Juliette tried to remember her last meeting with Madam Garret. She’d seemed kind enough. Strict, sure, but she had also willingly offered to invest in Juliette’s small advertisement company. The offer made her think about the small number of employees who worked under her, still waiting for their well-earned salaries.

Juliette sighed, clutching the edge of her skirt too tightly.

“Are you feeling alright, sweetheart?” Grandma Maple asked, putting a gentle hand on her shoulder.

Juliette looked up, trying to hide the storm of emotions inside her. “Of course. Just nervous.”
