’s business. Dangerous business.""I know. And I don’t care. I need to get out of here. I can’t sit in this house and keep thinking about that place... that apartment. It’s like it’s haunting me."I looked at her for a long second. She wasn’t shaking like she used to. There was pain, yes. But something else h

Luca’s POVI stepped into the living room and froze.Maria was curled up on the couch like a broken thing. Her shoulders hunched. Her head bowed low. Her eyes met mine for a second—red and hollow, like she's been crying all day, leaving traces of tears to dry.She didn’t speak. She didn’t need to.I walked over quietly, and she looked up again, forcing the words out like they burned in her throat.“They destroyed everything. Everything I owned in that apartment.”Her voice cracked on the word everything. She inhaled slowly, trying to stay composed. I could see her jaw tighten. She wasn’t trying to get pity—she was trying to keep herself from falling apart.“Whoever got into my apartment destroyed everything, Mr De Rossi. That apartment was empty when I got it. From the mattress to every other thing in it, I bought it with the money I worked for. Every single item.”Her voice got thinner.“And they destroyed it all. All of it.”I sat beside her, my throat dry.She turned away, her eyes

  • I'm not your possession, Mr Mafia. Or am I?   16: Safe

Maria’s POVI woke up to an empty bed.Luca was gone.Only a gentle scent of him stayed on the pillow beside me—sweaty, masculine and yet clean. I pulled the sheets up over my bare chest, stretching slowly, the ache between my thighs a reminder of last night. What started with a question ended with him—inside me, around me, everywhere. And though I’d gotten some of the answers I was looking for, there were still parts of Luca I knew he could still tell me.I got up and put on a robe, and walked into the living room where I found him at the window, already dressed in a black suit, tie in hand.“Morning,” I said, voice still husky from sleep. He turned, his eyes drinking me in from head to toe. “Morning, doll.”I sat on the edge of the couch, tucking my legs beneath me. He came to me, kissed my head and asked what plans I had for today.I knew what I was about to say would upset him a little so I hesitated. He could see my hesitation so he asked, “what is it?”“I’d like to go to my apa

Luca's POVHer question hit me like a bullet."Why do you have a camera in my room?"Everything in me stilled. My breath, my hands, my thoughts. For a second, I stared into her eyes, trying to figure out what she already knew, what she had seen. But then she looked at me like she wasn’t afraid—like she still wanted me—like she still wanted me to know I could still have her. Even if the walls were starting to crack. So I didn’t say anything. Not yet.Instead, I held her closer and kissed her again. No way I'm missing this chance.I kissed her slowly, deeply, like I had all the time in the world. My hand slid down the curve of her waist, pulling her closer until her body melted into mine again. Her legs wrapped around me with ease, like her body already knew the rhythm. The tips of her wet inside I could already feel on the tip of my hard member.I moved with time now—not rushed, but deliberate. She gasped as I let myself slide inside her, her hands holding my shoulders like she didn’t
