ROSE'S POV

I force a smile as I knock on my mentor’s office door. I’ve been feeling restless all day—ever since I woke up craving my step-uncle. It’s wrong. So wrong. I felt sick with guilt just standing in front of my students this morning, trying to lecture as if everything was normal.

I knock again, then turn the doorknob and step in. "Hi, Professor."

"Miss Rose," Professor Sharma beams. "How nice to see you."

I spot Mr. Dawson still in the room. He offers a polite nod. "Was just leaving." Then he slips out, leaving us alone.

Her office is just the sanctuary I needed—walls painted a calming sea blue, incense rising to the heavens, and books stacked on every surface. Philosophy texts, mostly. It smells like clarity and quiet thought. I exhale slowly and take a seat across from her.

"What's wrong?" Sharma's eyes softens. She knows me too well.

"I'm fine." I manage to say.

She doesn’t push, just watches with that still patience of hers. I notice a few more gray strands in her hair. S

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    022 – MINE!

RYAN'S POVDeep breaths. I clench my fists, fighting the feeling to drag her back into the living room, pin her against the wall and teach her a little lesson for her bratty behavior—right in front of her family and that sorry excuse of a fiancé. I feel my chest tighten. I ignore it. I've ignored worse."I'll ensure he doesn't bother Rose." I say to the house and step out the door. I don't stop to see the judgemental look on everyone's face as I follow behind Rose and Desmond. If I want to win this war, I have to keep my cool around Rose. But it's impossible. Everytime I see her, my head burns with the fury of hell. The way her hips swag as she walks is a damn temptation, and after our agreement last night, I shouldn't be feeling this way. But I took Alex out because he wasn't good enough for her. And I'll be damned if I let someone like Desmond have her now. No one's good enough for her—me inclusive. And even if I were, I can't still have her.Desmond leans against his car, hands

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    021 – BETWEEN MY THIGHS AND THE TRUTH.

ROSE'S POV For the first time in my entire life, I wake up wet—and not from a dream I can brush off. There's slick between my thighs, a raw ache in my core that I can't ignore. I slide my fingers down and—God—its me. It's real. It's him. Last night, I was fantasizing about Ryan and I came this close to touching myself.A loud knock on my door jerks me like I've been caught red-handed."Rose, it's Micah. Can you open the door?"I glance between my thighs, heart pounding at the mess. Panic takes hold of me. I bolt to the bathroom. Cold water—fast. I can’t face anyone like this, especially Ryan. "I'm in the shower!" I call out, the water pouring on me."Desmond's downstairs." Micah shouts through the door. "He came bearing gifts.""Gifts?" I turn off the shower. "What does he want?" "He wants to take his fiancee on a date." From his mocking tone, I can already picture him cringing his nose."Who else is up?" I ask, scrubbing my body in a hurry."The whole family.""Including Ryan?" I'

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    020 – ENGAGED TO A LIE.

ROSE'S POV I'm sitting in the rumpled mess of my engagement gown—hair undone, heels in hand, untouched champagne by my side. The stars illuminate my tired form on the veranda. The event ended hours ago. The house is silent. Some guests returned to their homes. Others passed out in the grand hall. This engagement isn’t what I want—not to Alex, not to Desmond. Not with my heart yearning for the impossible… Ryan. I ran once. I thought I’d escaped. But mom has a way of always bringing me back here. I said yes to Desmond, to save the people I love. To keep the house from crumbling. To stop my mother from calling me an embarrassment. The cameras, Desmond's hands holding mine, the spotlight, It was so suffocating. Familiar footsteps approach. No need to turn, I recognize those footsteps anywhere. Ryan. "Why did you let him do it? You could have walked away?" He says, voice rough with the sharpness of alcohol. He’s been drinking. Just like the night we met. I was vulnera

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    019 - THE WRONG GROOM.

