Chapter 1 Prologue

The storm darkened the clouds as the lightning increased in the sky. A deafening crack of thunder was heard and the pack members shivered involuntarily.

The storm during the childbirth of a werewolf always signified a bad omen on most occasions but The Blood Moon Pack has always been spared.

But today… It was different.

That was why almost half of the pack members gathered just outside the pack ward wondering when the pack doctor would announce the news.

The news of an heir to the pack.

His long-awaited heir!

The double doors were pushed open immediately and a wrinkly-faced woman stepped out. Her left eye was covered with an eye patch, she was known as the pack hospital messenger.

“Alpha Hendrix.” She bowed politely.

The Alpha acknowledged her then stared at her expectantly.

“Yeah?”

“Your presence has been requested by the doctor and lady maid,” she replied.

He nodded and followed her briskly to the ward where his mate was.

He saw her sprawled on the bed, her legs spread apart as she hung limply on the bed. She was looking very weak and his heart gave out to her.

“Is she alright?” he asked, masking his concern. An Alpha wasn’t supposed to show weakness, his ancestors had taught him.

The pack doctor gave him a shrug. “Alpha. She’s been like this for hours now, the pup won’t come out. We’re thinking of cutting her open.”

He shook his head furiously. “No!”

His mate’s lady maid gave him a weird look. “Alpha, this may be the only way for the pup to survive.”

Alpha Hendrix stared at the little lady hiding by the wall almost like a wallflower. He knew she had her lady’s best interest at heart but he knew she was dedicated to the throne as well that was why she wanted to save the pup.

“I care about the pup but I also care about my mate’s life,” he said.

The pack doctor nodded. “I’ll see what I can do. Let me try again, just stay close.”

He walked towards his mate and kissed her cheeks. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled when she saw him. He saw the pain in her deep brown eyes and he gave her a strong smile.

“You can do this, my love,” he whispered.

She shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I can’t.”

He chuckled softly. “Yes, you can. Now push that pup out before I yank him out myself!”

Laughing hysterically and crying, his mate pushed and screamed until the cry of a baby was heard. The lady maid and doctor chuckled as they carried the baby.

“Congratulations, Alpha Hendrix. You’ve been blessed with a bouncing baby girl from the moon goddess!” the pack doctor announced.

Alpha Hendrix chuckled as he carried his little princess. “My lovely Ellie.”

The baby cooed and he felt his heart glow as she looked like his mate.

“She’s so beautiful,” his mate giggled, wiping away stray tears.

“Indeed,” he nodded.

Then another lightning crack in the sky followed by heavy thunderclaps. His mate yelled in the pain and the doctor rushed forward.

“It appears there’s another pup!” he exclaimed in fear.

His mate howled again and he glanced at them. They were all at loss.

“Do something!” he screamed at them.

The pack doctor hurried towards his mate and he watched as they tried to pull out the second pup.

Why was there a second pup? He wondered.

“I can’t push anymore!” his mate screamed.

Alpha Hendrix shook his head, he refused to believe that she would give up.

“You have to push!” he screamed.

“We have to cut her open,” the doctor announced.

“No. We could lose her!” he declined.

“We’re losing her still and she’s still with the pup inside her,” the doctor stated.

Before his eyes, while he cradled his first baby, Alpha Hendrix watched as they cut his mate open and pulled out the second pup.

The pup was a spitting image of the first pup he was carrying!

“Bad omen!” the wrinkly lady exclaimed.

“They’re identical twins!” the lady maid gasped.

There was another round of thunderclaps and then the storm died down just as the light died out in his mate’s eyes.