RYAN'S POV"Someone call the bishop.""Wow. Who's this handsome man?" Some people don't know who Desmond is.He confidentially strides forward. "Mrs Helen." Helen smiles, rising to embrace him."Mr Corey." Corey shakes his hands stiffly. Then Desmond turns to me with a cold stare. "Mr. Ryan," he says, smirking. "Didn’t trust you to deliver my pre-wedding gift. Thought I’d come do it myself."I grit my teeth too tightly, my jaw hurts. I say nothing. But if looks could kill, Desmond would probably be dead. How did he get that envelope? Did someone close to me betray me? What's his end game?"Mind if I sit here?" he asks."This row’s for family.""Fine," he says, still smiling. "I’ll take the next one."I watch him sit. Monique whispers something to Rose, and she looks over—eyes narrowing as she notices Desmond. Suspicion crosses her features.I watch the clock slowly tick past the scheduled time for the ceremony. Ten minutes. Fifteen. Twenty. Has Alexander really made his choice? I had

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    018–THE ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY.

RYAN'S POVIt’s been five days since the kiss in the church. Since I watched my Rose run away from me. And still, I can't stop thinking about the taste of her lips, the fear in her eyes, the way she tactically avoided me afterward. Five days of burying myself in business, trying to ignore the truth—but I noticed the signs. The engagement is still happening.I adjust the red bow tie around my neck and glance at the drawer where I locked Desmond’s envelope nights ago. "It’s safe there," I mutter under my breath. "I’ll never open it."I leave my room and move into the hallway. The mansion is luxuriously decorated. Downstairs, the chatters, laughter and clinking of glases overwhelm the piano melody. It's sad really—there won't be an engagement ceremony today. "Good job." I say, tapping the handyman on his back as he scrambles to finish stepup.Leaning against the railings, I watch the guests file in below. The hall glows in beautiful colors, the scent of roses from every corner of the ro

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    017–SECRETS BEFORE THE WEDDING.

RYAN'S POVI twirl the glass between my fingers, watching the bartender finish setting the table. The club is oddly quiet for a Friday night. I glance at my watch. Still early. I need to be out of here before the crowd rolls in. Any other night, any other place—I might have stayed. But this club is not really my kind of crowd. Across from me, Alexander sits tensed in his gray tux, he's probably never been to a club before. He looks too clean, like someone who's never gotten his hands dirty before. I hate it."There are a thousand places in this city," he says with disgust, "and you pick a club for us to meet and discuss?"I adjust the cuff of the biker's jacket I have on and simply smile. "Looking at what you have on, you wanted us to discuss sabotaging a wedding in your office?"His eyes grow dark as he holds my gaze. "Do you even know why I called Ryan?""I was hoping you'd tell me."He scoffs, jaw tightening. "You think I want this?" He shakes his head, then slams his fist on the

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    016-HE LOVED HER FIRST.

RYAN'S POVAs we step out of my car and walk towards toward the house, Rose remains silent—just like during the ride from the church. Her fingers trembles slightly. I can still taste her sweet hesitation on my lips. She stops before we reach the porch, casually brushing her fingers through her chestnut colored hair. But there's nothing casual about the way she closes her eyes and inhale slowly or the way she cleans her lips as if cleaning off my taste. Her smile, too smooth and rehearsed curves her lips as she shoves the door open and steps in. Like kissing her step-uncle never happened. Or maybe it didn't affect her.The laughter and chatter we heard from outside fades into hushed whispers as we enter the living room."Micah!" Rose calls out too brightly, leaping in excitement into the arms of one of the men on the couch. She throws her arms around his neck in a passionate hug. But her laugh sounds a little forced, I wonder if he hears it too.Micah looks like her, only older—same

  • In Bed With My Step-uncle    015 - THE SIN THAT FEELS HOLY.

ROSE'S POVI'm kissing my step-uncle???I push against his chest, stumbling back, stunned and breathless. Ryan blinks, his fingers combing through sunburned blonde hair, just as disoriented. "I'm so confused. Oh my gosh, I'm sober—you're taking advantage of me.""I didn't." He snaps, eyes narrowing. "You kissed me.""So it's all my fault?" I rise from the swing, backing away to create some space between us as panic rises within me."I'm not blaming you—just stating the facts." He sighs, voice tight with frustration."It's wrong, okay? This whole thing is just wrong.""Why?" He steps closer, slowly unbuttoning his jacket. He shrugs it off, revealing tuant muscles beneath his thin shirt, flexing with each breath."Can we not do this right now?" I avert my gaze, trying to focus on anything but the way his body draws me in like a magnetic sin."If we keep waiting, there will never be a good time." He tosses the jacket onto the swing, and steps forward, blocking my air supply. "Why not now
